1. it might be a little heavy since you are using the ar lower and having to build around that.
2. the left/right switch for the eject port is something that a user would only need to change once, so you dont need to switch it back and forth all the time. i think this should be a separate piece that you attach when you buy the weapon. set it once and forget about it for the rest of the time you own it.
You need to manufacture this and sell it, you will make soooooo much money. It looks very innovative, just improve upon the trigger pull and you're golden.
I'm a bit burned out by bullpups, so I wasn't really impressed until I saw the ejection switching. That seems so simple a concept that I'm really surprised no one else has done it.
Since you're building this off a AR lower, how do you handle magazine release? I see some buttons in the trigger group and there looks like some space in the stock for some sort of op. lever or rod, but couldn't figure out the connection. I still think you need a backup mag. release for something like this.
does the charging handle reciprocate with the bolt every time or is it nonreciprocal like a standard ar15 chrging handle? I would really like to see a nonreciprocating handle so I don't have to worry about it smacking into my hand if I grip it too high.
Charging handle: I used AR charging handle dimensions, although completely different concept. It looks great on CAD but in reality, it was made too small. Again, I didn't bother to replace it due to the time. In the future, I would prefer to redesign it completely.
Weight: Well I didn't weight it. It is a prototype gun, I didn't bother to optimize it for weight due to the obvious reason. In the future, I envision it to be similar to SCAR or ACR
Caliber: 223, although theoretically any AR caliber should be possible
AR Lower receiver: Yes, it is in this rifle. The trigger is standard AR trigger group. Due to the bullpup design, the operation trigger feel sucks. This is not a surprise though. Right now, the mag release function was kept but the bolt release is not. I run out of time to include that in, but it is possible. As you can see, bolt release is done by racking charging handle.
Operation of the check piece: The way I demoed in the video is not the operation method I had in mind. There are excessive friction exist in the rifle right now, and most importantly, after operating machines (turning knobs of mill) everyday for two month, my hands were really weak. The correct operation I had in mind is that one hand in firing position and the switch can be done with other hand alone. This is possible but I can't tell for sure for now.
Changing the ejection side is something soldiers would do a lot in an urban environment, having to go around left or right hand corners. So the swap needs to be a simpler single handed operation. Could the lever that unlocks the cheek piece also pivot to move the cheek piece? Your ejection ports look small, a military buyer would look at them and say "That's gonna jam". Can't see any sling attachment points. Okay I know, a prototype only.
Aerostar, I commend your design. Very well done. And your open dialogue to share your experience. I look forward to seeing what else you come up with. I hope you find a manufacturer. It is a very simple and elegant design.
Unfortunately, Ar15 forums will not accept most email accounts. However, your work looks very interesting and, as I'm designing my own firearm, I'd like to know what CAD software you used and how I would manufacture the pieces.
@aerostar4566630 Thank you, that's very helpful. Down here, in my corner of the world, that stuff's damn hard to come by. I guess I'll have to keep searching for it or take a trip to Europe or the USA. I'm also wondering, did you manufacture your barrel yourself or buy it?
I'm curious to know, did you build this? Or is the video acquired from another source? If you did build it I'd like to know how you got the shaped plastic pieces and what you machined the metal with.
i love that ambi feature. very very intelligent design. i hope it isnt overly complicated and easily broken. although im sure youve taken that into account already. also, how the cheekpiece sort of turns into a deflector as well.
You could make a fortune here in the US with that design. You could produce a kit to be sold that the buyer could use his own lower receiver. That get you around most issue with the BATFE. You could also sell your design to an AR weapons manufacturer and cash in. Very nice. Genius.
Very nice design. I admit I'm more than a little interested. I hope to see this design continue to improve and develop, and eventually, with hope, one day end up in my hands! :D
so you use a custom bolt group, could we get a cut away 3d video of it operating, in addition to seeing how the ar lower is mated with the barrel/upper assembly as well as a exploded view of the entire rifle?i know this is alot to ask, but it would be awesome, and it would be a good way to get some outside view on your design, i would love to get a kit like this(sadly i ain't got the money you would deserve for such a project./sadface) the alternating quickswap for shell ejection is really cool.
Congratulations, I came up with a similar idea a few years ago (but could never work out how to make it function). Have since gone the easy route and designed a bullpup using a Berretta ARX160 bolt with a SCAR style carrier. Liking your ejection port cover...
Have subscribed to see how the project pans out... Good luck!
I like the design. It looks good. I really want to see an action video of it. I read you were not happy with the trigger? How are you going to improve on it?
You better start producing these or else it won't be fair for you to be the only one to have one. You should take it to the range and make a video. I'm VERY interested in this neat thing. Make sure you patent it!
amazing job

Keep going and patent it....
1. Just in case you decide to take a break from working on it
2. Sell the design to a company
3. Just in case FnH give you a cease and desist order claiming that your design "stock looks like the F2000/Fs2000

@bigghoss762 It is nonreciprocal like AR for now. In the future, it will be changed though. Still nonreciprocal, but more easy to handle.

The CAD I used was not very popular, Solidedge. Most of the work was done by three axial vertical mill and standard lathe.
