Obviously Al-Ghazali was considered to be a renewer of the religion, isnt that a big sin in Islam and in worst case lead to be a disbeliever? Or does he just mean that Al-Ghazali was trying to " bring back the primal holeness and mutuality". Very confusing when he doesnt speak clear english.

This interview is the first time I've heard of Dr. Winter, but I realized just now that I may have already read something by him. It was in a book entitled "Fundamentalism and the Betrayal of Tradition". The title gives the idea of tradition as a moderating force - an idea that I find quite British, and pleasant.
