@ROBERTtheGUITARIST You're right, it is. Its original title was "Music for a Vacant Amusement Park," but that was kind of ust a placeholder haha. Thanks for reminding me tor rename this video!
damn you know what would be prbly too good for everyones ears... is if andy played guitar and enya sang songs to his playing.... that would be too good...
This song is so amazing :) I wish i could totally hear this in a theme park :) so amazing and it doesn't look all that hard but hey music is music :) Andy Is AMAZING :)
Art of Motion - the song or the album? haha. The song is so amazing now. I just hate the way he plays it live now, he changes up the rhythm in some places and it just sounds weird :c I have to say I love the way he played it in the Piermont show the most (which you can see in this playlist), all the little fills are incredible.
The Album. It's one of the best I've heard ever, period. Not only the best of Mckee, but the best in acoustic instrumental. Easily right up there with Hedges' Ariel Boundaries. Out of the 12 songs on the record only 2 of them don't captivate me entirely, Nocturne and Drifting. Still good songs, just not on the same level as the others.
It's funny how drifting is his most popular song but it's really nowehre near his best. It's more cool to watch than it is to listen to.
And thanks for the compliment! I've just been buying candy rat tabs and trying to teach myself how to play fingerstyle. It's hard, but it's a lot of fun and it's really satisfying when I get something accomplished!
Cool. I've been playing for over 20 years now. I was primarily an electric player but was introduced to this and have been pursuing this style for around 3 years now. I have For My Father down and and Dreamcatcher. I'm about ready to tackle Africa. I'm also considering the purchase of a Ciluzzi package. Seems that guy doesn't get much credit, but I think his style is incredible.
Hey 121jigawatts! Did you use the tabs? If you have them , I was wondering if you could sent them to me...I'm really bent on learning these kind of songs hahahaha... It's cool that you switched styles, but do you still play electric? I'm just wondering because it's interesting that you switched.
Seriously, I'd be stealing from Andy if I did that. Since I'm a musician myself, I would hope people wouldn't do that with my material, although I'm sure they would!
Honestly, he sells almost everysong he's done so far (except his new stuff) on his website for 2 bucks ea. They are transcribed by the man himself and of very good quality. You buy the mp3 for a buck and your out $3. He's not making money at this at all! You don't even have to buy the mp3, just listen to youtube ;)
I did switch styles, but the electric playing has really prepared me for some of this believe it or not. I really still like a lot of electric shredders (Satriani, Vai, Lynch, DeMartini, Wilton & DeGarmo, Malmsteen, Van Halen, Bettencourt, Rhodes, Lee, Wylde, Dimebag, Hetfield....and on and on!)
But yeah, this music is so beautiful I switched styles. It's an absolute blast to play and you can chill at a coffee shop without a bunch of pedals and amps and just play over a cup of good coffee.
Andy has a thread on his forum with all the tunings for all his songs. It probably doesn't have his new songs yet, but they'll be there eventually. I imagine Andy will make tabs for this somewhere down the road as well.
Cheers mate I post in his forum and he hasnt put the tuning up yet. I will PM him on FB and see if he gets back to me, if I have any luck mate I will let you know.
I see! I almost decided to split it up further, to have videos with only talking and videos with only playing, but I figured no one would ever see the talking parts that way haha.
this is different for him, and it couldn't make me happier. This man NEVER ceases to surprise me with his ability to compose and bring life to any idea he wants. No man could take me on a walk through a rusty, dark and run-down amusement park beside Mr. Mckee himself.
i really liked this song when i saw him play it at the san francisco show do you remember wat song he played before this? just for figuring out the tuning
In my profile is a playlist of the entire show - every song, in order (I numbered them in the title for a reason!)
His guitar was in standard baritone before this song. He last played Ebon Coast.
Anyway, Andy has all of his tunings written in a sticky thread in his forum. It probably doesn't have this song yet, because he's been busy touring, but if you're curious about any other songs' tunings you should check it out.
Haha I agree, I don't care for carnival music... In the beginning I was really disappointed, but I was amazed with what he did later in the song. It really did get much better.
Rael0905 - It's a nice quaility you got there. Keep it up :)
This song starts to grow on me. Even though the first part of the song really didn't seem to interesting, the tapping section is really floating its awesomeness. Much in the same style as the tapping section of Ebon Coast.
Definitely! I do see resemblance with Ebon Coast (what an amazing song). I didn't like the cheesy carnival music intro either, but he really worked with it. I love it around 4:10 as well.
And yeah, my camera's decent :) I was right up in front (it was a small venue anyway) so I got a great view and Andy gave me permission to film the whole show.
No I'm not at his show sadly. I wish I was there though. I live in Singapore. So I can only see videos of Andy's playing live through kind people like you uploading them. :) Maybe I'll fly to Europe or America just to catch him live one day.
Thanks mate for posting this (or rather these). Lots of nice things here: new song from Andy, one of the new guitars in action + you have a very good quality audio here too!
No problem man, it was a great show. It was nice of Andy to let me tape the whole thing too (I had asked him just as he was coming on stage). I'm pleased with the audio as well!
I'd love to see more guitar videos from you, by the way.
Yes and I actually think I heard him once say somewhere that this is his (and for example Don Ross´s) general policy on these things, I guess as long as nobody attempts to make any financial gain on any recording...
Thanks, I have been thinking of doing that but I´d like to first find out how to get a slightly better sound on a video...
Yeah i definately shall, he's such a talented musician. Im trying to learn some of his songs but I find it so hard to do harmonics on acoustics, it is great how he includes them in his songs so flawlessly.
The harmonics are easy to get used to in his songs. I've mastered the slap harmonics&harmonics in Drifting and Ebon Coast. Just keep practicing. Some are difficult to grasp though. :/
amazingly beautiful... only who still is a child in his heart can understand this sin-phony

You know the worst part of doing an outstanding album? Trying to top it.
What I like about Mckee the most is how he tells stories without saying a word.
Having said that, is anyone dealing with the difficulty of dealing with the fact that nothing he has done since Art of Motion is quite as good? o_O??
