  • AAaaahh that brings back memories. The good ol' Elan, reliable as can be. We had a 72 and in its life, the family must have clocked up a million miles on 'er. Miss that little sled.

  • Wow people are dumb you dont need to let it warm up I have a 1972 john deere and it sits maybe 3 secs before its full throttle never given me trouble oh did I tell every one it has 5800 miles on it and 145 psi in each cyl. NEVER BEEN REBUILT so dont talk bout leting it warm up. I gurente you guys get in your cars every morning with out leting them warm up and 4 strokes arent built for tha.t 2 strokes, it doesnt really hurt them

  • fuck you people!!!! i have never blown an engine by revving it cold. and what little he did doesn't even come close. you people are assholes... nice work 0280r

  • Poor ol Elan motor, lol. Let it warm up first. :~)

  • @CosmikDebrisFZ For you and all those who don't know, this is the warm up procedure for an Elan.

  • even if the engine is cold, you still dont rev the piss out of ot becasue there is no lube directly on the cam shaft and your just asking to break something

  • 2 Strokes don't have a camshaft.

  • @xxXSlashNSmashXxx It doesn't have a camshaft genius.

  • yes stupid

  • So stupid ... When will rednecks understand that engines are designed to run at a specific temperature (over 90°C) and reving it while cold will just KILL it

  • well my "redneck" grandfather who has run sleds for 40 years and is a licensed mechanic seems to agree with me. an air cooled motor run best the colder it is outside cooling the engine faster. with the entire motor cold the only thing that would be different could possibly be that the rings may not be expanded completely to make a perfect seal. but i will take your advice as i see you are an expert. if that will just kill it then may i ask y it is still running after 2 1/2 years?

  • Of course you can't kill such an engine in 2 min. These are really strong. You obviously don't understand that at such a temperature, adjustments between moving parts are no good. Your engine is going to wear much more quickly than at operating temperature. Sure the engine will run better if the air outside is colder. But just DONT rev it when it is cold !! It is one of the basis in engine mechanics

  • i agree but fan cooled motors are great as well because on cold days you got the fan running to keep the block cool while you got the air to keep it cool as well, but i agree with you because i dont really like liquid cooled sleds, over heat too much

  • @0280r NEVER rev up a cold engine. becaus the oil in the engine is not the right tempereture. and it will not move fast ennaugh in the engine, thats why you dont rev up a cold engine. And it is like that in a aircooled engine. You dont kill it in like five minutes... but the engine is NOT designed for full trottle when its cold......

  • @solbraa well um its a two stroke the oil burns

  • @ENTRIS1 I know, but it is plain bearing in the crankshaft and the oil that is there MUST be hot enough to glide as fast as the engine turns, otherwise it is mettal against metal, and then struggling out the warehouse, then loosen crankshaft and the engine bust....

    Sorry for bad English...

  • @solbraa there is no "oil in the engine", its a two stroke. I own one of these machines and after lying up for a long time its the only way to keep them running without cutting out 100 times.

  • @0280r That true,

my snowmobile mech have said same thing.

I have one sled that never been for 30+ years, revitup little quick for warm up and will seal the pistons rings because pistons rings likely to seized and mid high rpm heat the ring and help to loosen them up. Don't do in full throttle it hard for cylinder because it you rev it really high, cyl will warp in little due to heating so quick, so just do in about half throttle.

Well have fun with your new elan!!

  • @0280r Now you stink like two-stroke. Just like me!

  • @0280r

    no warm it up.

I'm factory trained by omc, mac and nissan marine.

Employed by all three at one time or another at the corp level and you sir are going to blow that up

  • @simusfr what a stupid comment...

  • The more you open the throttle, the more oil it gets. It is a 2 Stroke.

  • @simusfr last time i checked it was a SNOWmobile and snow is below 0 soo...

  • @simusfr ya, a little warm up is probably best but it is an air cooled two stroker, not a liquid cooled V-8 four

  • It has snow all over it, how is this the first start?

  • because where it sat and where i got it goin were 2 different places

  • i was going to say the same thing replace the crank seals rebuild the carb clean the points and you will be golden.

  • stop stop ur DOENT rev it when its cold like that but whatever we all do it now and again so might as well have fun but i just hate to see it die

  • nicely done revving it like krazy on a cold engine.

no wonder skidoo engines blow up all the time, operator's fault.

  • well considering it wouldnt stay running unless it was pinned revving it seemed like a reasonable idea

  • give it gas but don't squeeze and let go several times like in this clip. give it a 10%-20% throttle steady

  • Hello - Im in alberta canada and looking for parts for my 1970 elan - does anyone know where to get some

Would anyone know why I have to rev the elan so much before she starts to move

  • Your belt must be worn.

  • belt slipping?

  • @esthepens your belt is finished pr your cluch needs to be rebuilt

  • fun sleds

  • i have a 74 294 ss elan runs great

ps if thats the first start in 20+ years why is their freash snow on it?

  • because the video was in my grandfathers garage but we drug it out of a barn with a tractor at my great grandmothers

  • they are so light you can move them around fairly easy without starting them...did you see the smoke come off that pile

  • wow i got a 77 elan 350 ss givin to me and its kicking my ass i rebuilt the carb new fuel lines new plugs it sat for about 5 years ran good in its time but if any one can help me me leave me a coment i think it might be the crank seals i dont no some one plzzzzz help

  • those are junk engines they have junk cranks put a 250 single in it well save you alot of hassle

  • have u ever owned one?? i dont think u have the engines cannot be killed

  • Doesnt suprise me.Still I like it alot!

  • YAR!!! you cant kill one of them sleds..have had a few in my day.

  • very good engine!!

  • haha asome sled i have a 74 elan single just love how after it got smokie the dog came out of the wood work haha

  • nuclear bomb goes off = only thing lift .... twinkeys cockroaches and elans will remain un harmed !

  • The 335 rotax Olympics were indestructable too.

  • since it haz sat so long

    u'll need crank seals

    n a carb kit

after that it shouLd run like new if the point'z are good

  • cleaned the carb and put a different coil on it so far

  • Nice vintage sled...She looks like fun to ride.

  • Nice Elan. Hood, chassi and track look in good shape. There a nice little machine.
