  • wow this is an incredible video :D its cool you got to watch the whole thing and get a video of it all happening. Also, those tugboats are ridiculously small lol. Ive seen hundreds of fishing boats here that are bigger then them. The Portland pilot boat is the same size as the great lakes tugboats too. Do you know how much horsepower do they have? The Andrew McAllister of Portland has 6000, the most horse power of all the McAllister tugboats! (theres 80)! The others are 4000.

  • @SouthPortlandKK Great Lakes Towing owns these tugs. They have a fleet of about 50 tugs. Most of the tugs in their fleet are pretty old, dating from the 1930s. These tugs in the video look small, but they are actually very big! Only 2 feet of the tugs hull stays above the water, another 12 feet stays under to help the tug maintain a strong center of gravity. Both of the tugs 78 feet long, 20 feet long. The Idaho can pull 36,000 tons. The Wyoming can pull 55,000 tons.

  • @GreatLakesShips they don't look that big in the video :o

  • @SouthPortlandKK They are smaller than most tugs on the Great Lakes today, but they are much bigger than they look in the video!

  • farewell great ship :'(
