Yes im a little psychic, but the point is FAIRYLAND should never break up! There are few productions indeed with such capacity of musical fervor, and it all comes from the genius mind of one very inspirational Mr Phil GIORDANA. This band has quite obviously copied Rhapsody. The song structure, string arrangement, sweep solos. The singer lets them down. He's obviously trying to sound like Fabio Lione but without the balls and he can't sing in key as well as Fabio. I just found out that this band is French, which explains why they don't have balls.

If the band is worth anything then sells of albums will not kill them. They will just have to make sure that they have a great live show and get some good merchandise that people want to buy.

sorry to say it, but gone are the days when a band could spend some time in the studio and get an album, then sit around and just collect there money. This indestry is becoming what most musicians get into it to avoid.

Yes, but you might forget an important point: The band is here to release albums. The electronic distribution is not viable enough (with piracy and stuff) to make up for a Cd. Also, a Cd is an object, which many fans love to have (I know I do). Lives and merch are all very good, but it doesn't make the band live. Not even a little. Sells going down means the death of the band, on more or less long terms.

Playing live COSTS a LOT of money, except if you are a big headliner. Who do you suppose pays for that financial cost? The band, through its label's tour support policy. Playing in small venues doesn't get that much money, even sometimes not at all. yet we have to record, press and distribute our albums, and pay for our gigs' organization. Only the label can help, and the label will do so only if the sales are interesting for them.

When all is said and done, for a band to survive and offer good quality albums and live-shows, it needs the support of a label, support which won't be lasting long if the CD sells fail, because all in all, a label doesn't give a crap if you filled a big venue and sold t-shirts. That's not the way their accounting works.

Oh, and just to clear things up: When we toured with kamelot in 2007 for 10 gigs across Europe, people usually enjoyed the show a lot, and yet we ended up with a (very) negative account at the end of the tour. Concert cost money, and reducing musicians to "gone are the days when a band could spend some time in the studio and get an album, then sit around and just collect there money. This indestry is becoming what most musicians get into it to avoid." is a bit degrading for all active musicians.

You should explain this to people on Rhapsody`s forum, Phil. Most of them still believe that the main source of income for metal bands is by touring. I told them many times that lots of bands don`t make money by touring, but often loose money instead. People there have the habit to take their illusions for reality.

It scares me to see how Fairyland is so underground, while countless bands in America (Lady Gaga, I mean, wtf?) are getting so much attention, while most of the time, they don't even write their own songs! They just get a piece of paper shoved into their hands, go ''iz tis mah lyrics? alrite'' and there, another hit. Because it's easy to listen to and offers no challenge.

That is so true, same over here, there are some excellent australian underground bands like the berzerker or the amenta, but sometimes bands don't like the mainstream publicity that most bands thrive on, its good to know that people still listen to bands' music and go to their gigs and stuff and know that those bands aren't gonna make it big or anything, cause they don't want that kind of attention

I'm just jumping in here because as this is a new band to me i'm finding it enjoyable, so i have some time to write as I listen to it.

The thing about downloading is that youll find that it might be impossible to stop. This I feel is true, although I don't think that it lends to the downfall of a band.

These bands today have to put more effort into getting and keeping there fans. This is done through tours and merchandise sales. As long as people love there music they will continue to

Well, theft is theft. No one can do anything about it. The only thing I can hope is that if the offender likes the album, he will try to support it by buying it, or a t-shirt, or whatever.

Everyone be aware that low sells due to piracy can actually bring a band down. The labels won't option the next album, or will do it with a low budget, resulting in a crappy production.

Now I can understand a struggling guy downloading and waiting for the right time to buy the stuff. But please contribute!

In the case of a small band such as fairyland in a niche music genre i see 2 scenarii :

- I can download the album/listen to it on deezer/youtube and then judge if i think it's worth the money. Best case i buy it, one sale for you.

- I can't download/listen for free, I won't know whether the music is good or not. I won't buy in any case.

For bands with small media presence (no radio/music tvs playing clips) at least the web offers a huge audience and therefore potential customers.

I would really like to see sales numbers and numbers of albums produced in metal and power metal for the last 10 years. Pretty sure that a music that's so popular with geeks is doing better with internet than without.

Rhapsody, Fairyland, Sonata Arctica...and the oter bands composes music with symphonic styles (not too amateur ones ofcourse:D...quality ones)...they're the real musicians of this age with their fantastic sound:D

Yeah they're all good, but a lot of the songs lack direction. Sonata arctica a bit less so but they don't create the same epic atmosphere. Dragonland are pretty cool too but lack direction again. The best songs, in my opinion, you can tell where the song's going but it doesn't sound bland or repetitive. Tricky balance...
