As I said: in situations of war, I concede that murder must occur. I also explained that war can be self-defense, whereas capital punishment cannot. Personally, I would let someone else kill me before I killed him. I'd defend myself, sure, but I would not kill. Like you said, I'm a pacifist.

Life-long imprisonment protects the public just as well as capital punishment. And I accept the fact that war is sometimes necessary. If an army is attacking you, one has little choice but to fight back.
But capital punishment is not a form of self-defense. The criminal has been detained and no longer poses a threat to society, as long as he remains in prison. Killing him then would not be self-defense.

Your reasoning has a two major flaws. 1) The baby's death is no more physically painful than the murders. It's quick, as far as deaths go. BUT - the murder goes through infinitely more emotional pain than the baby.
2) The baby didn't "simply want" anything. It had no knowledge of what "the light of day" was. How can it want something it doesn't know exists?

You can use multiple methods to more effectively prevent pregnancy (the pill+condom, condom+foam, the pill+foam, etc.) Also 46% of women who abort weren't using any form. 3.) Condoms are not that expensive. Family planning (the pill) and condoms are also free for people w/o insurance in many states.

The effectiveness of something doesn't justify it. Killing every single poor person will very effectively end poverty, but it doesn't make it right.
And I said I would defend myself to an extent. But my desire to be just overcomes my desire to live. I will not judge anyone else who kills another out of self-defense; I understand survival instincts. But my morals will not allow me to do so.

You're right that capital punishment can be a deterrent for many crimes. But that's just the government using fear as a weapon, which I don't think is right, no matter how effective.
As I said: in situations of war, I concede that murder must occur. I also explained that war can be self-defense, whereas capital punishment cannot. Personally, I would let someone else kill me before I killed him. I'd defend myself, sure, but I would not kill. Like you said, I'm a pacifist.

Life-long imprisonment protects the public just as well as capital punishment. And I accept the fact that war is sometimes necessary. If an army is attacking you, one has little choice but to fight back.
But capital punishment is not a form of self-defense. The criminal has been detained and no longer poses a threat to society, as long as he remains in prison. Killing him then would not be self-defense.

Yes, he did do it because of moral obligation. "Racist" and "morally obligated" are not mutually exclusive terms. Because of the racism that Hitler had been taught from a very young age, he felt it was his duty to mass murder millions. I believe the circumstances into which I was born made me the bratty, albeit innocent, teenager that I am today. Had I been raised in the same environment in which HitIer, bin Laden, or Hussein were raised, I'd probably have committed the exact same atrocities. Nothing but circumstances and luck have made me a "good" person. I cannot kill someone simply because I am more lucky than him or her.

1) I'm saying that compared to capital punishment, abortion is the lesser evil. They are both horrible practices and I will NEVER support either. I just think that people oftentimes let the fact that the criminal is a "bad" person justify his murder. That is wrong.
2) I live by one moral law: As a human being, I have absolutely no right to take the life of another. We are all equal, and by me killing (even via the government) just one person, I am placing my own life superior to that life.

Your reasoning has a two major flaws. 1) The baby's death is no more physically painful than the murders. It's quick, as far as deaths go. BUT - the murder goes through infinitely more emotional pain than the baby.
2) The baby didn't "simply want" anything. It had no knowledge of what "the light of day" was. How can it want something it doesn't know exists?
I'm not justifying abortion in the slightest; I just think that people should see that capital punishment is much worse.

A baby has no knowledge of what is about to happen, eliminating its terror. I consider myself pro-life in every way. I disagree with abortion, the war, and capital punishment. But - I would abort a baby before I even pointed a gun at a criminal. In that case, the criminal would be the only one suffering.

It's not sick! As far as murder goes, abortion is quick and not long and drawn out. One second the baby is there, the next he/she is not. Again, I do not support abortion. I believe it is murder and making one's own life superior to that of the baby. But capital punishment is a long, slow death. The death itself isn't slow, but years are spent with the guilty realizing that they will be murdered. I don't understand how any Christian can support either abortion or the death penalty.

You can't compare drunk driving to legalization of abortion. I already said that I don't support late term abortion. At six weeks it isn't a fetus, it is an embryo. This world is overpopulated already, what do you think it would be like without all those abortions? Giving birth to a child is very demanding for a woman's body, and adoption isn't always possible. Why would the woman's right to choose what she wants to do with HER body end when she gets pregnant? The embryo can't grow outside the womb, can it?

1.) Most pro-life people would make exceptions for rape victims. Aside from that only about 1% of abortions are by rape victims, pregnancy from rape is rare and only 15% choose to abort anyway. 2.) You can use multiple methods to more effectively prevent pregnancy (the pill+condom, condom+foam, the pill+foam, etc.) Also 46% of women who abort weren't using any form. 3.) Condoms are not that expensive. Family planning (the pill) and condoms are also free for people w/o insurance in many states.

So what if one your family members was in a coma and you knew they would be totally normal and aware in 3-4 months. Would it still be ok to pull the plug because they don't know its going to happen? Or you can pull the plug because youll have to take care of him for awhile after hes out of his coma, and it will be to much work. It doesn't matter if you are male or female. Murder is wrong. The baby's body is not the mother's body. A fetus is a seperate entity and this can be proven through blood tests. In many helthy pregnancies, the child has a blood type different from the mother.
To the mother, this blood type would be a deadly poison in her system. So, the old argument that "It's MY body" is bullshit. How can you think it's okay to kill a person who is capable of surviving outside the womb?

the fact is, the more laws we have surrounding abortion, the easier it'll be to get rid of it. You can't just say "get rid of all abortion," because the pro-choice people aren't going to go for it. Laws like the one you mentioned, as well as things like abolishing partial-birth abortions, are good first steps.

Does anyone realize that in the state of Illinios Obama was instrumential in trying to get a law passed to continue on an abortion that was not completed. I admit confronting unwanted pregnancies is a battle on many levels (family, society, educational) but condoms are not the answer...only a mere last resort.

Might as well be sticking your head in the sand and assuming people can easily turn sexual desires off and on. Yes, people should learn how to control those desires before a committed relationship (marriage is good safe boundary), but its much easier said than done.

People in this country are doing their best to be coherent and reasonable individuals. They aren't doing a great job. Abortion SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN. Not because it is wrong, but because the government should regulate who can reproduce and under what conditions so that our population and social structure can stay intact. We wouldn't need women to work if there was more money per male worker... But that is insulting to women who deserve to work if they wish too.

Almost every family I know has someone who cannot conceive. If 1 in 4 pre born babies are aborted - there are 1 in 4 women who would love to have a child that cannot. Love is the answer.
