  • so... what happens to the contact that the dr put in at the end???

  • I had this procedure in 1994. Wish I hadn't. I guess Lasik has it's own problems too. I was really way over on the minus side and they shouldn't have given me the surgery, plus I was only 21.

  • @darin90 why do you wish that you didnt do it

  • @Infectedbulat

Because it made my vision worse than before. It cost me 4000.00 in 1994. I had to fly to Canada,it was not approved here in US yet. It made my eyes uneven, one eye is still very near-sighted, and the other eye almost needed a cornea transplant but was salvaged by scrapping the scar off that the laser induced. Yes, corneas can scar. My vision is now degraded forever.

  • @darin90 maybe you eyes were not completely developed and do you think that technology now days is better because i really need this

  • @Infectedbulat

No my eyes were normal except for extreme near-nearsightedness and astigmatism. I do think today's lasers are better because of the learning curve during the 1990's, which my eyes were a part of.

  • @darin90 i want to get thiss so i could be a air force pilot

PS: thatt really sucks man, like whats wrong with your vision right now

  • @Infectedbulat

My night vision is trashed, but I have learned to work around it when I drive at night. I see all kinds of muck in the center of my vision. Bright lights at night can be debilitating.

I developed excessive healing response from the laser due to my young age at the time and my extreme nearsightedness. If you are above a -6,please don't do this surgery. I was an worse than -8 if you took my astigmatism into account. Please do your research.

  • @darin90 what do you mean by -6 my vision is 175/150

  • @Infectedbulat Your rx is much less than a -6. We routinely perform PRK on Secret Service agents as they are required to have PRK if they have vision worse than 20/200.

  • @vanceman17 what age should i do it

  • @Infectedbulat Usually people are ready to have PRK between the age of 20-24, providing that you prescription has been steady over the previous two years. Some surgeons will perform PRK on patients between the age of 18-20, which is fine as long as the patient knows they have an increased chance of an enhancement (additional procedure down the road). The human eye is usually done "growing" by the age of 20-24. Other factors can affect vision such as diabetes.

  • @Infectedbulat

-6 reflects the degree of diopters I am nearsighted. Anything over -3 diopters is considered moderate to severely nearsighted from hat I have been told. Cylinders are units that measure astigmatism in people. Anything higher than 1-2 cylinders is considered high. Mine was 3. This surgery actually made my astigmatism worse by making the surface irregular. This was much worse in my left eye.

  • @darin90 Obviously you had a surgeon that was not experienced with PRK. Haze is a possiblility with any PRK procedure. Mitomycin can be used to prevent hazing. Not to mention sunglasses are to be worn any time outside for 6 months to block UV exposure that can promote haze. We have done -10 and -12 with NO HAZE. Yes, do your research and make sure your surgeon is experienced aand stays on top of all surgical techniques. Haze can be removed by an experienced surgeon. I suggest you seek on out.

  • @darin90 Not the procedure's fault. Sounds like you weren't a good candidate but the surgeon choose to do surgery on you. I see that happen still today in the U.S. People should stop researching the procedure, but put that effort into researching the Dr. Having worked with over 20 different ophthalmologists, I can tell you that there is a HUGE difference in knowlegde and skill.

  • Didn't that hurt

  • @raelle111 There is no pain during the PRK procedure. Afterwards when the numbimg drops wear off, people usually have moderate discomfort for 24-48 hours after PRK.

  • They remove the epithelium (protective layer of the cornea). This allows the excimer laser to reshape the cornea.

  • wat is it that they remove??

  • Did it hurt?

  • the ONLY bad thing for me about any eye surgery..you HAVE to watch...haha

  • @musicfreakk1 i thought that way also before i had my PRK surgery. To tell u the truth in my opinion it was great experience. Because i was afraid of the pain or whatsoever during the surgery but it didnt hurt at all..just a bit tension as i was very nervous. Yeah..im glad i did it.

  • @klapetart what did it feel like after your surgery? i have contacts and sometimes my eyes are so irritated that it feels like my eyes are all gritty on the inside when i close them. also tired of dealing with them so any info would be great :)

  • @shadow0imposter We have so many people having surgery due to contact lens issues. Abuse of contact lens is very unhealthy. People actually go blind from contact lens abuse and infections!

  • @vanceman17 i also heard that the flap they cut for the surgery never really heals. ive seen videos of that but not sure what to think about it.

  • @shadow0imposter The flap never heals to 100%. But after 6 months of healing, the force it would take to hit the eye to dislodge the flap would cause damage whether you had LASIK or not. Considering the number of people who have gone blind due to contact lenses, I'm glad I had LASIK 14 years ago!

  • do this hurt?

  • The 3rd day after PRK Laser Eye Surgery is supposed to be the most painful, yet as I awoke this morning---moderate soreness & pain...perhaps everyone has a different pain threshold; Sensitivity to light has certainly increased today. And objects seem to be hyper-layered: Somewhat overlapping & distorted.

  • @seekperfection Usually our patients feel the first 24 hours is the worst after PRK. Many of them report little or no discomfort after 48 hours. Much of it depends on the type of protective contact lenses are used and the fit of the contact. By day 3 most of the epithelial cells are regenerated but vision is decreased because they are now in the visual axis (centrally). You are one month out? You should be doing much better?

  • @vanceman17 My sight is now 20/15 and I am doing very well. Thank You.

  • How many myopia had you?

  • well I go through 6 seconds of that...

  • wow.. you enjoyed it??? and how did you feel after that? i know PRK is better cause it does’nt involve tools like knife, microtome, or cutting laser as used in LASIK and it doesn’t create possibility of dislocated corneal flaps which often occurs after LASIK..... but I heard PRK is more painful n visual recovery is slower???

  • @annahaskari yeah, you heal slower, but less risk of corneal issues. however there is a slightly higher risk of infection. but if you use your eye drops you'll heal up fine.

  • lol it aint horrible, i had it u dont feel a thing its like 3 minutes process and its gone !

they put somethng in the eye u dont feel a thing i was kind of enjoying it lol

  • that looks horrible
