seriously? How dumbass are americans! "Oh my car wont slow down, better call the law! What more can i do?" Hmmm, how about shfting out of gear, braking and yanking the throttle back up.......
Yeah, yeah, you can say what you want and call him a dumb-ass. If you had ever been in this situation and didn't already hear about it would you have improvised a solution in time? Have some respect. I know what it's like to freak out. You don't think straight or clearly, and when you know that you only have 20 seconds to figure it out or die, you can lose it pretty easily.
put it in neutral, turn the ignition off, emergency brake. regular brake, and when its slow enough, throw it in park to save your life. but why on earth do you call 911 and not think first to do any of the above i just mentioned. its simple stuff and they are winning a darwin award for not doing it.
@jrdnkasparek Once a car is in N, the brakes will slow it down instantly. And a prius cannot accelerate with the brake and gas depressed, there is a brake override feature. Toyota was able to prove that this man was intentionally cycling the brake and gas pedal to give the impression that both were activated at once.
Who ever said neutral . You can't it's not the floor mat that was bullshit the car it's self just completely shuts down except for accelerating you can't do anything at all nothing works it has to be in the computer. As far as we know it could be a conspiracy.
Maybe, I doubt he knew he could hold the power button down for 3 seconds to kill the engine. This is something everyone with a keyless car needs to know now.
Unbelievable. And Toyota had nerve enough to publicly state that it was the owner's fault if their car over-accelated due to the floor mats. And yesterday a Prius owner in California, whose car was not included in the recall, had the exact same thing happen to him - thankfully he was able to survive with the help of CHP slowing the car down. Everyone who owns a Toyota should have it checked out. It's obvious this problem is bigger than the company if they still have not been able to fix it.

My first instinct would be to shift into neutral and take the power away from the wheels. I thought everyone with a drivers license knew to do that.
kalvinescobar 1 year ago
you need to put it in neutral and push the break!
I´m not saying that you would think of that when in that situation...

sad. People should know what to do. neutral, and push the brakes hard because you loose the power assist (due to the open throttle
