WInnipeg has a team again!! Can't wait to see them play!!! I was 1 when they left, and can't wait to see them play, atmosphere going to be insane at nice MTS center, and even just watching on TV!!
@CFLNHLFIFAFAN I am still in shock and Karma is real. Did you see Bettman? Did he not look totally uncomfortable or what?!?!? No more tears, no more memories, no more goodbyes, just hello, welcome back and good to have you!
@PITTSBURGHPENSFTW haha how about that??? just a week later it's announced that the thrashers will be moving to Winnipeg. i dont think it's official yet,but it looks like it will happen. Congrats to winnipeg!!! I hope Atlanta doesn't take it too hard, they just didn't have enough fans.
Winnipeg folks: I'm a Leafs fan to the core; but when they 'ripped' the JETS out of Winnipeg, I was outraged. I had and always will have a very 'soft spot' for the Winnipeg Jets. There's TONS upon TONS of TML fans who wants the Jets back in the PEG! Trust me: if you folks don't sell out the opening game: we'll do it for you! With LOVE!
I guess you guys forgot WHY the Jets moved to PHX in the first place. WINNIPEG wouldn't build them a new arena, and they didn't have very many fans that went to their games. Sure, you guys would LOVE to have them back now because they LEFT.
@banananutpie7 Not really. At Coyotes they announce 13000, yet there are 8000 people using their tickets at all. In Winnipeg when they announced 12000 there were actually 12000 people in the building. I checked pics from a Yotes game once and half of the lower bowl was empty.
Watching this makes me cry. Why, because Jets fans are amazing and loyal and it was a crime to move them. I'm a Wings fan and watching that playoff series in 96 was so hard because I wanted to see Detroit win but I wanted to see them lose also because I wanted the Jets to win the Stanley Cup in their final season. Hopefully the NHL will allow a franchise in Winnipeg again.
@suburbanindie The Winnipeg Arena was destroyed. It had an upper deck yes. They removed it and built the MTS centre for the Manitoba Moose AHL team, though it's not the same.
im a blues fan and we have the best fans as said by most nhl players and the reason i don't want the jets to come back is that it looks like we could lose the best fan competition it looks like winnipeg has some great fans but overall i wan to see the jets back in the NHL over the coyotes. I mean.... Coyotes? as a ICE HOCKEY TEAM MASCOT?! Its not a hockey name! i want to see the jets come back it would be great for the NHL and for the city of Winnipeg
I made a noise maker from a fire alarm and couldn't even hear it the entire night! There was just something spectacular about the Jets in that building. I've been to other arenas, and nothing comes close to the Winnipeg fans.
Heading to Calgary on Wednesday to watch the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings! The C of Red pales in comparison! Gary Bettman, your quote, "The Winnipeg Jets are no longer viable..."
It is sad that the NHL forgets its roots. This is why it deserves the problems it has. Gary Bettman needs to be fired as commissioner. He has made the league and sport something no one in america is interested in. Seriously, people in North Carolina, Tennesse, and Columbus know nothing about hockey.
Im a lifelong Bruins fan, but i am sorry for the fans of Winnepeg, canada loves the game of hockey and didnt deserve this,, they move this team to the Desert? where 10 people total have ever ice skated? such a shame, i wish the fans of Winny Get a team that they Deserve....
I know there were circumstances that resulted in the Jets moving, but it's truly a shame that the team was moved to a city that doesn't care about hockey... It still astonishes me that the NHL and Gary Bettman have put teams in areas that still don't understand the game and don't support their teams....
And the best part is Bettman won't let anyone move Phoenix back to Canada where that team belongs and where they'll actually have a real and knowledgeable fan base....
I love the fact that there's a picture of the queen. Maple Leaf Gardens used to have one before it was removed when the team was purchased by Ballard. The old barns were great. NHL get on moving Phoenix back where it belongs (Or Hamilton that works too)
Not even close buddy. i been to bell cneter this game game 3. Montreal is loud, but you may need tot ake a step into rexall palce in EDMONTON when the playoffs are on there. And Winnipeg was probably the loudest arena alkong with chi stadium and edmonton.
-Winnipeg Jets(move out of Phoenix) Put colorado in the Pacific Division
-Calgary Flames
-Edmonton Oilers
-Vancouver Canucks
-Regina or Saskatoon *insert Name* Sask's economy is on the rise, maybe in 6-7 more years we could support one. I would move out of Atlanta, and put Nashville in that division(seriously Nashville is more SouthEast then Central), so Minnesota can be in the Central division. Then walla, perfect league.
For any fan of the Phoenix Coyotes/Winnipeg Jets....I'm just curious in your opinion.
The Winnipeg Jets franchise began in 1972 when they played for the WHA, they joined the NHL in 1979. Had they not moved in 1996..this would've been their 30th season in Winnipeg.
So anyway, who do you think the greatest Jets/Coyotes players are of all time.
How could you leave out #10 Dale Hawerchuk? He led the Jets to respectability in the mid to late 1980's. Who knows how far the Jets could have gone if not for Gretzky & Co? However I admire Jim Kyte for overcoming a major disability to make it to the NHL.
I'm Canadian and would love to see a team in Winnipeg and Quebec but everyone here needs to understand that it's not a loyal fanbase that keeps a hockey team, it's corporate sponsorship. Sad but true.
I can't wait 'til the day the Winnipeg Jets return to the NHL! I think a cool thing for them to do would be to give some former NHL players or players that never really got the best shot a chance. Richard Lintner, Reto von Arx, Per Svartvadet, Mikko Elorants, Eric Bertrand, and even like a Ray Emery or Chris Simon are some names that come to mind.
I agree bring back the jets. Fire Gayry Loserman. Possibly have shane doan as captain there, there should be former jets playing there as well such as selanne, khabibulin, tverdovsky, draper, chouinard, tkachuk, others :P
sad part is General Fucktard (Gary Beats men) would rather put a team in Europe then any were else in canada, But i did see an article about another team in Toronto, Pfft just another Dumb ass move
What was the real reason the Jets left Winnipeg? The Winnipeg arena looks like a packed house, look at the passion for a team that rarely made it passed the first round. When I was in 4th grade I played intermurial Hockey as an after school activity all the teams were named after NHL teams, and the team I played for was the Jets (named after Winnipeg Jets). In my opinion the NHL was at its best with 26 teams and the canes were in hartford, avs in quebec, coyotes in winnipeg
i remeber watching jets games. this video brings back good memories. i wud love for the jets to come back but the bottom line is gary fucking betman wud shit a chiken if winnipeg was serious about getting a new team.
they should move the lightning to winnepeg the pretators to hamilton the ciyotes to quebec the islanders to hartford and the devils somewhere else in canada
moving the Jets out of Winnipeg was the dumbest thing ever. Same with the Nords in Quebec. It broke my heart and I am a Habs fan. I miss the Jets cause of their great fans and I miss the Nordique rivalry. Florida, Tampa, Nashville, Carolina, all those team's can fuck off and die.
Panthers are doing just fine in Florida. They have a solid fan base out their. The Preds are the most likley team to relocate and Winnipeg is just as good a spot as any. Them or Hartford.
well they drew better crowds than Florida, Atlanta, New York Islanders or Nashville at least. Even after missing the Playoffs 5 times in a row, finishing last in the entire NHL 3 times, once with an horrible 12-61-7 record, they still sold out most of their games. The problem is the lack of a decent arena (Nordiques arena lacked luxury boxes, seated 15399 and was 60 years old) and finding a good TV contract would be a chore because the only Quebec city based channel is nearly bankrupt
It would be nice to see hockey where it is supposed to be. I'm a Pens fan (loving this year of course) and almost having our team yanked from us by KANSAS CITY was gut-wrenching to say the least. A lot of people try and say it was because the fans didn't care and that was completely untrue. The ownership prior to Mario and company drove the team into the ground. Phoenix, Florida, Carolina are bs
Putting NHL teams back in small markets won't benefit the league, whether they are popular there or not. That is business which is what the NHL happens to be.
yeah but im pretty sure when it comes to selling tickets winnipeg (canada) does it better then phoenix (desert). The leage is wrong. Put hockey where it belongs (i.e canada and northren united states. A shiver goes down my spine everytime a team from the south wins the cup
i remember going to watch the jets they were playing against penguins, that arena looks small compared to the ones in other arens lmfao jets were bankrupt thats y they moved lol and there never comin back it would cost at least 200 million to make an nhl team in winnipeg
why do we have teams in carolina, columbus, even effin' florida? the way i see it, alot of relocation needs to be done. Nashville to Hamilton, Phoenix to Winnipeg, Carolina to Hartford, one of the 1990s expansion teams to Quebec, and make the game more agressive. i have a spite with New Jersey for making todays NHL slow and boring. i also blame bettman for the rule changes and americanization of the game. if these ideas are followed, we would have a much better game
Because Phoenix, Columbus, and Miami have larger metro populations and TV markets than Winnipeg and Quebec City...in today's NHL, money talks.
Don't get me wrong - I miss the Jets and Nords, too, but I doubt they'll return anytime soon.
Hartford and Hamilton could get teams one day. But in the short term, Egghead won't want to move any US based teams because it will hurt the porous reputation the league already has in the states.
"effin' Florida" should not move to a different city or state because we've only been in the league for 15 years and so far won no stanley cups. But remember, the panthers r not in the WHA, and the WHA's bankruptcy caused the nords to become avs, the jets to become dogs, and the whalers to become canes.
as much as I hate to say it you are correct. even if the "true" hockey fans are in quebec city or winnipeg or whatever the nhl is a business its all about the money
Oh yeah and in reference to kdawg the Jets moved because the leagues salaries and operating cost's were growing rapidly. That all hit the Canadian teams hard, also the Jets were the smallest market in the league after the Nordiques moved to Colorado. It's a shame both teams but even worse that the Jets moved out to the fucking desert.
Yeah this really sucks, how did you guys up in Winnipeg deal with this? I would be pissed the hell off, who ever said to forget about the Jets is a god damn moron. If you ask me I think they should get rid of the Devils and move them to Winnipeg :)
funkybunny u little fuckin cunt how about we dont forget about the jets winnipeg probably had the loudest and most energized crowds among every city so why dont u just got fuck yourself.
Forget about the jets why? They were a great team with some star players on the team. I would love to see Nashville get moved to Winnipeg they have an arena that can support a NHL hockey team and the city has the love for the game.
Forget about the damn jets already.. They are long gone. People still have this thought in thier heads from 1996, they don't realize that the NHL is crap in winnipeg.
I want the Jets back in Winnipeg, places like Phoenix, Florida, Atlanta and Carolina do not deserve teams more than the great fans in Winnipeg. This is coming from a Buffalo Sabres fan hoping for a move back to Winnipeg! Unfortunately I have a feeling I will lose the Bills as my team in the next few years as they are slowly moving towards Toronto. Oh well, the leagues and owners have no loyalty anymore, only money matters.
Never been to Manitoba. Barely remember seeing the Jets play. And yet, I find this video incredibly depressing. There is something so vile about taking a team away from a city. Particularly a small, incredibly dedicated and loyal city like Winnipeg.
i used to get jets tix from mickey dee's. they sold them cheap. the jets sucked when i lived there, but i loved going to see em lose.good times. treasured games when they kept it close against montreal. i left the peg when they just got selanne. they didnt get the fans goin to the games at the end.needed more support. they did try at the end,it was all over the news. its a real shame.i think peggers wouldnt make same mistake again. bring the jets back.
cadabrketish, thanks for posting this -- it really brings back good memories of the old barn, with Dancing Gabe, the Whiteouts and the great crowd back in the 'Peg. I remember one pregame show when they shot a T-shirt up to the nosebleed section and it got stuck in the girders right over my family -- I hoisted my son on my shoulders and he reached up and got the souvenir, and later he got it autographed by Temu Selanne. The Jets will never come back, but it was a great party while it lasted!
How sad that they lost their team. My understanding is that there was a LOT OF LOVE in Winnepeg and Quebec for their teams; its a shame to see the Jets and Nordiques go away. The "flavor" of hockey in Canada there was really different than in the states...
Well, grass does grow it's just not indigenous to the area.
LOL. In Florida, ice also grows on our A/C coils and tubes when the unit runs for too long a time and condensation begins to form. I bet that's not a problem in Canada!
media 401 your a dumbass and dont realize that the jets rocked and have some sick ass history man like selannes rookie record and not to mention stuff like the first million dollar contract so you can just shut the fuck up
At the end of the day its all about money, if none is generated by the team and the city and can find another city to make a killing in then they're gonna move
and i agree that the move to phoenix was pointless they at least got fan support in canada and could make it to the playoffs and in phoenix they have made the playoffs like 3 times in 11 years and look at how many other southern teams have to cups yet to show =P at southern hockey
well i do agree that hockey is lame in the south the nordics and jets should never have moved but y did they have to if you canadians love them so much??? and GO RED WINGS

Long live the Jets!!!!
Louisville204 3 years ago
What was the real reason the Jets left Winnipeg? The Winnipeg arena looks like a packed house, look at the passion for a team that rarely made it passed the first round. When I was in 4th grade I played intermurial Hockey as an after school activity all the teams were named after NHL teams, and the team I played for was the Jets (named after Winnipeg Jets). In my opinion the NHL was at its best with 26 teams and the canes were in hartford, avs in quebec, coyotes in winnipeg
ECWnWWF 3 years ago
i remeber watching jets games. this video brings back good memories. i wud love for the jets to come back but the bottom line is gary fucking betman wud shit a chiken if winnipeg was serious about getting a new team.
jayhawksblow69 3 years ago
they should move the lightning to winnepeg the pretators to hamilton the ciyotes to quebec the islanders to hartford and the devils somewhere else in canada
anonymous16007 3 years ago
It will be great when the Jets come back to Winnipeg because then everyone will be able to not go to Jets games again
channel04news 3 years ago
As a Oiler fan I hope the Jets return to Winnipeg because only true hockey fans like those in Edmonton, Winnipeg and Calgary deserve a team.
creburke 3 years ago 2
moving the Jets out of Winnipeg was the dumbest thing ever. Same with the Nords in Quebec. It broke my heart and I am a Habs fan. I miss the Jets cause of their great fans and I miss the Nordique rivalry. Florida, Tampa, Nashville, Carolina, all those team's can fuck off and die.
JohnnyCashIsGod 3 years ago
the ducks are doing great in anahiem sold out every game last year
anonymous16007 3 years ago
they should move the Blue jakets to quebec
the coyotes back to winnipeg
the preds to hamilton
and the panthers to Saskatchewen or kelowna
canuck1GA2 3 years ago
Panthers are doing just fine in Florida. They have a solid fan base out their. The Preds are the most likley team to relocate and Winnipeg is just as good a spot as any. Them or Hartford.
thebig1 3 years ago
the blue jackets have a solid fanbase too
anonymous16007 3 years ago
-crys a little- so many memories...
orngconty 3 years ago
how buff would it be if the coyotes moved back to winnipeg and the panthers moved their franchise to quebec...thats what should happen
djh101389 3 years ago
no srry keep panthers in the league (I'm a panthers fan) take away the blue faggots (blue jackets), they're fuckin shit.

Would be nice but hell will freeze over before the put a city in Quebec again. Way too small
rogtodd 3 years ago
I meant a team in that city again. Bad typing this morning sorry
rogtodd 3 years ago
well they drew better crowds than Florida, Atlanta, New York Islanders or Nashville at least. Even after missing the Playoffs 5 times in a row, finishing last in the entire NHL 3 times, once with an horrible 12-61-7 record, they still sold out most of their games. The problem is the lack of a decent arena (Nordiques arena lacked luxury boxes, seated 15399 and was 60 years old) and finding a good TV contract would be a chore because the only Quebec city based channel is nearly bankrupt
xlibman 3 years ago
It would be nice to see hockey where it is supposed to be. I'm a Pens fan (loving this year of course) and almost having our team yanked from us by KANSAS CITY was gut-wrenching to say the least. A lot of people try and say it was because the fans didn't care and that was completely untrue. The ownership prior to Mario and company drove the team into the ground. Phoenix, Florida, Carolina are bs
rogtodd 3 years ago
no its not florida, phoenix, and carolina, its carolina, phoenix, and colorado.
firstbloodstrat 3 years ago
Colorado isn't bs sorry if you disagree but that is a city that should have hockey
rogtodd 3 years ago
ur right but i didnt like colorado back in the 90's; against the panthers in the stanley cup finals.
firstbloodstrat 3 years ago
actually i give the nords credit for the stanley cup, because colorado pretty much had the same roster.
firstbloodstrat 3 years ago
Putting NHL teams back in small markets won't benefit the league, whether they are popular there or not. That is business which is what the NHL happens to be.
rogtodd 3 years ago
i hope they do come back though, same as quebec nordiques
leafsfan1991 3 years ago
yeah but im pretty sure when it comes to selling tickets winnipeg (canada) does it better then phoenix (desert). The leage is wrong. Put hockey where it belongs (i.e canada and northren united states. A shiver goes down my spine everytime a team from the south wins the cup
Yohoalex 3 years ago
i remember going to watch the jets they were playing against penguins, that arena looks small compared to the ones in other arens lmfao jets were bankrupt thats y they moved lol and there never comin back it would cost at least 200 million to make an nhl team in winnipeg
kidgoku23 3 years ago
why do we have teams in carolina, columbus, even effin' florida? the way i see it, alot of relocation needs to be done.
VViewer92 3 years ago
Because Phoenix, Columbus, and Miami have larger metro populations and TV markets than Winnipeg and Quebec City...in today's NHL, money talks.
Don't get me wrong - I miss the Jets and Nords, too, but I doubt they'll return anytime soon.
Hartford and Hamilton could get teams one day. But in the short term, Egghead won't want to move any US based teams because it will hurt the porous reputation the league already has in the states.
BrightOranje 3 years ago
"effin' Florida" should not move to a different city or state because we've only been in the league for 15 years and so far won no stanley cups. But remember, the panthers r not in the WHA, and the WHA's bankruptcy caused the nords to become avs, the jets to become dogs, and the whalers to become canes.
firstbloodstrat 3 years ago
as much as I hate to say it you are correct. even if the "true" hockey fans are in quebec city or winnipeg or whatever the nhl is a business its all about the money
djh101389 3 years ago
Oh yeah and in reference to kdawg the Jets moved because the leagues salaries and operating cost's were growing rapidly. That all hit the Canadian teams hard, also the Jets were the smallest market in the league after the Nordiques moved to Colorado. It's a shame both teams but even worse that the Jets moved out to the fucking desert.
NYR307 3 years ago
Yeah this really sucks, how did you guys up in Winnipeg deal with this? I would be pissed the hell off, who ever said to forget about the Jets is a god damn moron. If you ask me I think they should get rid of the Devils and move them to Winnipeg :)
NYR307 3 years ago 4
funkybunny u little fuckin cunt how about we dont forget about the jets winnipeg probably had the loudest and most energized crowds among every city so why dont u just got fuck yourself.
jigthis 3 years ago 2
why'd the jets move?
kdawg7736 3 years ago
Forget about the jets why? They were a great team with some star players on the team. I would love to see Nashville get moved to Winnipeg they have an arena that can support a NHL hockey team and the city has the love for the game.
drugbro123 3 years ago
Forget about the damn jets already.. They are long gone. People still have this thought in thier heads from 1996, they don't realize that the NHL is crap in winnipeg.
funkybunny9966 3 years ago
you obviously dont know the NHL and the attendance numbers in some of the so called "expansion" teams...figures...ignorant american...
bludika 3 years ago
I want the Jets back in Winnipeg, places like Phoenix, Florida, Atlanta and Carolina do not deserve teams more than the great fans in Winnipeg. This is coming from a Buffalo Sabres fan hoping for a move back to Winnipeg! Unfortunately I have a feeling I will lose the Bills as my team in the next few years as they are slowly moving towards Toronto. Oh well, the leagues and owners have no loyalty anymore, only money matters.
nick881213 3 years ago
im so sad i want the jets back... i never acctuallly got to see them play.... :( since im only 14 but i want them back soooooooo bad!! JETS 4 LIFE!!!

Never been to Manitoba. Barely remember seeing the Jets play. And yet, I find this video incredibly depressing. There is something so vile about taking a team away from a city. Particularly a small, incredibly dedicated and loyal city like Winnipeg.

i used to get jets tix from mickey dee's. they sold them cheap. the jets sucked when i lived there, but i loved going to see em lose.good times. treasured games when they kept it close against montreal. i left the peg when they just got selanne. they didnt get the fans goin to the games at the end.needed more support. they did try at the end,it was all over the news. its a real shame.i think peggers wouldnt make same mistake again. bring the jets back.

lol the whalers? go Hartford! i remember the first game i went to was Hartford and the Jets.. i believe we lost
PianoSpider 3 years ago
cadabrketish, thanks for posting this -- it really brings back good memories of the old barn, with Dancing Gabe, the Whiteouts and the great crowd back in the 'Peg.

We could have a trillionaire and still betteman would say NO.

It's not Bettman's decision. It would go for approval of the board of governors.
djob2676 3 years ago
How sad that they lost their team. My understanding is that there was a LOT OF LOVE in Winnepeg and Quebec for their teams; its a shame to see the Jets and Nordiques go away. The "flavor" of hockey in Canada there was really different than in the states...

What intensity! Removing the Jets was a crime AFAICT. Down with capitalism!!!

grass grows naturally in phoenix and so does ice, in peoples freezers
19shanedoan19 4 years ago
Well, grass does grow it's just not indigenous to the area.
LOL. In Florida, ice also grows on our A/C coils and tubes when the unit runs for too long a time and condensation begins to form. I bet that's not a problem in Canada!

At the end of the day its all about money, if none is generated by the team and the city and can find another city to make a killing in then they're gonna move
EddieV843 4 years ago
and i agree that the move to phoenix was pointless they at least got fan support in canada and could make it to the playoffs and in phoenix they have made the playoffs like 3 times in 11 years and look at how many other southern teams have to cups yet to show =P at southern hockey
Tigersfan829 4 years ago 3
well i do agree that hockey is lame in the south the nordics and jets should never have moved but y did they have to if you canadians love them so much??? and GO RED WINGS
