to add to your comment, we watched on the Corridor from a distance and it took what seemed like a very long time to get the train "apart" and off of the mains
One story that came out from this train was that service city councils were not happy with UP not informing them about running this train. The main reason of course was for what if this train broke down on crossing, how would emergency personnel get around the issue. I believe everyone knows that this was actually 3 trains combined and split up in the alameda corridor to goto separate facilities.
301 50ft+ units.. my goodness. I don't know if it was 18k feet, but it was definitely over 15k feet. Imagine having to walk and inspect that train if it goes into emergency. Might as well go ahead and call a relief crew..
@Rocketboy1950 I thought so, In Fullerton (where we watch BNSF) the max freight speed is 50, this UP train was hitting 60+ and created quite the turbulence for me as I was rather close to the track (but still behind the 'Limit' lines) ... The sign I was leaning on started slapping me... too funny..
@johnsoncm65 nope..that would've diminished the interactivity of "feeling and experiencing" the event to 'just a video' of a long train... or something like that.... Ok, really, I got there ran across the tracks just a hair before the gates activated so I really had no chance to prepare... so I used a sign whcih turned out to be interactive itself in the wind created...
This train does nothing but take more jobs from the train crews, i hope it goes into emergency in the middle of a city and blocks everything for hours then maybe UP will understand this is a bad idea.
@traindriver11 I thought that it was just a try out of the remote control equipment not a trial to running trains that big that the yards couldn't hold them.
holy sh.....loll im working for railroad in canada and here we cant block a crossing more than 5 minutes if over we have to call rtc but if trains run like that there is no time limit...nice long train....hope conductor does not hit a hot box detector on axles 6 hundreds something lolllll

that train should be illegal. it takes way to long to go past the crossing even at 70 mph. could you imagine if it was going at 10 mph, you would be sitting there for almost 20 minutes
The RRs can do this if they want. The big problem, according to my RR acqs. is that their jobs may be jeopardized if this experiment succeeds. The cities have nothing to say about it.
Ever get stuck with a local switching near an intersection... that doesn't make news blocking the traffic for 4--10 minutes sometimes.
yes i have and i wourk for the rr and i turn them in to the fra every time i have to sit for more than 10 minutes. could you inagine if that train was carring haz-mat it would be the perfect target for a terrorist
The whole test on this train was GE testing new Locotrol software for DP Units, that also why the train was Powered with all GE GEVOs, CP did a similar test with GEVOs and the Locotrol on a 200 car 30,000 ton grain train.
I know right where that's at. I used to work for PC Club computers in Arizona and when in management training, they put me up in that hotel right on the freeway and Nogales - I would often come down to the exact point where you filmed while there.
DOUBLE STACK "PARADISE" !!!! :) It's GREAT the way those GE ES44's sound like Star Wars "Tie Fighters"

The video was almost 4 minutes so even at 60+ mph the crossing was occupied as shown...
mphill66 1 year ago
Jeez!!! That's a long train. If it was going slow there would be a lot of unhappy drivers if they got caught by that thing at a crossing.

With all those Evolution Series engines running around America I won't be too surprised if other railroads start doing the same test with Locotrol.

You work for the railroad, and you call the FRA on your own people? You must be a weed rat! Or a foamer claiming to work the railroad!

True, but if the train moves the time starts over.
