The last two comments below mine were made by dicks that know NOTHING about music or about the maestro that is Mark Knopfler, "lol" and "miserable" in the same sentence????pair of morons,,,,just let his music take you to another world...i do...god bless you Mark.
someone shrunk that guys guitar! knofler came in my shop once. i didnt think it was him at first then he gave me his credit card! he was a miserable bastard!!!LOL it must be a 'blues' thing!!!
I saw Mark and band last year twice in Portland and at Jacksonville in Oregon...amazing performances, I am continually in awe of his incredible creative energy to write these songs, to be an amazing musician, and to reach your heart when he makes his guitar "sing" I vow to go to Europe to see him there again!!
I never tire of any of his songs, he is a genius in his composition and melody, and arrangement, besides being one of the most talented guitarists in the world..he is unbelievable to see, I wish i hadn't missed their concerts in the 80s/90s when I was in Alaska...look at some of his videos with Clapton..
Since the first time i heard the song on the album i said this song would be A-MA-ZING played live, but man... The crying sound of the Les Paul the way Mark plays it will never be equaled. I saw/heard him play this live in Amsterdam, i can't remember ever having goosebumps like that... Also really hoping to find a live DVD but i read on Guy's forum there are no plans for that, Mark's already busy with his new album so...
In my previous comment I was hoping for some live "recording" of this tour to come. So I thought that you were making reference to this and wanted to say 'live recording'. Misunderstanding.
There was some online petition asking Knopflers management for a DVD release, though. Hope they are successful !
Anyway ,in Guy said ,in his forum, that all gigs were recorded...so this is a good thing.....maybe Mark really wants to make a cd/dvd for the ktgc tour.maybe!
O.k., I looked up his forum. Nothing decisive, but let them finish their holidays and we will see :)
Apart from that (but still somewhat related to the topic) I am ashamed by some people who apparently try to make money with their recordings. It is not 'their' art and work they're selling, for which reason I really find their approach embarrassing !
They should do it for free and/or only for themselves, or just let it be !
Strongly hope that they will horribly crash with their business x-(
Goes on all the time, happens with all kinds of creative work from bricklayers to academics. Have to say if I were MK with net wealth of over $100m I would not be wagging my finger.
I hope they will make a CD or DVD or whatever from this tour (i.e. this song). This one, I would LOVE to hear it with some 'real sound'. Again and again. Pure magic ...
Definitely one of the surprise songs from this tour and of all the songs on the 'Ragpickers' album this is one of my favourites. I saw Mark in London and the outro version of this song on that night was slightly different - this is the best version I have heard so far though. The only song missing to make it a really good set list was 'Silvertown Blues' - one day maybe!
I'm quite amazed at how many people have got away with recordin the concerts. Especially those that seem quite close. In Manchester MK pointed at someone filmin the show and wagged his finger at them.
a masterpiece of a song! so deep, heart wounded... "so-o baad...."
Too bad they faded it out so early in the album version.

definitely unbeatable, impossible to copy or imitate....I was there, it took me 2 hours to get back to normal life after that gig

The sound coming from a Gibson guitar between hands and fingers of Mark Knopfler is definitively magic.

He made the ending solo expressly for the live version!
