I'm very interested that nobody mentions the SBS! why - because they mostly stay under the radar and don't court media interest- should be in anybodys list but most of you know very little about them.
The French Foreign Legion is an elite unit but not a special forces unit. My list would be: 1. Br. SAS, 2. USN SEALs, 3. Rus. Spetsnaz, 4. Is. Seyetet, 5. Ger. KSK. The Green Berets are counter-insurgents, not commandos. Delta Force and JSOC might make the Top 10, but not the Top 5. Incidentally, the FFL considers only the USMC anywhere as good as them.
I love the way Americans always talk about killing terrorist yet they themselves were charged with terrorism at a international nations court but they VETO'd it :)
I'm not sure who started counter-terrorism but I do know SEAL team #6 and SAS have trained together in counter-terrorism. While Bin Laden nerver admitted to 9/11, we all know he was involved in terrorist attacks worldwide. So if the SAS wasn't even looking for him, why not?

Also they crashed a helicopter because they couldn't fly it properly and in Somalia they crashed a helicopter into a jet despite the fact they travel at altitudes that are so far a part. My only issue with this is that a majority of the footage for "Delta Force" was actually Marines and Airborne, Delta very rarely commandeers tanks, they are primarily an infantry force dropped off for intel/reconnaissance/informant extraction. The videos of KSK and Spetznaz were refreshing though, many thanks.
Come on everyone lets be real. In oder to even be considered in the top five you need to have had recent and frequent combat experience. The SAS is legit, seen them in action in Iraq however I do not think they are better at executing any mission anywhere than Delta....Delta is made up of the best of the best from all other SpecOps in the US.

We have ex Soviet (USSR) spetsnaz is teaching seasoned navy seals/ marines hand to hand kombat.... here in Dallas. That is just one of many who is not up to date on the latest training in Russian special forces:).
Currently Russian hand to hand combat/ systema is even introduced world wide to military personal and civilians. Israeli are the only ones I've heard of who have something close of such nature.
Spetznaz training is much harder, and their far more experienced in counter terrorism than seals or sas.
All branches of spetsnaz must (rotationally)serve in hot spots of South caucus including Chechnya. look into details. This information is basic Wikipedia is a good start:).
Israeli would be my 2nd choice, they live in hot spot. I suggest you look into details on training of all these special forces.

I give joint credit to number one because you put a squad of each on the ground together and they have the combined effect of an entire division. I would not rank one above the other, nor would anyone convince me otherwise.
I put Delta above Spetznaz only because I believe that Delta has seen more combat experience.
SAS and SBS are the most highly trained and seasoned soldiers in the world and served in virtually every theatre of war since WW2 - INCLUDING UNOFFICIALLY IN VIETNAM assisting US special forces and advising. Even the US, German, Dutch and the Israeli special forces have been trained and advised by the SAS in the past. No other unit has shown the sheer guts, dedication, commitment and professionalism as those lads. For instance, regarding civilian hostage situations, no one is better than them.
@VoRlC FYI......america does not have the best equiped troops. Australia has an army rated as about 140th in size in the world. With a bit of assistance from america for americas good of course, australia has the eigth highest expenditure on military. it spends about ten times more per soldier than american soldiers. Our elite SASR soldiers have the best of american and german technology at hand at any time. we use the best from all over the world, including america. We give the best.

America spends 349 billion a year and is largest spender but spread very thin. Same with other top countries except germany. Like australia, germany goes for a technological military over brute force. In special forces, I think some people need to see them in action.
@TripleOGM8 Actually, I dont know why they would even think to accertain that when the australian SASR has been with america on every battle since 1956. Australian sasr members are regularly training with american special forces and also are attached frequently to marine and ranger forces on the front line as their intelligence service. Marines and rangers are good, but thats assisted by good intelligence....remove the intelligence and might be different?
Those videos aren't of Delta Force. They normally don't wear military uniforms, and the guy they showed had hair and facial hair to military requirements. Delta doesn't abide by that.

Or at least they did while in the Middle East. That could very well be Delta, I just don't think it is.

SASR and delta both occassionally do civy work....but nearly always in field operation regulatory fatigues. My only issue with this is that a majority of the footage for "Delta Force" was actually Marines and Airborne, Delta very rarely commandeers tanks, they are primarily an infantry force dropped off for intel/reconnaissance/informant extraction. The videos of KSK and Spetznaz were refreshing though, many thanks.

The SAS is legit, seen them in action in Iraq however I do not think they are better at executing any mission anywhere than Delta....Delta is made up of the best of the best from all other SpecOps in the US.

We have ex Soviet (USSR) spetsnaz is teaching seasoned navy seals/ marines hand to hand kombat.... here in Dallas. That is just one of many who is not up to date on the latest training in Russian special forces:).
Currently Russian hand to hand combat/ systema is even introduced world wide to military personal and civilians. Israeli are the only ones I've heard of who have something close of such nature.

Spetznaz training is much harder, and their far more experienced in counter terrorism than seals or sas.
All branches of spetsnaz must (rotationally)serve in hot spots of South caucus including Chechnya. look into details. This information is basic Wikipedia is a good start:).
Israeli would be my 2nd choice, they live in hot spot. I suggest you look into details on training of all these special forces.

I give joint credit to number one because you put a squad of each on the ground together and they have the combined effect of an entire division. I would not rank one above the other, nor would anyone convince me otherwise.
I put Delta above Spetznaz only because I believe that Delta has seen more combat experience.

SAS and SBS are the most highly trained and seasoned soldiers in the world and served in virtually every theatre of war since WW2 - INCLUDING UNOFFICIALLY IN VIETNAM assisting US special forces and advising. Even the US, German, Dutch and the Israeli special forces have been trained and advised by the SAS in the past. No other unit has shown the sheer guts, dedication, commitment and professionalism as those lads. For instance, regarding civilian hostage situations, no one is better than them.

With a bit of assistance from america for americas good of course, australia has the eigth highest expenditure on military. it spends about ten times more per soldier than american soldiers. Australian sasr members are regularly training with american special forces and also are attached frequently to marine and ranger forces on the front line as their intelligence service. Marines and rangers are good, but thats assisted by good intelligence....remove the intelligence and might be different?

Those videos aren't of Delta Force. They normally don't wear military uniforms, and the guy they showed had hair and facial hair to military requirements. Delta doesn't abide by that.

Or at least they did while in the Middle East. That could very well be Delta, I just don't think it is.

SAS have been outdated since hte 60s. DELTA is by far the best. Best technology, no expense sparred training, the highest of the high in the US Army that recruits from the Berets, SEALs and rangers. No SF has been more successful and no military is anywhere near CLOSE to the amount and power of the US. Placing Delta 3rd means your some fucking moron who needs to have themselves shot by Delta :D
