As i have posted before, i hire out many different cars for weddings, proms, and all sorts of other events. No one ever wants to hire a Lexus, (we sold our two LS's) but 7 series are always popular. Lexus just doesnt have the cachet of a German car. A Japanese car doesnt make the driver feel special.

Who cares about the resale value of cars like these? Certainly not the people that are actually buying them. I m driving a Lexus ES350, it's a great car, luxurious, front wheel drive, very very quiet, great handling n responsive, plus it's made n shipped from Japan, i just love it, i advise people to buy Lexus instead of BMW ( big money wasted) or mercedes benze( money burned).
If you are buying a car for performance you aren't buying a car for reliability, stop comparing the two, Honda Accords are reliable as fuck, but they also won't go very fast or get you any ass. European luxury cars are by far the most unreliable vehicles in the world (its a fact, stop whining) they are also some of the sexiest and the fastest machines in the world. You can't have it all, unless you own several 100,000 cars and a Honda Accord.
I have to disagree with that whole "are the most unreliable". Modern German cars have slipped in quality, but look at any German car made before 2000, especially the 190E Merc.
Every independent consumer reporting agency will tell you the exact same thing, as far as international car reliability goes, Japanese has been and still is at the top, American cars have consistently been in the middle, and European cars will fall to the bottom almost every time. This is for a few reasons, the top three being Jaguar, Audi and Porsche. As far as cars over 13 years old go I'm not sure, but all I know is a car is only as reliable as the owner. I can make an A6 outlast an Accord
Ok I bought a used 1998 BMW M3, bought a used 2001 540i, and bought brand new 2002 BMW X5 3.0i. BMW has a great ride quality, good control, great looking, but it is not reliable as a lexus. My cuz has a 98 Lexus LS400 w/280k+ miles and all he has done was change the fluids and belts. My BMW's I had to change a lot of parts out of it. Transmission to suspension, gauge cluster being dead, ac compressors, engines sounds bad at 100k. LS400 280k+ sounds great!!
Lexus L-series is awesome. I used to thought it's an ugly shitty Toyota. But after my colleague gave me a ride in her LX-570, I changed my mind. The interior of that car is way too beautiful and luxury, compared to bimmer 5-series. No clue about 7-series though. But I still prefer a Mercedes

@sha0623 Ive had a 530D since new (2002) and covered 120,000 so far. All ive ever needed is general servicing. I own five cars of my own, and i hire out around 25 cars. Hardly anyone ever wants to hire a Lexus, but BMW, Mercedes, Bentley and even the Audi A8's are always popular. We had two LS's on the fleet. Both sold due to lack of use.

You'd figure the same engine size and number of cylinders would yield the same 1/2 mile time. You'll be surprise how much engineering can make a difference.
for those of you who are slow in the head. The BMW comes with a Twin Turbo V8 at 400HP at the price of 88 to 91K where the Lexus comes with a non-twin turbo V8 380HP at the price of 72-75K. The questions you should ask, what if the lexus had a twin turbo i know for a fact it wouldn't top off at 400HP from 380HP. Also what's up with the price difference when the lexus comes with more shit and more options and is built better?

lexus didn't jump on the two runs, what happens is that NA engines react quicker at sudden acceleration than turbo engines. the engine in the lexus always reacted quicker than the one on the bmw cause there was no turbo lag, besides if they were no turbos on the bimmer, is completely obious that the bimmer will get smoked. I own an ES350 and i smoked a 535i easily since i dont depend on turbo boost. Turbo engines are cool, but NA engines are the bosses and still the best in motorsports.
@superhawkn you have to remember one simple fact. Lexus just started getting back into the whole look how fast our car is game. Where BMW has been in it for years, the IS350 ISF and LFA are just tips and a glimpse of what they can do while giving you the best features and comfort for the price and still being reliable and maintaining their value any one can make a car that is fast. But only a few can truly make luxury a standard.

@sha0623 Ive had a 530D since new (2002) and covered 120,000 so far. All ive ever needed is general servicing. I own five cars of my own, and i hire out around 25 cars. Hardly anyone ever wants to hire a Lexus, but BMW, Mercedes, Bentley and even the Audi A8's are always popular. We had two LS's on the fleet. Both sold due to lack of use.

I can break it down for youtube like this. I love BMW's, but I respect other brands, in my family, we have about 3 or 4 1990's Lexus Ls's, and I swear they are the most reliable cars ever! The BMW is Turbo'd from the factory, and as much as I love them, they just simply cannot match the Lex's build quality.

@jbayse99 If it was all about speed, then we would be comparing with Lamborghinis and Ferraris. Its about how the car makes you "feel". And the Lexus feels just like any other Japanese car. The BMW has quality on its side, something no Japanese car will ever grasp. The damped feeling to the switches, the solid "thud" when the doors close. If you prefer Lexus, thats your choice, but How much is an LS400 worth these days? 50p or so?.....

The 750i is almost 20K more expensive than the LS460. In about seven years they will both be selling for about the same price. One car never breaks down, the other does. There's the difference. No one ever wants to hire a Lexus, we sold the two we had as they never got used. Not even for weddings on a budget. The Lexus badge has no presence on the road, and they look completely anonymous. The German badges gain respect and jealousy in equal measure, something a Jap car will never do. Sorry but its true.

It's like a grand more for leather. There's some REAL quality. You should really know this. I'm sure you are done with me since I refute every bogus claim you make with facts. I am German, I speak it, and used to own an Audi. So, I am not too biased. Lexus is the real deal now-a-days.

Shove a load of switches and some plastic wood in a big Toyota and people say its a luxury car. I own quite a few cars, and i stgill love my 2002 E39 3.0TD. Goes well, averages 34mpg, and still rides as quiet and smooth as the day i bought it. And thats after 120k miles. The engine is just nicely run in now. My van is a Nissan, and its ok. If BMW ever made a van, the Nissan would be gone.

They probably drove a bog standard Toyota before the Lexus, so i suppose it would feel good to them. I drive my Bentley quite a lot, but i still reach for the BMW keys on a regular basis. And how they are so unreliable is beyond me. Maybe its how these idiots treat their cars? They should try maintaining them. Enjoy your Merc, lovely cars :)

for those of you who are slow in the head. The BMW comes with a Twin Turbo V8 at 400HP at the price of 88 to 91K where the Lexus comes with a non-twin turbo V8 380HP at the price of 72-75K. The questions you should ask, what if the lexus had a twin turbo i know for a fact it wouldn't top off at 400HP from 380HP. Also what's up with the price difference when the lexus comes with more shit and more options and is built better?

lexus didn't jump on the two runs, what happens is that NA engines react quicker at sudden acceleration than turbo engines. the engine in the lexus always reacted quicker than the one on the bmw cause there was no turbo lag, besides if they were no turbos on the bimmer, is completely obious that the bimmer will get smoked. I own an ES350 and i smoked a 535i easily since i dont depend on turbo boost. Turbo engines are cool, but NA engines are the bosses and still the best in motorsports.

Where BMW has been in it for years, the IS350 ISF and LFA are just tips and a glimpse of what they can do while giving you the best features and comfort for the price and still being reliable and maintaining their value any one can make a car that is fast. But only a few can truly make luxury a standard.

@atpdoor the only reason the bmw is supercharged is because its got a 4.0 liter v8 to increase fuel economy. thats the size toyota (lexus) employs in its suv. so for the bmw, its a win-win scenario ;) (more power+more economy. and besides, lex sucks like shit. and as for the 'if', it'll always be an if, and you lex losers will keep moaning about it.
