Music, and i mean this kind of music, realy gets adictive to me. It's like sigarettes. You listen to it onces and don't know the brand or anything you just know it's great. And after hearing it more and more you start getting/searching the things for yourself and you find more and more stuff untill you can't live without it. Except music isn't harmless. You can listen or play it all you life. I can not even start imagining a world without music.
i love this song, especially acoustic, but Marks guitar sound on the electric guitar together with Eric's acoustic is probably the best version of this song ever...i got goosebumps each time i listen to this
Most of the "new" music souds really old, thousand times heard poor melodies and arrangements, and boring like "lady" gaga, but for Eminem and some nicer new stuff like that.
I hate it when people say CLAPTON is over rated, cause he clearly isn't, he is an amazing guitar player, an amazing song writer, and an amazing singer, so how the fck is he over rated, people like Joe satriani are amazing guitar player but he can not sing for toffee
@JacobsBrendan lol you're comparing clapton to knopfler? hah you've never heard the majestic, passionate, unique playing, songwriting, composing of Mr Mark Knopfler.
@FringeDivisionNY I have. I respect Knoplfer with every bone in my body for his playing, writing and passion for what he does. But I definitely think they are a good comparison. If you don't think so, you should look up some of Clapton's stuff. I like Clapton a little more because I have known of him longer and I like how he always goes back to the blues. Robert Johnson, Son House, etc. Check out his Crossroads guitar festival.
@JacobsBrendan I'm well aware of claptons work, I have several albums such as Riding with the king, Cream, and his work with the beatles and so on. I just feel Knopfler is more superior, i've seen both in concert several times here in NYC and Noone has moved me, like knopfler. When he played brothers in arms I felt time stop. His music has inspired me in so many ways, by the same token I respect your appreciation for clapton. Happy Holidays.
@FringeDivisionNY If you have seen them in concert than I am sure you are right. It is one of my dreams to see either one of them live! Clapton is very skilled but he is definitely not as passionate about his music as Knopfler is. In some videos of Romeo and Juliet you can almost see Knopfler crying. Clapton is amazing but he plays guitar almost like it is a chore and he isn't enjoying it a lot. I can not imagine seeing Knopfler play Brothers in Arms live! Happy Christmas!

Because when you have Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfer playing Layla, that's what you should do. Clap your hands, and make this face ----> :| ... Ungrateful people.
Seriously guys. Stop hating on new music. Everyone has their own taste, music is music. A real music fan would listen to all the world's music, from Beethoven to islandic power metal groups.
@Amoscus sorry..you said NEW MUSIC? Come on, the repeating of few notes through all the song (if I can say song) and computer-made rhythm drum (without life) and someone with voice like a donkey who THINKS he/she is singing? I have horrible voice but I still can be singer nowdays that's very easy. Listen to classical music and 50's 60's 70's 80's that's the real meaning of music, if you want to listen melody without life listen to new "music". Sorry but your comment irritated me.Have a nice day
@ndzordz Hey man, Clapton wrote the song! He ought to know how to sing his own song. (I am reminded when the audience booed van Morrison when he sang Gloria).
@Amoscus Lol that's much shit in one comment. By your comment, I could tell that every noise I do is music. No one is dedicated to makeing music today. They just write whatever comes to their mind, make a beat, use audiotune and advertise it. The result is money. Which was not the case 20 years ago.
@Amoscus True. True. But new music is so commercial, I believe most of the time the 'artists' are not truly in it for the music, but just the fame, money and attention.
@1rtwilson normaly that is the case with bands that have been put together, but bands like dire straits were formed by them selfs, and as I am a big knopfler fan I know he wrote all his own material and choose what to sing, he has never abused drugs or alcohol, so the ones that have made that choice it was not rammed down their throats, clapton sings from experience were as knopfler sings from experience but in a different way, knopfler sings a lot about working class and how he made ends meat
@1rtwilson most bands are your average bloke in the street as thats what bands are, normal lads struggling to get some were, but some of the singers you see have been put up their by some marketing manager, not many bands going round the uk that come from uperclass homes lol
@Amoscus Beethoven and Icelandic power metal groups are OK, but artificially created and over-hyoed boy-bands, girl-bands, Biebers and anyone else not writing their own material should be drowned in a sack !!
saw these guys in the late 80's in the Washington D.C. area, it could not be stopped....the band, the audience were all firing on the same cylinders...the performance reached such a level of power and intimacy that Eric walks up to the mic. smiling from ear to ear and says, " I love you all" ....it was an exceptional evening.
@antiHUMANDesigns These guys have something you probably don´t understand: Their Guitars have Soul, Signature, personality. So, if you listen any song, anyone, performed by them, you know imediately tthey are playing. Just a few Guitar Players reached this point, and when you get there, speed does not matter, mechanics does not matter, technique does not matter: The Guitar sings for you, you are the guitar, and the guitar is you... Two of the best of all time.
@leocmen I have played guitar for 18 years. I was brought up with B.B. King and Gary Moore. I know about the soul of it. I just think eric clapton is overrated. Mark Knpfler is really awesome, though.
@antiHUMANDesigns Forgive me, initially I did not understand you position.
But I totally agree with you, Mark is much more unique, stylish and striking in his execution. People will rant and complain about what I will say: Knopfler is far away ahead of Clapton ... I think Knopfler pays the price for having chosen, after Dire Straits, his own musical life, in a more intimate and less appealing way.
@leocmen Yes, I agree completely. Ye, knopfler has done some good and some bad stuff in his solo career. I remember buying his "Golden Heart" record when it came out, thinking it'd be like dire straits, and it was kind of bad apart from a few songs. But some of his later stuff have been better, so I don't know. I just listen to the old stuff.
@antiHUMANDesigns well ... Although he changed his musical style in his solo career, as a guitar performer, his signature is unmistakable. Knopfler is one of the most Distinctive guitarists of all time. When he hits the first few notes you know who it is.

But there used to be lots of "stupid teen bands" years ago. So people should stop saying that music is bad today by pointing out bands like those, it doesn't make sense.
Plus we have tons of great recent bands and artists today if you'd only care: the Red hot chili Peppers, Coldplay, Adele, Amy Whinehouse, Alicia Keys...
@siddharthjoshi91 i love that you mention coldplay lol. I think modern rock has its place. i like a lot of songs from maroon 5, creed, nickleback, etc. theres a certain sound there. but nothing remotely like Mark Knopfler is liable to come around anymore. music doesnt seem to need these gems because its so easy to compose now with computers. practically anybody can be a one hit wonder. even though I hate screamo and death metal you should check out children of bodom. great guitars there!

Plus we have tons of great recent bands and artists today if you'd only care: the Red hot chili Peppers, Coldplay, Adele, Amy Whinehouse, Alicia Keys...

@toniostyl
hardly any of them is a rock band. Apart from Coldplay who do we have today. The age of rock is dead now and music has gone back to the Dark Ages.
