So can you put Piccolo strings on and still play in standard bass tuning? as in E1, A1, D1, G1. If you can that is so handy :D

i would not recommend that. one or two strings might be ok, but it is harder to tune down an octave with the thinner D and G strings - they go really floppy.

So you find it alright to tune to the low E but the other strings should stay higher?

the A string might be OK as well, but that's as far as I'd go! also, the lowest i'd tune for standard fourths for all the strings would probably be A D G C (tenor bass tuning).

It's great to be trained on a specific instrument, but the skills and techniques can transcend other 4 stringed instruments. :D I however have not had any formal training like in band; I'm "making this up" as I go. he he.

I have read in some other of your videos that you use the D'Addario Piccolo EXL280 strings, which are a very light gauge (20/32/42/52), that I imagine you tune one octave above the ordinary electric bass tuning.

I love how you play and the sound you obtain. You are a source of great inspiration to me. I will try to put the same strings on my bass, adding the V string with a 70 gauge. All the best.

Surely an instrument can be played how every the person playing it likes? its all about freedom of creativity really. For instance people that play tap guitar - you don't really find people say they might as well play a piano.

@GaryNull The technique and approach is very different on a piccolo bass. But more importantly, what does it matter what instrument is used? as long as the sound is right. Listen with your ears, not your eyes.

He sounds a lot better than most of the 6 String bass players, which I can't stand. I have an argument going that "bass players" that are not playing the bass "like a bass", are just bass players that want to be guitarist. If people like this fine, .. but I'm more impressed by hearing the bass shine in the background, . . which is a millions times harder than doing this.

All of you, you must pick up the CD. I highly recommend it, its one of those cds that you can listen to over and over, and its great for listening to while you're doing something. I like it more than Manring's albums personally.

Personally I think Manring's Soliloquy is one of the best albums ever, period, but this one definitely has some of the same qualities.

I can't even imagine how big a compliment it must be for Zander to hear that his stuff is preferred over Manring's :)
