The Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu'alyhi'wasalam said: "Fear Allah regarding women, for they are your assistants. You have the right on them that they do not allow any person whom you dislike to step on your mat. However, if they do that, you are allowed to discipline them lightly. They have a right on you that you provide them with their provision and clothes, in a reasonable manner." (Tafsir Ibn Kathir- most reliable interpretation).

If she does though that would be great! Allah encourages reconcilliation and forgives one who repents because he is All Merciful.

Islam does not consider this abuse nor animal behaviour. This is not seen as a crime either. Again, it is a permission granted by Allah the All merciful himself with the condition that he himself has mentioned. This is not a right nor privilege. It is light so that the wife realises the seriousness of the issue and may consider her actions rather than the husband just telling her of and her not taking it seriously.

This is all conditional to limits .If one transgresses then he has wronged himself. If the wife disobeys her husband then this is permisible. Islam does not tolerate wife beating- there is a difference where marks are left or she is violently harmed .

Narrated Mu'awiyah al-Qushayri: I went to the Apostle of Allah (pbuh) and asked him: "What do you say (command) about our wives?" He replied: "Give them food what you have for yourself, and clothe them by which you clothe yourself, and do not strike her on her face, and do not revile them." they need to be told that what they are doing is wrong. Their husbands will not beat them because this is not of Islam unless of course the husbands are like you.....ignorant . However, if the wife does not listen to her husband then he has the right to tap her lightly, and by tap we mean as as hard as a tooth brush, and we all know how hard that is...
