  • The WSAI is probably from '02 as SAI switched to oldies in January of '03. I remember when they switched.

  • I remember the Tape O Matic. The unit lasted a good twenty years. I tried to fix it a few years back after my sister brought it home but it could not be revived. It still sits in storage. Mom did some rips of records and some family conversations.

  • God I love podcasts and satellite radio. Thanks for reminding me why.

  • @ioph3 I can't help you with a local station, but I have an on line station you might enjoy . They play everything from the 1920's to the early 1980's with about an 8.000 to 10.000 song library. On line just enter KRLI radio, and click listen. It broadcasts with a real DJ announcing the song artist and year popular, and added info about the song. It is very different and you might enjoy it.

  • Who's doing the KCMO jingles? I loved it when it was Jam doing the jingles.

  • I believe it is Reelworld that does the KCMO jingles now... :-(

  • We still have an oldies station here in K,C., it is KCMO oldies 95, actually 94.9. They play late 60's and 70's, and on week ends after 6pm til midnight they play 1950's and early 60's

  • I remember my dad going to Kansas City and telling me he listened to KCMO, however at that time I think it was KCMO AM.

  • Your dad is correct, there still is a KCMO Am 710 talk radio. 710 AM use to be WHB the 50.000 watt top 40 station, then KCMO 810, and WHB 710 switched bands in th 1980's. Now it's WHB 810sports radio, but started out as farm radio, and KCMO 710 AM is talk radio. WHB 710 AM use to be a powerful rock n roll top 40 station like WLS in Chicago, and last was an oldies station, but that ended in the 1980's when it was sold.

  • @maynardcat The Top 40 AM powerhouse in KC was Storz's WHB 710. That was before it Storz sold it and swapped frequencies with KCMO 810. Bryant ribs, Stroud's chicken, Russell Stover's, and WHB. Kansas City is the best!

  • @MichaelJGrant Hi How well I remember that. I grew up with WHB 710 top 40 and was sorry to see it go. I also remember buying the 45's of the latest top hits we heard on WHB 710 at Katz Drug store, and for a real treat a trip to the huge Jenkins Music store downtown at 1217 Walnut. Very fun days. I have two videos posted showing days of the past in Kansas City you might enjoy Just enter Kansas City Maynardcat, and they both should come up.

  • this was when WMJI was a good station. Now their mostly 70s and don't even include any music from the early 60s or late 50s. Its sad really, because they were such a great station. There is no one left around here that plays true oldies. The only one I can think of is 1480AM "cool cat" which I can't pick up on any of my radios.

  • I listened to WMJI from when I was a little kid till I left that area. I remember back in the early 80's WMJI was more current light rock with some oldies played...WHK 1420 AM was the main oldies station. Then around 1988 or so WMJI became all oldies.

The FM oldies station here (KMCM 96.9 FM) is mostly playing 70's and a few 80's oldies too. There are a few stations in the area which feature a network format called the True Oldies Channel which is like how I remember oldies stations were.

  • What brand is that machine? Voice of Music?

  • Yes it is, V-M Voice of Music, Tape-O-Matic model 722.

  • Could you please do a presentation of that reel-to-reel shown at the beginning of the video? Thanks.

  • Yes I can...it is at the Retro Electronics shop. I did a complete restoration job on it, all new capacitors and belts. It is a tube-type unit. I actually have one of my own too but have not restored it yet. I'll try and do a video of it tomorrow.

  • Yes! I'd like to hear both voice and music recording quality. Thanks you.

  • It actually has 3 speeds...1 7/8, 3 3/4 and 7 1/2, I'll try out both voice and music.
