Black Bears are NOT as vicious as we were taught in grade school. Check out Doctor Rogers (He's considered the Jan Goodall of Black Bears) at his website @ bear.org; this man walks with wild black bears. I have learned so much about black bears from this man.
Thank you so much; these black bears have such sleek, gorgeous fur. Black bears are so awesome, such beauties!! I love them; I wished I lived in "bear country".
Thanks for this upload! Awsome footage! Unfortunately for me, wild bears ain't so common to just appear in my yard. But it was really cool to see them just walse around in you yard :p
not to criticise but, DUDE THIS IS NOT A GOOD THING, YOU HAVE WAY TOO MUCH WILD LIFE IN YOUR BACKYARD WAY TOO OFTEN.
the more bears and other wild life get comfortable in your neighborhood and around people, the worse things will get
and to add to it, human food is for people not bears,
the fact that the mother brought her baby cub into your neighborhood is just fortifying the fact that bears are getting way too comfortable around that area
i recommend doing something loud to scare them off
it is not a good thing, the trick is to scare them enough so that they don't wonder around people or populated areas too much, even rural areas like this, because once they do, they become vulnerable to poachers(spelling could be wrong for poauchers)
people food also have a bad affect on wild animals,
the most obvious example for this are squirrels, if squirrels eat too much people food, they start losing their fur
i don't kno of any ill affects for bears, but i'd bet my life there is
Amazing video Jeff! They are so fascinating.. It was wise of you not to talk while outside, you could see how nervous the mother was even just hearing a car pass a long way away. She must be even more alert with an injured cub. Very cute however!
Where were u?...on your back porch?! WOW. Was that YOUR trash that they were rummaging through? Amazing...espec how high they were in those trees. I live in the city so the closest I've come to danger is 7 raccoons hopping onto my back porch going through our trash bag....and skunks...they suck. I shouldve gotten my camera then too...but too sleepy.
Nice video Jeff. I may be wrong, but I think the .357 is ok for the size bear in Pa., but probably not for Grizz or brown bear of Alaska. They came up with the Model 500 for a reason. :)
I personally don't know why you wouldn't be able to... but you may have to have a valid US or State ID... if you plan on looking into that, search for the state's firearm laws. :)
@cutlerylover I don't mean to be a troll or anything but I think you just have to be a US resident to own a firearm not a citizen. I THINK the difference is that a resident just lives there and has a "green card" but a citizen applied. DON'T MEAN TO SOME ACROSS AS RUDE I just THINK you made a small mistake.
@TheIronicBanana I dont see that as a troll comment anyway corrections are always welcome, to be honest Im not sure either way all I know is I am a citizen and buy guns, dont know much more than that on the subject but if thats correct thansk for postign the info
@cutlerylover Ok thanks some youtubers take comments the wrong way. But I just looked it up and you only have to have to have a us adress (I guess a own/rent/live in a home or have a po box??) to own a gun. I think this is because you have to wait 5 years to become a citizen (some exeptions). Fun fact: If you join the army you can get citizen ship in one day!
If you came to the U.S. and got your permanent resident status, you'd be able to buy a gun and in the state of PA, would be allowed to get a concealed carry permit.
If you became a citizen, you'd be able to get a ccw and a gun, no problem, as well.
Hey Jeff, I'm in my last year at High School and then I'm off to college and after the college here in the UK there is a system where if you choose to go on to university after college the government can give you a grant to travel and take a year off and this is one of the places I'm going to go and look into maybe moving when the time comes. Having this kind of environment seems awesome to me, I love the outdoors and this seems like a very nature-filled place
My country sucks on many levels (such as gun laws), but also with bears. They had the first bear in 170 years be shot... Just read the Wikipedia article on "Bear JJ1".
Great vid Jeff, thanks. Is it not possible for a phone call to some vet or wildlife type people something like our RSPCA 'haps to try and capture the cub to get it's foot fixed, or is that just not possible, or not worth the expense etc ? It is a shame if it cant be helped, - People I KNOW, it's a bear, and I know GBUK is chalk and cheese when it comes to wild animals in GBUK and USA, just wondered if something like that existed to help, that's all. Thanks again Jeff, appreciated. *5
thanks, actually I didnt call anhyone because the mother is marked a few times and I fear if they catch it, the mother will be put down, I think its better to let nature take its course and the cub be with the mother for now, the cub was able to climb the tree though so maybes it not as bad as I thought?
Thanks for that Jeff, I was not alluding to you being the one to have called someone, I honestly feel that if anyone would or could do something to help in a situation, you would at the starting line eh. I was just wondering if some form of protection was in place, given that the bears are hunted ( I think ? ) and your safety is important. @ flamedrag18 has posted that the cub should be ok eh. Thanks for the vid Jeff.
I understabnd, actually there is no hunting in my area its an animal sactuary, however if the bear goes back about 10-15 miles into the state forests hunting is allowed at certain times...for the most part black bear stick around close to the houses, I took care of my garbage the best I can but alot of older senior citizens actually feed the bear by me which is illegal but it doesnt stop them, they ahve no idea how bad it is for them since they get dependant on it and will starve if they stop
hi Jeff, pleased to hear you have an animal sanctuary behind you, it might make for some more woods / animals type vid's eh that would be nice. We have some creatures that venture into our town at night, foxes sometimes, probably more often buy at night unnoticed, Munkjack and Roe deer, Red deer, but where I am here, nothing like a 'Dangerous' creature. It is bade to feed them though, as you say dependency follows.
Those are nusence bears the best thing you could have done for there survival would have been to shoot the mom in the ass with some rock salt and install some fear of humans in the bear. The rangers in the parks use dogs and non leathal devices to teach the bears to stay away from homes. If those cubs do not learn a little fear sooner or later some ones child will get hurt or killed
I know that you know and I know that you know that I know, but I'm going to say it anyway: Dude that's CRAZY!. I prefer a Cutlerylover without a wildlife video than no Cutlerylover :(
Fact: Bears can climb faster than they can run. HAHA I had to. Cool video CutlerLover. I appoligize if you explained it, but what are they eating? Your trash? LOL. Take care.
Thanks for posting this video. I live in rural southeastern North Carolina. Most of the land that surrounds me is state forests. I spend a lot of time in the woods. It is a lot of fun to see these animals in their natural habitat. I was born and raised in NYC, first came down south 17 years ago. Black bears are not dangerous unless they are frightened or startled. Its funny that I, now, feel safer in a forest full of bears than I did on the streets of Manhattan.
yup, made some noise 1st and both cubs went up the tree the mother stood on her hind legs and grunted, not loud, but I coudl tell she wasnt messing around, lol no kidding, I immediatly farted and went back inside and waited it out, lol...lmao
oh my god dude i can totaly see this happening in my head .... i laughed so hard i woke up the ol lady she came down stairs like what are you laughing about i caould only point she read it and busted up we both look at each other with tears in our eyes holding our stomaches wow you are awsome keep em coming...... :O
I enjoy and have learned from your vids. I respect you and thank you for all your posts. The reason for the preamble is that I don't want to appear overly critical. I think that you should discourage these bears from feeding on your property, secure garbage and any potential food sources. It can, obviously, be dangerous for you and eventually for them or other people. Black bears generally avoid people. Problems can occur when they loose their natural fear of humans. Just my opinion.
nice video i know it can be dangers but it must be nice to be able to look you you window and see all that wildlife with out driving to a zoo or hunting leases
i think you should call pennsylvania spca.....and tell them that there was a black bear that was injured and maybe they could of fixed him...i feel so bad
Mother bears are suicidally protective of their cubs. If she saw you as a threat, there is nothing short of killing her you could do to stop her from tearing you apart.
It's a black bear, generally timid. Much more of a flight instinct than a fight instinct, however yes because of the cubs she will fight you. A bear is very resistant to handgun rounds and a .357 would be a bit on the light side. Jeff said he had his glock .45 with him, and the retort of the gunshot would probably be more of a deterrent for the mother than the bullet itself. Getting closer to winter she would be putting on fat, which would likely stop the round before it reached any organs.
Of course I don't take offence, you are entitled to your opinion, however wrong it may be. A .357 slug will generally ricochet off a bear skull due to the extreme slop inherent in their bone structure as well as the flat surface of most pistol rounds.
how do you know? have you shot a bear with a 357 mag? especcially in the head/neck at close range? im not saying youre wrong im just saying you better know before you act like you do
i have shot a bear in the head with a .357 mag at close range... when deer hunting i shot it with my rifle and i had to finish it off with my pistol and it made a 1 inch hole in its head and on the other side like a 4 inch hole
wow...i wish i could live in a place like that but i dont. i live in los angeles and all i see outside my window are bums looking around my trash cans.
and 2 days ago there was a black bear in the mall who got inside some how it was funny with the people going o my god its a bear and the bear was like yo whats up people and just walking around :p
I had a friend that got between a mother black bear and her cubs said he crapped him self when he saw what happend and the bear was like what you looking at and just waited for teh cub then walked off.. Ive had another friend with a diffrent bear get out of his car and a bear charged him and he ran back inside the car because the cub was just close..

haha now u wish u never sold your .357 mag lol... just incase it sees you and charges(because of the cubs)
cheese22092 2 years ago
It's a black bear, generally timid. Much more of a flight instinct than a fight instinct, however yes because of the cubs she will fight you. A bear is very resistant to handgun rounds and a .357 would be a bit on the light side. Jeff said he had his glock .45 with him, and the retort of the gunshot would probably be more of a deterrent for the mother than the bullet itself. Getting closer to winter she would be putting on fat, which would likely stop the round before it reached any organs.

no offense or anything but your retarded..... a .357 mag will FCK A BEAR UP especially if you shoot it in the head/neck at close range like he is
cheese22092 2 years ago
Of course I don't take offence, you are entitled to your opinion, however wrong it may be. A .357 slug will generally ricochet off a bear skull due to the extreme slop inherent in their bone structure as well as the flat surface of most pistol rounds.

how do you know? have you shot a bear with a 357 mag? especcially in the head/neck at close range? im not saying youre wrong im just saying you better know before you act like you do

i have shot a bear in the head with a .357 mag at close range... when deer hunting i shot it with my rifle and i had to finish it off with my pistol and it made a 1 inch hole in its head and on the other side like a 4 inch hole
cheese22092 2 years ago
well i will have to take your word for it. in fact thats kinda what i expected

At my friends house out in Front Royal young bears often visit the porch. It can get hairy when the dogs are out though.
