Wow, thats crazy. I'm a teen and I wear colored contacts from my local beauty supply store all the time. I don't have any cleaning solution so i usually just clean my with tap water too. To think something like this could cost me my eyesight. o.O Thanks. This video was very informing.
When you go to a place selling contacts and they don't give you good information about them you run. They told this girl to clean with tap water. NEVER. Don't ever do that. Tap water has chemicals and it's non-sterile. And don't ever sleep in them either. Personally I think it's her fault because she didn't do her "homework" before buying something that was going on an irreplaceable organ.
I got my eye contacts fr coametics plus! But they gave me all instructions on how to care for them! Explain that u should never clean the cases with tap water or saliva or sleep in them and regularly wash the cases! And clean your contacts with solution
The contact itself is not what gave her the infection,it her cleaning it with Tap water and sleeping with it which gave bacteria more than enough time to breed and infect her eye.This can happen with any contact if its not cleaned with Solution.NEVER subsitute solution with Tap water as the water contains lead and many harmful bacteria to the eye!!!

I think it was because she let them sit in tap water and she cleaned them with tap water, plus she slept in them after they were in tap water. I have colored contacts and I let them sit in a solution and I never sleep in them.
Often times it doesn't have to do anything with being insecure, to change your look for a day or two. It is fun even for an adult. I have thought about them in beauty supply store, but I also thought about how safe it would be without a prescription. That only comes from experience. Most beauty supplies in the hood are owned by others. They are just there to make money and go home. I pray for this young lady!

Now this is something for to account for, and it is true that many people do not account for this, and that is this girl will not need a cornea transplant to restore her sight, because of the fact that she can be cured with the genetic makeup that is from her own body! Now it is only right to say that with all of what can be done involving both RNA/DNA reconstruction that both portions of an eye, as well as a full eye can be grown so this is important to account for! Regenerating eyes possible!
The reason why this happened was because someone wanted to make a CHEAP buck and sell crappy contact lenses probably without caring about the negative health effects it could cause.

@kiapoohbaby020 Cosmetic contacts for the purposes of copying trends, she might be young for, but prescription contacts, not so much. I've had mine since 6th grade. I've fallen asleep with mine in. Not the most comfy, but it happens. There are also contacts made for monthly use.

Well If I was her I would've done some research before I bought the contacts. Btw I wear color lenses and I know How to take care of them all. Im sure on the box it tells you how to keep your contacts clean and stuff. After you take your contacts out of the bottles you put them in the case and soak them in new contact solution for 24 hours. Whenever you wear them you have to empty out the solution in your contact and put in fresh solution. When you put your lenses back in the case you have to c
o hell naw. yea i bought contacts once and when i took them off they made my vision blurry. it took like 2 weeks for my vision to get back to normal....ppl just be happy w/ what you got you dont need to change your looks
I'm actually 14 and I've been wanting colored contacts for a really long time. But I'm not at all like the girl you're talking about. I would never just go to a beauty store and purchase a pair of contacts and put them in my eyes. I've done plenty of research on how to take care of them and so on.
At the age of 14 I wasn't looking for no colored eyes. Parents look at what your child does. I don't know why you are surprise to see contacts at beauty supply store. You don't need a prescription for NON-presribe contacts. If she'd just ask her parents how to take care of them...maybe she wouldn't be going thru this. (not saying it's her fault)

OMG, I see she gets the self-hate from her mom. Why do black people feel this need to copy white people. Leave the blond hair and the blue eyes to them. Love your natural colored eyes enough not to fucked them up trying to change them. Yet, I have seen groups of black girls, yes groups, of black girls with wigs & weaves that look like white girl hair, even in blonde, with blue contacts on. Most white girls look like white girls. They don't copy our hair at all. Please don't tell me about some rare person you saw on the subway. White people in general aren't trying to copy our looks.

I don't think it's about "accepting your lovely features and stuff". I mean i love my brown eyes too, but i like a change too! But yes some kids have less self esteem and try to adapt themselves to celebs which is a shame. But then again how come the parents did not know she couldn't sleep with it? I too remember buying them BOT 15 years ago and yes i would purchase mine from a beauty supply store in the hood or where ever and no I was not given proper instructions. but being that i use to wear prescription lenses prior, i knew to purchase the solutions lastly I couldnt agree with you more .. at 14 what does any of us know ..so many insecurities. even as a 30 something I my self, I still have my own little insecurities let a lone a 14 year old girl so much to be said not enough space

I feel sorry for her but I think you are not supposed to go to sleep with contacts on because of REM Sleep Rapid Eye Movement that occurs when you are dreaming not to mention your eyelids are closed and that is how your cornea can get scratched

no wonder you don't clean them with tap water as it contains bacteria. she didn't use them correctly and that's the typical outcome. I recently purchased coloured contact lenses as did my friend. As I watched I remember doing the same thing as the young girl(fallen asleep wit the colored contacts in) these were ones that were not fitted. And for days I basically had to keep my eyes close i did see a doctor and did damage my eyes real bad but years before that I had the fitted ones and no problems. I serious believe it the u go cheat u get cheat or u learn from it u may come out unharmed.
i got colored contact for my birthday last year i went with my mom and i bought then with my own money i live in upstate new york in order to buy the contact they do an eye exam to see if you vision is well enough for them and you have to have parental consent to buy them plus they tell you not to put water or anything on them but solution for soft contacts so its not this girls fault that she got this infection the person who sold them to her should have told her to be cautios with them

@cutistdanna My guess would be that she did not purposely fall asleep with them in. I wear perscription contacts and i've accidently fallen asleep in then. I now have contacts that can be wore to bed. Anyways falling asleep in contacts would not normaly give any problems unless you do it constantly or they were poor quality.
You cannot use tap water to clean them or sleep in them! Tap water has bacteria in it! And even if she had cleaning solution she would probably be blind anyway because the contacts are so cheap and unsafe and non prescription. You cant even drop it on the floor and even if you clean it with the solution bacteria might still not be killed. My dads coworker almost went blind by dropping his contact on the floor, cleaning it and it still had bacteria on it. Be careful, and buy them from a eye care
Contacts are no joke, I use prescription contacts (not colored), and it feels sooo good to not wear them. I honestly prefer glasses over contacts because there more comfortable. Even prescribed contacts can mess your eye up, I had to have surgery on my right eye because of my contacts; I didn't go blind or anything(thank god), but that surgery alone(minor surgery) hurt A LOT! Just be careful with contacts in general people.

basic warnings - don't share lenses - always use proper cleaning and storage solution - wash hands thoroughly with regular NOT antibacterial soap and a nail brush prior to insertion and removal - check for rip & tears - use rewetting drops not spit - if lenses look like a perfect fit and don't slide at all they're too tight remove and don't wear - if lenses slide around constantly they're too loose remove and don't wear

this is kinda BS. another young girl went to a beauty store and bought colored contacts. posted a review on youtube. she was just a kid too but she bought solution and a case. she wasn't told to. she just didn't go against her own instincts. the girl who's injured went against her own instincts. stupid? well, kinda. whenever you go against your gut...bad things happen.

I only wear them for school which is 7 hours and don't wear them again until the next day. I don't wear them when i don't have school either so i don't really wear them much.

I went to my opticians to get normal prescription lenses and was nearly turned down for them cause of the damages wear coloured contact lenses had done to my eyes. I'd worn them maybe 5 times in a year. You've got to be careful.

It isn't the girl that people should be looking at with scorn, SHE didn't know any better. The store she bought them from is very irresponsible. She asked them about proper cleaning instructions and they just said "Oh, water will work." I can say from experience that so much as cleaning them with water/storing them in it can hurt your eyes. I did that once and it felt like there were little rocks in the contacts. I just wish there was a better set of restrictions as to who can sell the lenses.

da only problem i had wit my contactz iz dat one of em dried out while it waz still in my eye & it split from it bein so dry....but otha than dat i aint slept in em nor left dem in 4 a long amount of time (i mostly wore dem durin my skool hourz) i learned dat when i wear contactz i MUST apply solution 2 em thru out da day 2 moisten em up while dey still in my eye

Honestly I do feel bad for the girl but even being 14 most know to do the research. I bought three pair of contacts from a beauty supply store (mainly for Halloween) but I did research ahead of time. Of course the lady who sold me mines also gave the solution and told me be sure to buy eye drops since they can irritate and dry your eyes out. I've slept in mine accidentally but I never had a problem. Just wash your hands before handling them and use solution very very often.
I understand that, but you can't go blaming your mistakes and your child mistakes on stores and manufactures. Contacts been out in beauty supply stores for years! I appreciate her coming out with her story trying to warn people that contacts could make you blind, but her mom shouldn't blame anyone but herself because she had to see her daughter wearing them and she should have had that talk then and there about the harm it could do.

I can't relate because when I was 14 I was an oddball. I wasn't trying to be a part of the in crowd and I thought people who wanted to be were lame. Contacts are hilarious. I just found your channel the other day and I love it. I totally agree with what you are saying. When I was 14, or just my teens in general, I was self conscious about so many things. At that age you just want to fit in, and when you don't, you'll do anything to change that. Peer pressure is a very powerful thing, and for someone with low self esteem, as most teenagers are, it can lead you to change yourself in ways that other people might think are silly, but that teenagers do anyway.
Yes , im not surprised at all that they dont ask for a prescription. I personally don't think the news goiing undercover really proved anything. Selling them w/o a prescription is not illegal everywhere or in every state. I think it's wrong for ppl to judge that little girl for not knowing any better. I remember being that age...that's around the age I was wearing colored contacts. I used to sleep with them for a couple of nights without taking them out, I didn't care for them properly at all. LOL 14 year olds are a little nieve and a little irresponsible. Contacts should def be outlawed from the beauty supply store...that's not safe. I used to wear grey contacts back in jr. high...they were prescriptions (FreshLook), legit, and safe. I've reverted back to glasses for the past couple years, but def going to get contacts in the near future again (gray again or clear). But I would never buy them from a place like that. You don't know if those things passed any type of inspection.
I wish people would stop screaming "self hate" just because black people want to try something different...rather it be hair dye, colored contacts, weaves, wigs, etc. Yes, there are some genuine people out there who are self hating...but not all. I didn't wear grey contacts because I wanted to be white. I got them because my young nephew at the time was born with the lightest, most beautiful grey eyes (they turned hazel now) and I loved them. My dad's eyes are hazel but sometime appear grey.

Now this is something for to account for, and it is true that many people do not account for this, and that is this girl will not need a cornea transplant to restore her sight, because of the fact that she can be cured with the genetic makeup that is from her own body! Now it is only right to say that with all of what can be done involving both RNA/DNA reconstruction that both portions of an eye, as well as a full eye can be grown so this is important to account for! Regenerating eyes possible!

Why she thought it was a good idea to buy $20 contacts from a beauty supply store with no prescription is beyond me, though....

Well If I was her I would've done some research before I bought the contacts. Btw I wear color lenses and I know How to take care of them all. Im sure on the box it tells you how to keep your contacts clean and stuff. After you take your contacts out of the bottles you put them in the case and soak them in new contact solution for 24 hours. I'm actually 14 and I've been wanting colored contacts for a really long time. But I'm not at all like the girl you're talking about. I would never just go to a beauty store and purchase a pair of contacts and put them in my eyes. I've done plenty of research on how to take care of them and so on.

At the age of 14 I wasn't looking for no colored eyes. Parents look at what your child does. I don't know why you are surprise to see contacts at beauty supply store. I don't think it's about "accepting your lovely features and stuff". I mean i love my brown eyes too, but i like a change too! But yes some kids have less self esteem and try to adapt themselves to celebs which is a shame. But then again how come the parents did not know she couldn't sleep with it? I too remember buying them BOT 15 years ago and yes i would purchase mine from a beauty supply store in the hood or where ever and no I was not given proper instructions. but being that i use to wear prescription lenses prior, i knew to purchase the solutions lastly I couldnt agree with you more .. at 14 what does any of us know ..so many insecurities. even as a 30 something I my self, I still have my own little insecurities let a lone a 14 year old girl so much to be said not enough space

Im supposed to get colored contacts today because my birthday is coming up. I honestly do not think that is this girls fault because she is only 14 and doesnt even know any better. no wonder you don't clean them with tap water as it contains bacteria. she didn't use them correctly and that's the typical outcome. I recently purchased coloured contact lenses as did my friend. You must you a specific cleaning solution , it's all very 'specific' with the instructions on what to do and what not to do. it's horrible that this caused her to lose eye sight because that I'd blame the contacts for having no instructions...

As I watched I remember doing the same thing as the young girl(fallen asleep wit the colored contacts in) these were ones that were not fitted. And for days I basically had to keep my eyes close i did see a doctor and did damage my eyes real bad but years before that I had the fitted ones and no problems. i got colored contact for my birthday last year i went with my mom and i bought then with my own money i live in upstate new york in order to buy the contact they do an eye exam to see if you vision is well enough for them and you have to have parental consent to buy them plus they tell you not to put water or anything on them but solution for soft contacts so its not this girls fault that she got this infection the person who sold them to her should have told her to be cautios with them

I now have contacts that can be wore to bed. Anyways falling asleep in contacts would not normaly give any problems unless you do it constantly or they were poor quality.

You cannot use tap water to clean them or sleep in them! Tap water has bacteria in it! And even if she had cleaning solution she would probably be blind anyway because the contacts are so cheap and unsafe and non prescription. You cant even drop it on the floor and even if you clean it with the solution bacteria might still not be killed. My dads coworker almost went blind by dropping his contact on the floor, cleaning it and it still had bacteria on it. Be careful, and buy them from a eye care

Contacts are no joke, I use prescription contacts (not colored), and it feels sooo good to not wear them. I honestly prefer glasses over contacts because there more comfortable. Even prescribed contacts can mess your eye up, I had to have surgery on my right eye because of my contacts; I didn't go blind or anything(thank god), but that surgery alone(minor surgery) hurt A LOT! Just be careful with contacts in general people.

basic warnings - don't share lenses - always use proper cleaning and storage solution - wash hands thoroughly with regular NOT antibacterial soap and a nail brush prior to insertion and removal - check for rip & tears - use rewetting drops not spit - if lenses look like a perfect fit and don't slide at all they're too tight remove and don't wear - if lenses slide around constantly they're too loose remove and don't wear

Her dumb ass should have known that colored contacts are cosmetic and NOT like normal soft lenses. It's not recommended to use colored contacts for over 8 hours.

It isn't the girl that people should be looking at with scorn, SHE didn't know any better. The store she bought them from is very irresponsible. She asked them about proper cleaning instructions and they just said "Oh, water will work." I can say from experience that so much as cleaning them with water/storing them in it can hurt your eyes. I did that once and it felt like there were little rocks in the contacts. I just wish there was a better set of restrictions as to who can sell the lenses.

I understand what u are saying but the little girl did bring this on herself. When I was her age I wore color contacts BUT prescription and I asked all the questions about them that I needed to. There is no excuse for being naive. It is very unfortunate what happened to her as consequence.

Honestly I do feel bad for the girl but even being 14 most know to do the research. I bought three pair of contacts from a beauty supply store (mainly for Halloween) but I did research ahead of time. Of course the lady who sold me mines also gave the solution and told me be sure to buy eye drops since they can irritate and dry your eyes out. I've slept in mine accidentally but I never had a problem. Just wash your hands before handling them and use solution very very often.

wow this is crazy i bought contacts when i was her age but luckily my brother gave me the knowledge on what to do and what not to do with contacts i think that if she had the information about contacts then this probably wouldn't have happened its the stores fault

I can't relate because when I was 14 I was an oddball. I wasn't trying to be a part of the in crowd and I thought people who wanted to be were lame. Contacts are hilarious. Why are on earth do people wear them? OK I see if you need them for better vision but walking about with color contacts when you're the same color as Flava Flav or Asian or what have you is a mess. You don't look hot. You look foolish like an Elephant wearing a dress.

@LVishere omg i was just like you when i was at school lol. i didnt care what people thought of me! i was not trying to be like everything and wasnt with the in crowd or jumping on the bangwagon of whats supposed to be hot at that moment. i was never like that. i actually loved being different and actually when people thought i was awkward i thought thank you very much

@LVishere We don't wear color contacts to fit people's narrow standards of beauty- if that was my goal in life I'd be an anorexic twig or roidhead. We do it to look unique, different and interesting. It's called having fun in life and trying something new, the same reason people dye their hair. 90% of the world have brown eyes, it get's boring after a while.

I don't judge her but if i was her parents would be angry at the cashier- she just wasn't old nor wise enough to understand the implications and they lied to her. at least tell the poor kid she is not to sleep to them...

I just found your channel the other day and I love it. I totally agree with what you are saying. When I was 14, or just my teens in general, I was self conscious about so many things. At that age you just want to fit in, and when you don't, you'll do anything to change that. Peer pressure is a very powerful thing, and for someone with low self esteem, as most teenagers are, it can lead you to change yourself in ways that other people might think are silly, but that teenagers do anyway.

Yes , im not surprised at all that they dont ask for a prescription. I personally don't think the news goiing undercover really proved anything. Selling them w/o a prescription is not illegal everywhere or in every state. And yes woman (and men) go through these stages at a young age and want to imitate what they see on TV, however it doesn't necessarily make it self hate. ?If that's the case , hair dying, straightening, fake nails, weaves etc is self hatred.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I think your vlog is great, but you need to get a new mic, I get a headache from that sound. Apart from that I totally agree with you, you shouldn't get contacts at a beauty supply store. Here in Austria you get them only from an optometrist.

I think it's wrong for ppl to judge that little girl for not knowing any better. I remember being that age...that's around the age I was wearing colored contacts. I used to sleep with them for a couple of nights without taking them out, I didn't care for them properly at all. LOL 14 year olds are a little nieve and a little irresponsible. After all, you're still a CHILD at that age and genuinely don't know any better. Don't judge her so harshly...we were all there once.

girl i didnt know that you could get those at a beauty supply store....thats ridiculous and sad. my heart goes out to that girl. im 19 and i wear regular contacts because i have an astigmatism and my eyesight is horrible. OHHH and i would love it if you do a video about circle contacts they are contacts that are way bigger than the average contact and they arent FDA approved..people be ordering them overseas. the contacts are supposed to make your eyes look really big like cartoon eyes

Contacts should def be outlawed from the beauty supply store...that's not safe. I used to wear grey contacts back in jr. high...they were prescriptions (FreshLook), legit, and safe. I've reverted back to glasses for the past couple years, but def going to get contacts in the near future again (gray again or clear). But I would never buy them from a place like that. You don't know if those things passed any type of inspection.

I wish people would stop screaming "self hate" just because black people want to try something different...rather it be hair dye, colored contacts, weaves, wigs, etc. Yes, there are some genuine people out there who are self hating...but not all. I didn't wear grey contacts because I wanted to be white. I got them because my young nephew at the time was born with the lightest, most beautiful grey eyes (they turned hazel now) and I loved them. My dad's eyes are hazel but sometime appear grey.

(cont) So I chose grey because 1) I liked the color on my nephew and my dad and 2) at the time (1999-2000) everyone had hazel already and I wanted something different. I started rocking the grey before everybody else...lol. But people really need to stop screaming "SELF HATE" just because a black person wants to try something different. Yes, I love my brown eyes but I also like the way grey looks on me too. The same thing with hair length and color...it's not always that serious.

@cucubananas Yea, I look at those things as accessories. True, there are some people who alter their appearance so drastically because they do hate themselves. But for the rest of us out here who wear those things just to change it up every once in a while doesn't mean we hate ourselves! LOL I don't wear weaves/wigs...but for those who do...I don't look at them and think they want to be white...I think they just want to try something new. Nothing wrong with that.
