  • might be a road gp-9 chassie, gp-7 you'd be able to tell the difference... i still dont see the cab.

  • no, that maybe a gp-7 chassie, but it has no cab its a powered slug

  • indeed was very rare , lucky catch even tough in second shoot first engine was left behind

  • Can some one explain what is so weird about this and how it is bad for the crew, I don't know much about the different companies that run there.

  • @FirekidE62 The lead locomotive was built in 1951. It was rare to get a locomotive that old on the front of a high speed double stack train. The only thing the crew probably wasn't happy about was the visability of looking down the side of the long hood. Not really bad! But sure a pain in the butt. Thanks for watching...

  • @1jackdk I have pics from last year and a video of a NS main line high speed freight on toledo east west movin attracks speed throwin smoke and anything else it could into the air. I was amazed to see a old GP38-2 high nose NS runnin in front of two GP60s and another geep in the year 2011. It was way way cool to see. The crew did not look happy at all! it has to be a pain in the but getting inan dout of those old high hoods. short nose. short steps. think the engine was bad though.

  • @ussoldierrail Are those SD60s? behind it. mabey the power was not enough. Sorry i did not read the description to interested in your vid. Mabye u could sell them to like green frog or penn trex? I would buy everyone and as I said in another vidoe i will donate all of my vids to you becuse you are a hounorable man and legit. Not many would put up what you do with out deciding to sell. We are all lucky to have u in our community. thanks a million times over brother

  • @ussoldierrail I know the crew be all that happy! Imagine the days, not all that long ago, N&W and early NS opperated their locomotives long hood forward. Even the newer low nose units where long hood. At least they had a little larger window than a steam locomotive! Those poor guys had to look down that long barrel. Been checking some of ur remarks. Was getting a big kick out of them. Thanks for the complements also. Stay safe, and God bless you and your son

  • @1jackdk Let me know if you want any of my vids. I can send them to you some how free. No charge brother. Also if you would like we can arrnage if you come to northwest ohio to take you on a hell of a fun time rail fanning and then eating some good food. GOD BLESS

  • i think that thegp7 are just UP heritage locos.

  • I think everyone is getting the gist here. Not the expert on this, but recall from railroading articles in Trains and Progressive Rail many years ago that CNW had a very unique cab signal system in the chicago area, and all run through power had to be lead by a CNW unit in order to run into Chicago. run through power wasn't as prevalent in the 50's when installed as it eventually became in the late 80s and beyond....

    Great video as always Jack!

  • Nice GP7!

  • And long hood forward daboot....AWESOME vid DUDE!!

  • Damn! A Geep 7 on the lead!!! Imagine seeing 4 of them leading a stack train!!!! and from Omaha to Chicago!!!!

  • WOW AMAZING THE CREW MUST HAVE HATED THAT TRIP LOL.....

  • @fishworldhacker I'm SURE it wasn't tops on their list! LOL

  • @1jackdk WOW YOU REPLY FASTER THAN I THOUGH YOU WOULD LOVE ALL THE VIDS YOU GOT. :D

  • @fishworldhacker Oh yahhh! I don't mess around! LOL. Glad you enjoy the vids! I try to put one up everyday. I do east for about a week then west about a week, new and old. Try to keep everyones interest peaked...

  • @fishworldhacker YES they did.

I was a switchman for the CNW out of butler yard near milwaukee,wi and i've had the "honor'" of riding one of those things on a pool turn out of adams ,wi.

If they stay at about 15 to 20 MPH,the ride ain't bad.

Over 20 mph and it's like riding on a unicycle during an earthquake.

You don't appreciate the ride of the wide cabs until you ride a geep at 50 mph.

That was 94 and my back molars are still loose.

    Nice vid

  • @25mfd i dont think you understood what i was saying i said the crew must have hated the trip becuase gp7's are old and bounce a lot espeacially going that fast so they mus've hated the whole trip in that thing....

  • @fishworldhacker That's EXACTLY what i was saying in my comments.

I rode one of those geeps at high speeds and it throws you around.

    Very uncomfortable.

  • @fishworldhacker NICE lol bet ya need a neck brace after that huh lol

  • Wow, that sure is a great catch

  • WOW!!! That is a SICK catch indeed, well done!!!

  • Great catch!

  • well that's different

  • u guys r all retarded jeez!! i live there and u must not know much about trains because about 5 times a day a stack train jjust like that only way bigger comes through with the same engine its not wierd crazy or new! but if u want a good video, take a vid of all the graffiti on the coal tower and name the video nelson illinois coal tower graffiti all my buddys will watch it lol

  • I guess the veteran GP7 was showing the rookie SD60Ms how its done

  • It's amazing to see how the GP7 is dwarfed by the modern SDs. Very awesome!

  • Very cool. This was on THE day I was born! Thanks for posting.

  • heck of a catch.

  • Cool, nice vid!

  • This is guess, but I would have to assume the cab signals on the lead unit crapped out, and being a hotter move (stack train), they used the first available engine with working cab signals to get it across the relatively short trip into Chicago.

  • @UPTRAIN That's what I'm thinking too.The head end power got set out due to a Bad/Order and they just kept on highballing..

  • @UPTRAIN I think you've got it. CNW cab signals have made for some strange lashups over the years. The strangest were around the Great Flood of 1993, when detouring Amtrak CZ's used borrowed Metra E9s equipped with CNW cab signals as leaders, and detouring freights used anything that could move - IE GP7s. I wonder how many (if any) of these pinch-hit leaders were on line and providing power, or if most were just isolated and used as a defacto cab car.

  • Nice video man!!!

  • Yea, the two other units seem like "Get the hell outta our way."

  • Maybe somebody left the GP7 on the main, and the stack train pushed it out of the way hahahaha!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TMandN With the look of the size of the units behind it! It looks like its being pushed. LOL

  • @1jackdk If only we knew what they were thinking...

  • Cool video, reminds me of something I saw friday here, 2 class 48's (950 hp) leading a class 81 (3000 hp) through town, last time class 48's were in the area was about 15 years ago !!!

  • @graememg Nice! I hope you got a picture or a video of that! It might have been a one time deal... Take care...

  • Thanks you, Videos very nice,

  • NICE!

  • AWESOME CATCH!!!

  • If I could like this video a million times I would. 5*****
