RROD is mostly a problem with the PCB the GPU sits on coming unsoldered, not necessarily the GPU itself. and hopefully ATI would fix the problem if it really was the GPU only.

It's simple, if you want raw power and DX11, get the 5870...

if you want to play games in 3D, and have DX11 (and possibly better performance) then wait to see what Nvidia has to offer.

besides Nvidia says that their DX11 card will also cut down the work of the CPU by offloading it onto the GPU, becoming a GPU/CPU, and giving you better performance, so it may end up destroying this card...We'll have to wait and see. :-)

I'm not saying it will, but it's very possible, based on what they said.

You know, this card was the first confirmed to support Direct X 11, nvidia said there GTX 285 and 295 now also work with DX 11 now also. But here's the thing I see, Nvidia still uses GDDR3 in every single one of there cards, and ATI uses GDDR5 which runs it's memory faster to the processor to calculate more graphics on your screen. ATI has always won the war despite what PC magazines say, ATI still has the only cards with GDDR5 memory.

Sorry but you need to check the hardwire review sites, the single 5870 is in some bench even faster and sometimes a bit slower and its only a single Gpu the 295 is Double Gpu on 1 printboard.

Also this 5870 usses way less power then the 295 so next time dont talk crap first check the review websites.

I lol'd. It's just 3D glasses. There is nothing to it. I know your mad that your NVIDIA was beaten to DX11 and they are still struggling on their prototype but there is no need to take it out on NVIDIA's competition. Performing operations of the CPU on the GPU makes the GPU slower. Remember, when it comes to gaming the GPU plays an important role. More important than the CPU unless the game is CPU intense, say a simulation. You can use this Dx11 as a CPU as well so there is nothing different.

You would be referring to AMD Fusion then. A CPU merged with the GPU. It's rather useless in a gaming perspective. Having code run on a GPU will bring negative performance much in the way PhysX causes slower GPU performs but eases the CPU's load so it can process the program faster. There is still a negative decrease in performance. The only way to not have a decrease in GPU performance is to have the code running on a seperate area of the GPU. IE: Fusion. Yes, it's useless 3D glasses.

It's a second-rate technology that halves the frame rate of your game in order to generate two different images. One for each eye. This creates an illusion of 3D. Overall it isn't that impressive.

No, I jumped off the NVIDIA train a while back and I don't see anything fascinating about 3D. It's just something to rake some extra cash in. It's rather expensive and isn't all that important. It's kind of like having multiple speakers surrounding you. An enthusiast effect that matters little but costs a lot. When you see AMD/ATI you think price to performance. The goal is to get the best performance with the least money.

Usually ATI cards have better effects ( due to the driver options ) while NVIDIA cards priorizes performance, or at least thats what i heard lol.

The only advantage of nvidia by now seems to be the PhysX, but still ATI cards are cheaper so they make for it. The problem of NVIDIA to me is that its too much advertising...

But well, about buying a NVIDIA/ATI card it depends on the price range you wanna expend and how much is it in where you can get, but both will satisfy n1

the advantages of the Nvidia cards would be Physx, and 3D Vision, with great performance. ATI right now offers DX11 of course, but really to me 3D gaming is more important, and I'm not talking about 3D how most people see 3D, most people when I say 3D they say...

From what I have read it is nothing much than another 3D solution. It's well put together so it is easier for beginners to function but if I wanted 3D I could go for the Zalman solution and still keep my ATI Radeon 4870. But I still have no interests in 3D.

The only thing I dislike about the eyefinity is the monitors. If there was ever a removable frames for monitors, the eyefinity would look simply amazing without having the monitor frames in your way, other then that, it's pretty cool.

Your case airflow must suck pretty hard for the 4870 to idle at 70C... even with the reference cooler.

Anyway, according to reviews, the 5800-series cooler is supposed to be very good.

Nah ive used 3 cases with this card, and all my friends and ive read quite a bit on the forums. Its only the original ATi and older sapphire coolers that do it. I have a 2nd one in crossfire and it uses the new sapphire coolers, which idle at 50~ :)
