  • holy shit i better go get me a genesis

  • Comment removed

  • SNES isn't "fast" ? Sega obviously never played F-Zero or Sparkster...

  • There's another version of this ad with the Model 1 Genesis. wtcvidman has it.

  • It's ironic in a way that they used Super Mario Kart as their game of choice to burn Nintendo with, since it was actually pretty cutting-edge then, technologically and graphically-wise, with all the mode7 stuff and that, which the Genesis didn't really have back then.

  • So what's blast processing? a thingie that makes games go faster. Is also a lie.

  • Damn processing why must u be so blast - AVGN

  • Super Nintendo has Mode 7. Sega Genesis doesn't. So what does Mode 7 do? 3D action! [shows Pilotwings clip] Futuristic Racing! [shows F-Zero clip] And what if you don't have Mode 7? [shows Sonic 3 special stage clip]

  • @RandomAnimations27 Good demostration buddy!

    *Buys Sonic 3*

  • @SantuXD6 I used that example because I didn't like the Sonic 3 special stages.

  • @RandomAnimations27 WAHT THE FUCKING HELL DID YOU JUST SA- Wait, calm down, deep breath... That better. I disagree with you, I liked the challenge and the music.

  • @RandomAnimations27 Most of the SNES's truly 3D games (Starfox) had special chips to handle the 3D that were very expensive. The SNES alone could process some primitive 3D effects, but it was nothing incredible. They did release a special chip for the Genesis that processed 3D, but it was incredibly expensive. Really, the highlight of both consoles was their 2D anyway, not what incredibly primitive 3D they could crap out.

  • (insert long ass speach about blast Processing being a marketing strategy)

  • Played many of hours on goldeneye ,mario, wave race and Pilot wings 64 on this system. good times. I miss them

  • @coldbrewbeer this isnt the n64 bro

  • @LuckyCharms432 yeah..wow I dont even remember typing that. I'm pretty sure i was drunk.

  • @coldbrewbeer or very drunk it's not good drinking wine before christmas bro ;)

  • I find it offensive that SEGA keep taking NINTENDO and then ruin it to the ground!!!

SNES wasn't build for those games, and if there where 2 the same games, SNES did it better!!!

  • @bassie52 Luckily, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft doesn't do Commercial like that anymore seriously it's just a lack of fair play Sega wanted to be the number one, but they did all wrong by putting all their effort on the console itself instead of the Games in result: Not many high Quality games.

  • Wish my PS3 had enough blast processing for fantastic games like Halo.

  • I saw this as an advertisement for Super Mario Kart.

  • And they use mario kart as the comparison game..lmao

  • I can't believe they used Super Mario Kart one of the best games on the SNES as an example to bash them is pretty stupid and terrible lol

  • I think Sega is the one who ended up getting blasted in the ass.

  • Can you imagine the reaction if either Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft we're to make an identical ad to this today? If the tantrums online these days are any indication we'd anticipate a global spate of rage aneurysms from fanboys far and wide.

  • @terencewoelke Wow. That was the sorriest use of plaigerism to sound smart I've ever seen.

    Good job buddy.

  • Lol SNES still had mode 7, and much more quality games.

  • Slow and steady wins the race...and they did.

  • Press 9 lmao

  • Where's my hd?

  • Today Commercials like this would be forbidden.

  • blast processing is my favorite kind of processing

  • it,s actualy fun that they compared their sonic game with mariokart on snes, xince mario kart used the dsp chip for improved mode7 and to increase speed, but even with that speed, it was still slow,

sure the snes has better graphics & sound capabilities then the genesis, but today peoples talk about speed, not about graphics & sound annymore.

if we buy an new pc,laptop, tabled,or mobilephone, today we do,nt wurry us about those graphics & sound wich is allready perfect, but 1 thing speed!!

  • Did...did they just dis Mario Kart? No wonder they failed.

  • @quiggibub Nope! Sega prevailed in the 16-bit market.

  • @GeneStarwind09 Only in Europe and South America.

  • @CODMarioWarfare Which is a pretty large market to succeed in and you can Australasia to Sega's list as well

  • @StephenAlexWalker Well, Nintendo had Japan, America, and ultimately the world.

  • @CODMarioWarfare Then they lost it all

  • @StephenAlexWalker As if SEGA had anything after the fourth generation. Dreamcast was successful until Sony killed it. Nintendo's lucky they made the CD era out alive. If N64 was less popular (like the Saturn) they'd be dead.

  • @CODMarioWarfare 4th Generation? They never had anything after the Mega Drive both the Saturn and the Dreamcast were huge failures and Sony pretty much massacred Nintendo in the mid to late '90's despite inferior technology and a game library that wasn't in the 64's league but oh yes they remembered to actually advertise their products.

  • @StephenAlexWalker 4th generation was the SNES & Genesis era. Dreamcast did well until PS2 was announced. If the N64 was any less popular, Nintendo wouldn't be making systems anymore, much like SEGA. Why don't you think about what I'm saying before you decide to be a prick.

  • Yea, I always found Genesis handled racers fighters and platformers better while the SNES was an RPG machine. Just look at landstalker, while a good game it was definitely no secret of mana.

  • Couldn't Nintendo not allow the use of THEIR intellectual property in these Sega ads?

  • ps3 needs more blast processing

  • BLAST PROCESSING>G4 Speed

  • I'm amazed the 16 bit wars are still going. If that's the case, I win as I own both consoles and over 100 games for both. :D

  • To be fair, the Genesis DID have the faster processor (Motorola 68000 @ 7.61 MHz vs SNES Ricoh CPU @ 3.58 MHz), but it also had the weaker graphics subsystem, weaker sound processing, less memory.. and the SNES was superior in those areas, plus some games made use of SuperFX technology utilizing an additional co-cpu running from 10.5-21.3 MHz.

It's still, however, quite debatable on which one is the *faster* console overall.

  • @PashReturns

When it comes to F-Zero mode 7 games SNES is the winner but there was never a game on the Super Nintendo that moved like Sonic on Genesis. So for speed and sprites on screen, the Genesis wins. Sega's mistake was releasing crap like 32X, but the Genesis was competitive and it was released in 1988 as the MegaDrive in Japan so Nintendo had 3 years to make the SNES better.

  • fuck blast proccessing! its all abotu mode 7!! scale and rotating bitches!!

  • hey now... Super Mario Kart is the tits...

  • ah the good ole days nintendo vs sega now its just a complete mess with all these fan boys running around haha

  • Europeans didn't have blast processing genisises, instead it they got super slow movements. I feel bad for them.

  • "Blast Processing" was a good marketing ploy. Truth is, the Genesis CPU ran much faster than than the SNES CPU which was designed for RPGs. SNES suffered massive slowdown when there were too many sprites on screen which is why it could never produce a game like Streets of Rage.

  • @aning2K

    Bullshit.

  • @Basketalbi

Go play UN Squadron on SNES and let me know how you like the slowdown xD! BTW, SNES Final Fight has about 2-3 enemies onscreen max throughout the entire game. Genesis does what NintenCan't!

  • @aning2K You fanboys still arguing over that shit 50years later? Well have fun doing that! i'm gonna go play my next gen consoles.

    Btw sega sure showed nintendo.

  • @aning2K

That's just what we call a lazy port.

  • @aning2K It was "Genesis Does What Nintendon't" fool.

  • @PinkTofu4

I know the slogan, dude. The Genesis still pwns the SNES whether Nintencan't or Nintendon't. Had the SNES been designed with a faster processor, it would not have been sprite-challenged. But look up Streets of Rage versus SNES Final Fight and the Genesis is the clear winner.

  • @aning2K I think comparing games like SoR 2 and 3 to Final Fight 2 and 3 would be the better comparison. Early-release games tend to be pretty mediocre, as far as testing the limits of the console goes.

  • @aning2K But the graphics were so much better

  • @aning2K Glad someone else knew about the real facts behind blast processing.

  • the snes had add-on chips that could far outperform the genesis cpu (like super fx, sa-1 and the like). it could also do hardware scaling effects (mode 7) and had a higher color pallette and a better sound chip.

  • @nooblet911

Genesis Virtua Racing also used an add-on chip. As for sound, pallette and mode 7-keep in mind SNES was released 2 years after the MegaDrive/Genesis.

  • well the genesis did surpass snes with the 32x. but that was expensive and poor support.

  • @nooblet911

32x is Sega's biggest and most costly mistake.

  • sure but it was better than snes in all ways, tech-wise.

  • @TheInbornMechanics Sega Genesis had a lot of great games the snes didn't, just like the snes did a lot of great games that the genesis lacked. They're both two amazing consoles, those years were golden

  • I've lived in Europe since late 80's, and have never heard of Mega Drive having "Blast Processing". Must be a US marketing thing.

  • But really, compare popular games on both systems, SNES versions just sucks o_O I really cannot play games like MK3 or RNR Racing on SNES - design and music becomes worse(. Of course some games look better on SNES (Worms or Lost Wikings). Also many RPGS out on Nintedo. But they do not has Sonic. Mario? Haha, good joke. Teen super-hero is not a plumber). Too bad, now its over and Sega is just sucks.

  • @oldliquid Oh, btw rather not Sega but just pathetic Sammy Holdings. Sega is dead now.

  • Ahh yes, "Blast Processing", one of the biggest jokes in the industry. The term originates from an off-handed comment by an engineer at Sega of America, who'd mentioned to their PR group at one point that you could just "blast data into the DACs" (a hardware trick that only worked on specific revisions of the hardware). In fact, none of the games involved in the "Blast Processing" ad campaign used the trick in question.

  • it's funny how the same company who made one of the greatest and most underappreciated consoles ever the Dreamcast which was WAAY ahead of its time

started with mediocre console and not so good library of games (well it got it's gems too but not that many)

but that is propably because i grew up with nes and snes

now snes had one of the best RPG's of all time that never had european or american sequels only in japan wich just pissed me off!

    i am talking about earthBound

  • @apinafilms and terragnima

  • @apinafilms if you say Sega Megadrive\Genesis was mediocre you never played: Ranger-X, Crusaders of Centy\Soleil, Story of Thor, Golden Axe 1, 2 and 3, Herzog Zwei, Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, Chakan, Misadventures of Flink, Sonic games, Devilish, Ecco, Landstalker, Risky Woods, OutRun, Space Harrier, Road Rash, Shadowrun and many others :) Not counting Sega CD\32x pearls like Snatcher, Virtua Racing, Silpheed...

  • @TheWaveringRadiant yeah i have not played ALL of those i am afraid

i have played all golden axes and yeah they were fun

and i personally love oldschool sonic games from sonic1-sonic adventure

and story of thor....kinda felt like zelda clone

ecco i just did not like for personal reasons (nvm)

but yeah i take your word for that genesis had good games : )

but as i said i did not grow up with genesis it was way later i played genesis games

  • @apinafilms I still belive that one of the thing that killed the Dreamcast was its horrible controller.

  • @Grandstra . . . . the controller was epic in every other way...

    .....BUT!

why was the wire of the controller ON THE WRONG SIDE!?!?!

    seriously what were they thinking....?

  • @Grandstra very true! it was annoying to handle for long periods of time

  • Though it didn't exist physically, I tend to think of blast processing as all the creativity Sega had. I believe they stopped using it some time after SA2 but started using it again lately.

P.S. IDAS is better than ever.

  • @vghardcore Genesis has a faster clock speed but SNES had a faster memory access time, which has nothing to do with how fast sprites move on the screen. That's a matter of programming. A turtle can run faster than a cheetah if it's programmed to do so.

I did hear that the 32X MK2 was probably the best home version of the game, but you still had to buy the (then) expensive booster.

  • Sega used to be such an asshole, but now Sega is Nintendo's bitch.

  • *cough* Mode 7 *cough*

  • Nothing was "skewed" and I had my "lesson" years ago. It's funny how Sega fans do as much card stacking as the commercials.

  • That's what I said, HAS 32,768 versus 512. Try playing Mortal Kombat 2 & 3 on both systems and tell me why so much animation and details are missing from Genesis. You'd swear they ran out of crayons. More is better, less is just less.

  • SNES processes data 88% faster than Genesis. It also has 32,768 colors compared to Gen's 512, almost double internal memory, four more controller buttons, and an audio system with less noise. No wonder the narrator didn't answer his own questions or show his face.

  • @dbnydnvn i'm sorry, but that is wrong. you're oversimplifying the matter. snes does NOT have 32,768 colors. in fact, genesis had better color and animation handling than super ninteno.

  • @dbnydnvn i just looked it up in order to give you a quick lesson. genesis is has 512 colors, end of story. and while snes is capable of 32,768, it is not possible for them to use more than 256 of those colors in even the most detailed parts of a given screen. Most sprites and whatnot were limited to 16 colors. This is why, even though it can be skewed to sound like snes has better color, if you try judging for yourself, it's clear that genesis has better color overall.

  • @fheisk Nope. Genesis can only display 61 at a time, putting far behind even an old amiga from 85. Check your facts, bumblefuck.

  • Nintnedo was too cool, they didn't need blast processing. Thats why SNES sold more systems than Genesis did. Genesis does does what nintendon't. Yeah nintendon't fail, genesis does. Dodnt worry not a hate comment just saying. Don't reply to this.

  • Blast processing was just a made up term for Sega's marketing campaign. That's all it was period. I had a Genesis but I admit, the SNES was a more powerful console.

  • I still don't know what the fuck blast processing does...

  • @emurami It doesn't actually exist, they made it up, but the Genesis is faster than the Super Nintendo, so they're not total liars.

  • Gunstar heroes, Contra Hardcorps, Sonic 3, etc.

I think that blast processing was a marketing term used to describe a faster cpu.

  • B-B-B-Blast Prossessing!!!!!

  • Blast processing > Ps3's cell

  • I love how they use Mario Kart as the example. One of the best racing games ever. Nice job Sega.

  • Funny they don't make consoles anymore.

  • Ah, the good ol days of pissing contests between two machines that are practically evenly matched...

NES vs Master System. SNES vs Megadrive. PS1 vs Saturn. PS2 vs Gamecube vs XBox. 360 vs PS3...

...in each case, they were pretty much evenly matched machines.

  • can somebody explain what blas blas procesing is

  • @TheLarres It's complete BS. Sega made it up to promote the Sega Genesis.

  • @IMMATOONLINK but they cant just say something that isnt true........ sega is so strange

  • @TheLarres It was allowed back then.

These days, you'd need permission to use an opposing console in an advertisement, there is no way in hell you'd find anything like this these days.

  • @IMMATOONLINK yeah like an ps3 commercial that says that they have blast processing and the xbox doesnt, and then they connect the two consoles with a rocket and the ps3 would fly away. thats not alowed

  • @IMMATOONLINK You are allowed to show your competitor in an ad for comparison purposes, so yeah Sony could do ads like that today if they wanted to, they probably just don't want to even acknowledge that competition exists.

  • @stronty Sure, maybe, but what definitely isn't allowed is making up something just to make your console seem superior.

There would be so many people suing everyone else.

  • @IMMATOONLINK Actually, SEGA could just saw that 'Blast Processing' is the name for the much faster Motorola CPU that the Genesis uses when compared against the much slower SNES cpu.

Sega did pull a anti gameboy ad that showed laughing rednecks being entertained by a bug zapper and enjoying one color gameboy games. The ad was only shown over a single weekend, you can find it on youtube. The ad was pulled since Nintendo complained about it.

  • ... I don't get it. The Mario Kart framerate looked just as fast, i'm guessing it probably looked especially fast for that tweaker in the Sega dragster.

  • Comment removed

  • I got the strangest urge to play Super Mario Kart now...

  • SNES still had better processing.

That's like saying "Sega Genesis has blast processing. Xbox 360 doesn't."

  • sega are a bunch of 1990 douche bag trolls did they really have to hit under the belt like that and still not have a system? fail sega fail now looks whos clinging on to that clunky old an to stay in the money game.

  • @Sanjixoxo at the end of the 16 bit console wars sega and nintendo had half the market share each.

so yeah maybe sega did have to hit under the belt because everyone was sucking nintendo's dick (they still are to this day). Also who said sega is clinging on, neither you or i have any idea what they may have planned

  • @mechanoid2k nintendo only gained marketshare because sega pretty much was doing the cd and saturn. i preferred sega for fast intense games like sonic, street fighter turbo, gunstar heroes. snes was good for rpgs and platformers. mario kart is a great game but it doesnt have a great sense of speed.

  • @puronicoya i agree

but now nintendo have fallen into a trap. The Video game crash was caused by a mass of low quality 3rd party games (like the wii). Sega Failed because they kept making upgrades to existing hardware that they ditched quickly which lost confidence in them. Nintendo is releasing Wii U and while i don't know much about it for the time being its simply a wii with HD graphics (can you say sega cd).

Nintendo needs to pull their heads out of their asses, brand loyalty won't last long

  • @mechanoid2k i'm a big nintendo and sega fan. i hated when sega pulled but they brought it on themselves. they make awesome games now. they have a variety of games in different genres. i have a wii and play it but good games are few and far between. thats why i bought ps3 and 360. nintendo just isn't making a variety of games. it's always a mario or zelda game and occasionaly something like donkey kong or kirby.

  • @mechanoid2k

The Wii has plenty of good games.

You don't even know about the system but you're going to complain about it? That's smart. The Wii U is stronger than the PS3 and 360, and has HD graphics. Thats a large improvement from the Wii.

  • @XboxLikeWater i'll wait till i see some games come out for it first

also i don't like the fact of only using 1 screen controller per wii u.

also HD isn't anything new or exciting

it just means nintendo caught up but i think its going to be too little too late

  • @mechanoid2k

current gen consoles dont have true 1080p

  • Nintendo still has better games. Screw BlAsZT Pr0cz3zingz LOLZORZ!!!!111!

  • So what does Blast Processing do? Easy. It sells more Genesis consoles.

  • Nintendo were just as guilty of this kind of marketing buzzword bullshit when they claimed Donkey Kong Country was the first game ever to use 'ACM' ('Advanced Computer Modelling'). In reality, it was nothing new - rendering 3D objects to use as sprites was a technique which had already been in use for years.

  • @UncleFeedle Ha, it wasn't even rendering them. The sprites were pre-rendered!

  • @Cesariono Exactly. 2D sprites derived from 3D renders. This is an old technique.

  • bullshit

  • @delgande shit the bull :S

  • so what the blast processing do? NoTHiNG

  • @0000goomer Apparently it straps your TV to a rececar.

  • Sega games are faster than nintendo's

  • @TaInTeDlYnX

    ...and speaking of giving credit...

  • So, you're saying that one console is better than the other because of the car you tied it up to? I would have loved to have seen Nintendo do a revenge advert where a SNES is on the race car and the Mega Drive (that's what I call it) on the caravan (or whatever it is). That would have put them in their place.

  • Because when I think of the Sega Genesis, I think of its notable line of RACING games!

(Hey, I'm a Genesis kid...but come on, it's Mario Kart.)

  • I lol'd hard at 0:21.

  • Aw crap,my Super NES doesn't have blast processing. O well I guess i'll play Chrono Trigger =P

  • what is blast processing

    umm............its blast processing

  • What the fuck is blast processing anyway? They never truly explain it and when I googled it, the first result was about the Sega Mega Drive?Genesis. This leads me to believe that Sega just made up blast processing as a gimmick. Prove me wrong... I still like the Dreamcast better, though.

  • @wheelman1324 Its a fake term they used.

  • @wheelman1324

I think the general consensus is that it's basically a gimmick term. They may have been implying about the speed of the Genesis CPU as well, but for the most part, Blast Processing is not likely to be based on any solid technical aspect of the system.

  • if Sony did this to Nintendo...

  • Sega blast processing did do something you idiot. There are no games on the super nintendo as fast and vibrant as the sega genesis. Nintendo tried to prove they could achieve the speed with Uniracer, but they had to make a super basic game to do it.

  • @973phoenix Hate to break it to you, but the vast (and I do mean vast) majority games on the Mega Drive are no faster than those on the Super Nintendo. Blast Processing was merely a silly term used by SEGA to make it's inferior software library marketable.

  • @smallwood ok name me some.

  • @973phoenix What is it you're asking me to name, exactly?

  • @smallwood games that run as fast and smooth on screen on super nintendo as sega genesis. cuz i can only name one and it had to be a basic game to do it and thats Uniracer. dont get me wrong im not fan boy i owned both systems and i love both almost equally but i do know about hardware and the genesis did hand alot more on screen then super nintendo.

  • @973phoenix

Well, how about comparing the ports of Earthworm Jim? The Genesis had its strengths, and the SNES had its own. If you program something on the Genesis, for example, then port it almost directly to the SNES, then the SNES game might not run smoothly because of its slower processor. The same thing can happen in reverse, as the Genesis has less RAM and color palette/display capabilities than the SNES.

  • This was no average console war, this was a real bloodbath. I know i'm like the goblins from Chrono Trigger, still burning over a war thousands of years ago. But I instinctively get REALLY pissed off when I see stuff like this. I guess

i've still got nintendo blood in me. Besides blast prossesing did NOTHING.

  • Sega does what Nintendon't.

  • Back in the 90's they had blast processing, so does that mean that now that we have the Xbox 360/PS3 we can have enough processing power to blast the words "CUT IT OUT WITH THE CRAP SHOWS CÄЯTØÖИ ИËTWØЯК!!" into the face of the moon? Because I want to do that so very much, especially since they actually had watchable cartoons in the 90s.

  • Blast processing is no match for Donkey kong Country

  • @408man53 i wonder how donkey kong country would look on genesis

  • I hear those Processed Blasts have a LOT more calories than the natural kind.

  • Ok whatever. Trying to make Ecco look cool is like trying to make The Last Airbender look cool.

  • ah, this takes me back. sega!

  • I miss when companies would openly ridicule their opponents with baseless claims of "Blast processing".

  • Did anyone else hear "nigga!" at the end?

  • @PhantomOfPanton *"Sega". Quit having racist hearing and hear what's actually there.

  • @Sirhyro

    It's called a joke...quit being so serious.

  • @PhantomOfPanton But.. I'm so cereal... I'm super cereal.. :D

  • @Sirhyro

    CEREAL :DD

Its the best thing since milk, spoons, and bowls!

  • @PhantomOfPanton sorry for replying to an old post but.. no i didn`t hear anything at the end he said sega really fast haha

  • @Naglfar94

lmao I didn't mean that he REALLY said nigga! XD

I was just pointing out that he said SEGA so fast that it sounded like nigga! haha :D

  • @PhantomOfPanton oh i see haha yeah he did say it really fast though. you know today i just now figured out that nintendo and sega used to be rivals i was reading about it i knew thoes two had console wars but i did not know this fierce wow segas commercials are funny even though i side with nintendo in thisconsole war. the white clunky van in this made me laugh so hard while i was drinking water that i choked off of it! this commercial could have taken me out haha

  • I own the Super Nintendo and the Sega Genesis. They're both 16-bit consoles. I'm fine with them.

  • @TaInTeDlYnX Most of that died after the 16-bit era, and the rest after the 32-bit era ended. This was my point.

  • @TaInTeDlYnX Awesome games? Like uh, Sonic and... Columns. Whatever you might come with up how things were, it doesn't matter. Sega got stomped into the ground and Mario & Luigi took turns on Sonic.

  • The Genesis ran faster, had some cool games, and was my first home gaming console, believe it or not. However, the super nintendo has more nostalgic value for me, because it had games that I enjoyed more, played longer, and had more fun with. I'm sure a lot of gamers agree with me that it's not about "Blast Processing", graphics, or CPU speed, it's about something deeper...

  • Blast Bullshit!

  • The SNES eventually sold 49.10 million consoles, around 20 million more than the Mega Drive

  • @TaInTeDlYnX Uh, yeah. Sega definitely sold with their bullshit addons etc. And how did this "marketing strategy" actually benefit Sega? Kept them on life-support for a bit longer until their rectums got completely re-modified by Nintendo 64.

  • @TaInTeDlYnX I'm sorry, but this is false. They may have different clock speeds, but the SNES CPU had an average of 2 clocks per instruction, where the 68k in the Genesis had at _MINIMUM_ 4 clocks per instruction. Effectively, the SNES CPU _was_ faster.

  • Sound = ass.

  • It's funny how they dis SNES then show a game like Mario Kart. That game was more fun than most Genesis games combine.

  • He never answered his question..... What DOES Blast Processing do?! Stop being so blaaaast

  • SEGA used to be an asshole before Nintendo & Sony finally had enough & made it their bitch!

  • If there was, then that was the worst commercial ever.

  • No one ever told me that there was a war between Nintendo & SEGA :(

  • No this is terrible!
