Now I'm confused. I always thought the Blossoms actually "stood in" for the Crystals on this recording and that the Crystals were upset to learn about this. It's the first time I think I've heard La La Brooke's vocals for this song. What gives?
apperently the orig vocals were darlenes, but spector wiped her's and dubbed La la's vocals, its La la's on the original 45 single release not darlenes. so if you bought the orig 45 back in 1963 it has La La's vocal, darlene's never been released
Thank you for setting me straight on this! It has been frequently mentioned that Phil Spector claimed that he owned the right to use the names "Crystals" and "Ronettes" (etc.) as he chose (for whatever singers he used) and that "He's A Rebel" was recorded by the Blossoms using the Crystals name. I always thought the same was true for "Da Doo Ron Ron" and "He's Sure The Boy I Love." We returned to the Crystals themselves for "Then He Kissed Me."
I've heard that, too--apparently Fanita James thought Darlene Love was singing and didn't realize it wasn't her until two decades later. It would be so cool if Darlene Love's vocals were still around...
OMG!! THIS IS AMAZING!!!

Always liked this record, a real rouser, and you can hear every word they sing despite the musical accompaniment.
