  • your my new guitar inspiration

  • 5 *****

  • I am glad to hear that someone gets it.

  • @robbourassaguitarist not necessarily a reply to your comment but, I want to learn what you're talking a bout in the video. Ive been playing guitar for about a year and a half without a tutor. So basicly i'm learning guitar through tabs only and I know a bit of the pentatonic scale. I'm asking what scales should I be learning or even where I could be learing them. I know you mentionned about your primer but I dont know how it works so if you could help me out on that id be happy to try it out

  • @ZxOxMxBxOxMxB You will have to e-mail me for the PDF links. I can't send them on this server.

  • How can people hate you for providing this insightful gems.

Until you gave me that 7 weeks primer, I was looking for methods on how to play spontaneously, even took Jazz guitar lessons, copy stuffs from youtube and everything else I could think of doing, but I was still unable to find the right map.

I am done looking now, I have found what I need and the best part is, it's free.

    Thank you Rob.

  • you're a great teacher. I'll give a try to learn all of your lessons. thanks for making them free.

ignore those haters, they're jealous of u. that always happens on the internet.

    thanks again... god bless

  • Hey Rob, I'm having a great time working through your primer. I'm just finishing up the D lesson (although I have a feeling it will be a while before that terrible b minor is fully conquered). I just watched this intro video for the heck of it and I am discouraged to find that, while I can play scales C, G, and D fairly proficiently, I still cant seem to improvise the common tunes like you do. Not that I am experienced, but is it possible that I just don't have the ear for melody improvisation?

  • @Dave41992 Most people don't have an ear for melodic improvisation. I wasn't that good at it either until I figured out tunes through the scale. The first tunes took months, but after 5 or 6 melodies, it got easier.

    Now it's easy.

    Keep at it.

  • Thank you so much Rob, you are an incredible musician and an inspiration! I learned about you through my guitarist, who is learning your method. Do you give lessons for bass guitar, or should one just apply your teachings for guitar to the bass? Thanks again for what you do; it makes the world a better place.

  • I wish I had time to lay down some bass exercises, because I have some good arpeggio exercises that will tell a bassist how to find a key quickly.

I will keep that in my mind. Maybe this year.

  • Rob Thanks so VERY MUCH for your teaching ! May God bless you. ..your video comment about getting 'hate mail' about playing a simple song by ear.... ignor them, Rob, you are right- they are foolish. I am proof of your teaching. At 59 no musical training no special talent - I studied what you showed us and I am learning to do it ! - to find and play quickly whatever simple melody comes to mind. - so enjoyable ! Its not magic or 'something you must be bron with. Larry
  • Thank you Larry. That is great to hear.

  • All these lessons have been extremely helpful to me, thanks for making them available Rob. And for making them free!

  • You're welcome Albert. Great playing by the way. I checked out your channel.

  • Thanks a lot!

  • Awsome!

I want to play happy birthday song like you.

  • Hi Rob.Thanks for the great lessons. You are a great source of inspiration for me.After seeing you I have started practicing hard.I have finally played "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring" and put up my video.6 years back i could only dream of playing the guitar. But now by God`s grace i am able to get guidance from good selfless people like you. Thanks for all the time and effort you have put in for the rest of the world to benefit.

  • Rob, I have been wondering for a while; what kind of guitar is that? I have never seen one quite like that. BTW, keep up they great work! I have learner a ton from you.

  • This is a Zimnicki, 18" Archtop.

I've had it since 93. It is my favorite guitar. I have never played one better.

  • Rob, you have obviously poured a lot of time and effort into the 7 week lesson (and others). THANK YOU! They have been *VERY* helpful so far, and are improving me as not only a guitarist, but a musician.

Your obvious appreciation for musicianship is rare, and it comes through in the lessons loud and clear. Thank you thank you! Keep up the good work!!!

  • Thanks for the nice comments.

  • Thanks for posting such great stuff Rob. I'm going to dig in. I'm in the Detroit area and was recently laid off so these are a godsend. I need to start at the beginning and get a proper foundation once and for all. Soon as I can afford it I'll be in contact. Mickey

  • Hang in there Mickey, times are tough.

  • Please, "On the Bus"!

  • Hey Rob, I'm going through your 7 week primer...Have to say I've only been learning songs on the guitar for the past decade and not really knowing how to play the guitar.

I've always used the guitar just to accompany my singing, but you have such a great way of teaching that it really made me want to improve and finally say I can play the guitar and not just learn songs by rote. A sincere thank you for posting these lessons.

  • I hope it is going well for you.

Let me know if there's anything you'd like to cover.

  • Rob, you are a 'real ' teacher.

So many others just give lectures.

I can only imagine how much more progress I could have made if I had known these things when I first started.

I will be mailing a card to your son this morning. May you and your family have a blessed holiday season !

    - Larry

  • Thanks for the card Larry. He had so many he couldn't respond to them. This was a very nice thing.

    Thanks again,

    Rob

  • "they are only as good as the last song they played..." Man, you are talking about me ! :)

  • Pascal, you play beautifully. I think that most people would be very happy to play as fluidly and musically as you do, even if they weren't great at playing on the fly.

People think I'm exaggerating when I say that 95% of the guitar teachers out there can't do what I'm talking about. It's because people are generally not as honest as you are, or as humble.

    Rob
