There are millions of animals, like these poor babies who we get to watch die, that need homes. This is absolutley preventable. @Lacinda1 They take in all unwanted pets to PREVENT them from suffering, until either someone adopts them, or they get put down quickly and (hopefully) painlessly. Usually, the animals that have been in there longest are the first to be put down, which makes sense. If they aren't adopted within the first weeks, chances are they never will, and would otherwise spend their entire life in a small cell. If all shelters were no-kill, there'd be countless more animals slowly starving on the streets.

No matter the method of death, it still is unacceptable. The only way to prevent the need is to spay/neuter every pet at the kitten or puppy mill. Not everyone wants a pet or can take care of one. @CarolineJanee There are not enough homes, go and look in any shelter for animals, they are full.I know shelters with over 400 dogs and over 100 cats. Somebody put them on the streets. They all have to be fed, taken care off. Do you know how much shit they produce! Volunteers are cleaning the shelters, feeding them and raising funds to pay for this. Are you doing it? Don't judge the people working there, they are the one's that have to clean up the problems of all you "holy" people. "Excuse"..?

There was nothing wrong with any of these animals in this video - I know the shelter personally and can say the people who run it don't give crap about any of these animals and want them gone, one way or another. The manager herself has been quoted saying that stuff.

Makes me sick to see all these animals, and especially the puppies, put down. Note - all animals who have even a little issue, killed with 24 hours. Strays found? 3 days. suitable pets? a week

heads up - the drug they use on these animals isn't fast or painless. it leaves the animal suffering awhile. they hold the animal down and sometimes it takes many attempts to find a vein.

Hello, I'm sorry to tell you this, but the puppies in this video were not sick, and were way too young to have many (if any) heartworm microfilariae in their blood stream. You could safely wait a month or two longer than their age before even starting them on a preventative with the active ingredient being Ivermectin.

I started balling from :55 on. I had a rotty much like the dog at :55 , and was was euthanised as well but for agression. He was 14 yrs old and litterally lost it. More people need to be aware of what happens to animals at shelters. I've done my part and adopted a beautiful siamese cross cat, and I can't wait until I move into a house with more room so I can adopt more animals and save then from being euthanised.

I hear breeders use this argument, Aargh! Even if every pet in half the world were spayed/neutered, there will always be the other 1/2 breeding. Even if it's just 1 country breeding, they will produce enough for the entire world- there are that many homeless animals out there. I volunteer at the Tijuana dog pound, they euth. over 200 dogs/mo- thats at least 2400 dogs/yr- in ONE city. Think about it real hard....

Stray pets found have a 3 days

I've watched this over and over, and the tears just don't stop. We must educate people to spay and neuter and NOT buy from breeders. Just look in their eyes. They don't have a clue why they're there, and all they want is to give and receive love. If you find you must give up your companion, PLEASE find a no-kill shelter or a rescue to take them. My current pound rescue dog is so incredibly smart & loving. They know you've saved them. They know what the "other side" is like. They give back unconditional love a million times over. So sad. Yes sick animals are euthanized in shelters too. But so sadly many are very healthy and friendly animals that would make great pets.  They just have no home and the shleter became too full. Even if they had a safe place to go until they found a home that would save their lives too. Many are just given a few days to find a home before they are killed.

No. Most of these dogs are HEALTHY. They are killed because there is no room. It is called animal overpopulation. 4- 6 million animals are killed every year for not other reason than overpopulation. Too many people continue to irresponsibly breed.

The breeding of animals by professionals is actually a good step toward ending over-population. A $400 purebred w/ established health is much more likely to maintain a permanant home, or be successfully rehomed, than any number of mutts (good dogs they may be).

Beyond that, it isn't your mayor that can stop this. Its the resources of the shelters and societies that rescue animals thats important. Want to help? Donate to a no-kill.

Yes, sad, but this is truly a better end than starvation, disease and abuse on the streets. I am particularly impressed with the gentleness and kindness the animal shelter people show as they hold the dying animals. This is humane, fast and not frightening for the animals.
