it's not bad this version, but i prefer the60's version by Lance Percival. The second verse after he's told he cant marry his sister, is different in the original. "Weeks went by and the summer came down & soon another girl n the Island he found, he went 2 his poppa 2 name the day, & this time his poppa shock his head & did say, U cant marry this girl, I have 2 say no, the girl is your Auntie but your granny dont know!"

actually, the guitarrist in 2005 was Kevin Burdett, in replacement of Chris, that's why he isn't in the video... but Kevin isn't there too, he did just small appearances in NW5, Sorry, and some Live events, replacing Chris in those years, but playing in all studio songs of Dangermen Seasons cd.

But I'll admit this song isn't exactly their best. By the same token though, this song, which is...one of their worst...is a million times better than anything released in the past decade. The 2000s in themselves must be the most horrific decade in history music-wise.

I agree with totally. Being the same age I can fully relate to what you think of the rubbish that the Noughties have produced. Madness is one of the greatest bands of all time, and not exactly their greatest song, I'm not too keen on the not-so-rando video, but like you said, better than anything released in the past decade.

I grew up listening to the 'authentic' calypso version. I enjoy both versions, just as I love the Kinks' original version of 'Lola', but still enjoy Madness' cover version. I suppose it's because they're not purporting to improve either, but just seem to be playing them for the joy of it.
