wait.. so before i make a comment about how dangerous this looks and how long it takes and how much gas does that thing use, why not just use an axe ... why exactly do they use that thing???
Sounds like my dump truck, or to be more exact, a washing machine falling down a flight of stairs. Other than the noise it beats using an ax and maul all to pieces.
Man, just wait till that fuckin thing impales itself in his leg and yanks his dick off in the process. Then they won't be so proud of that piece of shit log splitter.
Ya dumb asses. I had a broken collar bone. The clatter is from slack in a gear keyway. It is now quiet. It aint best of all, but I have split hundreds of cords of wood with zero downtime. Laugh all ya want . No gas motor or fumes. It aint that slow. It was 30 below when my idiot nephew took the vid. Also I made a feed lever to improve safety.
@mrwoodrow those machines are far simpler than the hydraulic ram type. i trhink i will build or buy one. I hope your arm is healed. take care. watch my video mike the drunk eats mouse and please leave comments.
That actually looks pretty quick compared to messing about with some hydraulic thing... probably the most dangerous contraption I've ever seen though :D
@717717josh I don't know exactly what you mean by 'city boy', but I guess most places are city-like compared to Alaska. Anyway, I've been splitting wood since I was a kid and I just think this particular way of doing it is quite slow, that's all.
I bought one of these at a garage sale it has a 12H.P.briggs with a gear reducer I used it once and noticed if your pants or shirt get caught in it it will suck you in without a grunt from the motor.
oh god, i saw those splitters in mother earth news back in the 70's when i was a kid.you are suposed to jack up your truck, take off a wheel bolt that thing on and put'er in gear and split wood like hell. some how at the age 12 I KNEW that thing was dangerous.they showed splitting the wood from the cut end in the magazine by the way.i always wondered who would be crazy nuff to buy one, they might have found that thing at a flea market im thinking.
ohhh- isshhhh.....i thought he didnt have a arm either! i was like thats cool that they kept him around after he chopped his arm off...but hes just playing a game of alaskan pocket pool..lmao!..omg...thats great!
At first I was like Jesus that guy is missing his right arm LOL !! but then he waved and I was like oh he still has it LOL !!!! and then I was like, well shit thats why he still has it cause he keeps it in his pants WTF !! so instead he uses his wanker to push on the log WTF !! This vid has just taken me on a emotional roller coaster !!! ROFL !!!!.........
Overheard in an Alaskan tavern: I got an idea, let's spin a cone-like thingie to split wood, then we'll use our manly-bits to force the wood into it! They'll never try that in the Lower 48!
I'll certainly give you faster, but I doubt very seriously easier.
I split 8 full cord a year. We heat with wood. I can knock out 50% more in the same time with a maul / axe / sledge&wedge than I can with my expensive gas powered splitter ... but it's waaaaaayyyyyyy easier with the splitter.
Wow!!! Talk about a OSHA nightmare. I split wood faster than that with my maul. Granted I am done after 45 minutes, but I am sure I can beat the three of them in a day cord fpr cord.
he will think twice about doing that when that round thing grabs his pant leg and twist him around 180. that is very stupid.. i would take a regular wood splitter any day.
Actually I bought a new Stickler splitter this week- March 2008 >yes 2008! Mounted on a reversible hydraulic hole auger and split a cord of 36 inch rounds of green Mulberry by myself in little more than an hour. Never had to lift a log before it was split up just rolled it to the machine and started breaking it down. Found the reverse hydraulic and screw splitter to be safer than I was with my explosive hydraulic ram splitter.
I just bought a Stickler and love how easy it splits wood. It is a pain in the backside thogh mounting it on the hub of the pick up and the taking it off again. Do you have any thoughts on how to attach it to a small gas engine?
The absolute safest way to use a stickler is to mount it on a drill press! The bigger the press the better! We split the biggest rounds by dropping the head down low to the ground so we don't have to lift them. Then raise it back up to finish them off. I have tried it with a car and would not!
Yes, I made the machine.I got the screw at a garage sale. It was designed to be bolted on a vehicle(blocked up) in place of a wheel to split wood. Now THAT would be wild!I originally mounted it on a mortar mixer shaft in place of the bucket, but eventually used an I-beam for the frame.I also used a new 1,1/2 horse ,240v electric motor with a reversable switch.
BRILLIANT! but be careful guys. Having said that swinging an axe is pretty dangerous. Where did you get that giant screw from? Did you make that machine? Many Thanks
Thanks For the advice! We have it smoothed out, quieted down, and the clavicle has ( from snowmachine crash) has healed. It is painted up now,and we just split 15 cords of beetle killed spruce without a hitch. Will see about a video update!
Leather chaps: either blacksmith style or better still, get custom made, several layers - 5? thick of good quality leather. Otherwise, it's pretty amazing and shivers-inspiring for the rest of us to see a demonstration of how it was done in yesteryear. Kudos gentleman! However, could you not find some funding for a more safe one? this is 2007 now, and you can show this video from now on, instead of actually doing it.
lol had something like that back in the 80s split em all was a big screw like machine..thats looks pretty slow plus if you slip say goodbye to your manhood pretty fast!
that is the stupid way to spit wood i have seen looks like a waste of time and fuel , take an ax and split a lot faster
