i remember when this movie aired and within a few months after a bubble gum company tried to cash in on it's popularity and hired the guy who played Bubba for their commercial and at the end of the commercial he would pop up with a silly look on his face and yell out ''Hubba Bubba!''

@Ebenezershnezer81 His mother tried to hide him, as I recall. It's been a LOOOOONG time since I'e seen it. Why she thought this was gonna help, I dunno. But, the way this movie was written, directed, and acted far outshines anything being produced in the horror franchise today, in my opinion. Gone are the days of suspense, of genuine dread. Now we are just bombarded with blood and bodies torn to pieces. Horror? No, gore. And that's gross.

My mom was scared shitless as a kid by a movie involving a scarecrow and it really creeps her out but she doesn't remember the name of the movie, just some scenes. I looked into it and I believe it was this movie... that scarecrow is quite haunting. Especially with those big eyes in the first scene.

Perfect example of how you don't need gore or cheesy CGI effects to make a great scary movie. You just need a great storyline. I was ten (like many others posting here) when I saw this. I hadn't seen it in 29 YEARS since its original airing in 1981 and rented it from Netflix this week and it STILL holds-up. It really hasn't dated at all, especially with the top-notch restoration they did.

I haven't seen this movie since it first came out in 1981. I was 13 at the time. It is up there with "The Night Stalker" and "'Salem's Lot" as one of the best TV horror movies of all time. The people putting out horror movies today need to sit down and watch this movie to see how it is REALLY done. Strong acting, strong story, strong direction, & creepy atmosphere. Today's horror fans wouldn't know a good horror movie if it came up and bit them in the you know where!

AngelofAngush, I was only about 7 when I saw it, and at my uncle's house in the middle of nowhere. Was having a bit of a sleepover with other cousins, but I got stuck sleeping in the rear bedroom by myself. And it didn't help it was windy that night, like in the movie. Ooohhh! I was terrified. Slept with the blankets over my head that night, if I slept at all. And I haven't seen any of them other movies,but I'll check them out.

@Titan52berg I love the original Salem's Lot which also starred Ed Flanders. But I still think DNOTSC is just a notch above SL because of the amazingly eerie atmosphere. It just has Halloween written all over it. SL has an eerie atmosphere, but not necessarily an October one. I would pick SL as my second favorite TV horror movie followed by Midnight Offerings.

A close second on my list of the best horror movies of all time (The Haunting with Julie Harris is the first). Shows what a good story can do, even without a big budget and costly special effects.

I remember seeing this when it aired in 1981. I was only 5, and it was THIS scene, and it went right to commercial break before they shot him. I didn't understand what was going on, but I was terrified by the man hiding in the scarecrow. My parents turned it off because I couldn't handle it. The imagery of the scarecrow with the human eyes gave me nightmares for a while. Thanks for uploading this!

my dad was in this movie a few years before i was born. i remember watching it a lot when i was real young. this and children of the corn had the biggest impact on me because i grew up in a very rural part of southern california. watching this is so inspirational for some reason; it makes me wish i could terrorize a small town after i'm dead.

the charles durning character, the mailman, is a pedo who seems jealous of the relationship the retarded guy has with the young girl in the beginning even though it's innocent.

and then after nice retard guy is wrongly killed his ghost gets revenge on the guys who killed him one by one. and it seems like as a ghost he was smarter than in life by the ways he would kill each guy.

I love this movie..They definitely don't make them like that anymore. The best scary movies are the one's that creep you out, not gross you out in my book. The first time I saw this movie I was spending the weekend at my aunt and uncle's house and watched it. I believe I was 7. That night I slept (or tried to) in their back bedroom, by myself, and the wind was blowing around outside and making this weird sound when it triend to blow thru the shutters on the window. God I was scared to death.!!

I agree, however these types of films probably do not make alot of money at the box office. So hollywood will play it safe with a formula that will rake in the bucks such as slasher and gore pics. I discovered this movie by chance and was very impressed.

Ha ha, like the other posters (showing their age!) I've not seen this since about 1980 when I was 10. Made-for-TV horror films were so awesome back then, and I'm glad to see some kind folks have uploaded them to YouTube.

Its interesting. Its back from the time before the TV networks wentfor the lowest common denominator and you still had to come up with original programming rather than rehashing the same formula over and over again. The basic cable channels and premium channels have revived the concept with some of the new shows that have cropped up like "The Shield", "Battlestar Galactica","The Closer","Sex and the City", "The Soprannos", ect.This movie is classic horror that was produced bythe movieoftheweek

This movie scared you in a subtle way. It was not in your face violent. It sneaked up in you and made the hairs on your arm stand up. It made you feel like you were alone in the dark with someone watching your every move. Some may feel it's corny by today's standards, but for a 1981 made for tv movie, it rocked! And it still does in my opinion. It's a great movie to watch with mixed company in the dark with popcorn.

I love that line. This tv movie gave me nightmares. So did "Trilogy of Terror" (the Zuni doll chasing after Karen Black) and "Bad Ronald" (Scott Jacoby living behind a wall and terrorizing young girls who live in the house). These were all TV movies! And "Don't be Afraid of the Dark" with those little orange gremlins calling out "SALLY!" And of course,"Stephen King's' It"...Tim Curry as Pennywise the evil clown!

Film makers don't seem to care much about pacing

or setting a tone anymore. Remember when horror films used to have unique scores set to them? Now they just recycle a score from another film for the trailers and use what ever songs are currently popular on the radio for the film. No creativity anymore.
