I actually love the subtitles because i feel japenese anime writers write so much better than american anime writers. When i watched some dubbed animes i get really annoyed because the lines are so corney and doesn't always follow the manga
Their 'otakus' that'll put away their patriotism for cartoons yet never lived in japan, are japanese or can read japanese without it being words like nani, kawaii, desu, arigatou, etc.
The voicing just has more emphasis in the originals though sometimes the dubs are better. I'd go with DBZ english than the squeak japanese version. Their nerds with an unhealthy obsession that'll start arguments over shows about them being 'correct' yet know little to nothing of eastern culture.
I know a good number of Otaku who like dubbed as well as subbed so i don;t think you can just hand wave someone not liking dubs as being "otaku"
I'll you how i got about. What ever language I hear it in first is what I tend to prefer for that series. I watched most of Evangelion in Japanese when the store suddenly switched to Dub only and I just found Shinji's VA annoying as hell. Conversely I like GITS in English and Love SM in both languages.
@Citrakite Probably helps that pretty much all of the Eva Dub was horrible.
Don't know about 'otakus', but considering I've probably been into anime long before it came on CN, I have a pretty good understanding of the Dubs vs. Subs. Like Citrakite said, the first one I hear is the first one I like, which is mostly subs.
Also, most of the early anime had horrible dubbing, before they realized you can't keep the same high pitched tone going over to American audiences.
Subtext gets lost in the redubbing, and most of the lines sound (more) retarded in English. Also, I don't mind reading, so there's that..
A good example is the horrible way the DBZ dubs were done. I can understand the need to market to kids, but I'm pretty sure Goku wasn't a warrior for love and justice and universal peace. Also, the music wasn't even up to Tom and Jerry quality.
@VideoPimp22 I complain about horrible edits and bad dubbing. Most anime that was being published in the states in the early to mid 90s was done well. Now companies push out as many dubs as they can of series they get a hold of so fast that they pay little detail to VAs or what they're editing. FFS, 4Kids actually edits out English words from series before they're aired. WORDS ALREADY IN ENGLISH. Please tell me what you think of that.
@FinalMasterM 4Kids are notorious for being the morons of dub productions though. I mean their name is pretty much synonymous with a hack job as they needless censor and redub things. This is the company that somehow screwed up Cardcaptor Sakura by cutting the first six episodes I think so they could introduce Lee Shoufan and call it Cardcaptors. Be like taking first 12 episodes of Dragonball Z out and renaming it Z warriors.
The voice was done by someone called 'Verthandi'. I don't know what that means, because Verthandi is a Norse Goddess, and that's the original name of OMG's Belldandy.
I'm not much into reading subtitles (and on occasion, the japanese voices are WORSE than the english dub voices), and Cartoon Network chops the shows up SO badly.... ;_; Eh, anyway....good job on the video and the dub voice is nice. ^.^

I don't like subtitles either.
I don't get why Americans complain about dubbings.... They act like there real japanese people or something.....
VideoPimp22 2 years ago 2
Heh... you described me. But I admit you are right.
But I would never complain about the existance of a dub. I simply don't have to watch it right?
People who complain about dub might do so for 2 MAJOR reasons.
The video they are watching doesn't specify dub or not, luring them in with false advertising so to speak.
Or if the original Japanese version is unavailable. With Tenchi Muyo this is most common.
Since I already have TM in Japanese. I can't complain. Nor should pro-dubs.
tenchimuyo69 2 years ago
Yeah especially when the dubbing is great like with Sailor Moon, Tenchi (of course), DBZ, Gundam Wing, POKEMON (big example).
I can see when it sucks but that's not 100% of the time O.o.

I so know what you mean as I saw the original dub of Guyver. At times sounds like they recorded it in someone's garage.
Can't say I'm old school. I caught onto anime in '92 back when it was all VHS but I've seen a ton of stuff from the 80's since then.

@Citrakite
That's as bout as old school as I am, if not counting barely remembered Robotech, and Trans-zor- Z :D
You know what the funny thing is? I actually LIKED watching Guyver, even with the bad dubbing.... That could just be because Guyver is Awesome.
