two years ago I bought an htc hero and my brother a samsung galaxy in the store they just looked at the stats and said the galaxy is better but two years later i can tell you the hero with his sense and android updates, multi tough and a better build quality is a way better phone

You know what? I regret for not buying Samsung Galaxy Spica which is very good for android first users.very user friendly and a lot of mouth watering features.when my friend proudly showed his galaxy phone,I was pretty impressed and now i want it.

I would take galaxy spica over them.. 5mp+ phone cameras fail to impress me.. 3.2mp some times take better image... and led flash are not good, normal range is only 100cm.. my girlfriends samsung jet can`t keep up with my nokia 5530 3.2mp camera in bad light.. amoled give you only 10%better battery life.. even if it use up to 60% less battery than tft.. the 800mhz cpu on spica make it suport 2.1 android update.. these others will get stuck with android1.5-1.6 because of hardware..

Colours do make a difference, but having an AMOLED also makes a huge difference, probably more so than the colours

People who kept saying that there's no noticable difference between a 65,000 colors screen and a 16 mil. colors screen should have their eyes checked by optometrists. There're HUGE differences noticeably color saturation, depth, and gradation. If you load a high contrast photo (eg. a color gradient bar) into these phones, the one with 65k screen will display "color banding" while the 16 mil. screen looks perfect. Don't be fooled by HTC's excuse for it's shortcomings, use your common sense.

The difference you can notice depends on what kind of screen is used in each phones. Samsung has AMOLED, Magic whereas has TFT. See the difference between 16 mln colors and 65k is hardly possible, if not impossible.

You can think what you like. But the truth is that the quantity of colors does have nothing to image quality. Everything is about screen type, AMOLED gives alot better image.

Galaxy is really jerky - this video doesn't really show quite how unresponsive it is compared to my old Magic. Also Samsung have completely fu**ed up the stock Android keyboard, its biggest problem being that inputting a number now requires two initial keypresses...more annoying than it sounds.

The camera is nice though, as is the bright screen.

I have no idea what's up with your camera or HTC Magic, but my Magic screen doesnt look like that at all... no horrible blue-ish tint, and the colors look EXACTLY like the Samsung Galaxy when I held my phone up to it side by side.

Looked a lot more like the Samsungs screen than the HTC Magic's screen in this vid ....

okay wow.. sooo. amoled is just for aesthetics. 5mp+LED flash is not even important compared to 288 mb of RAM.. the galaxy has 128mb of RAM which is soo skimp.

Congrats to Samsung on their first Android device. It has everything that HTC simply ignored. LED Flash, 5 mega pixel camera, 3.5 mm headphone jack, 1500 ma battery, 8 gb storage did i forget to mention the LED Screen.

Galaxy is awesome (now you can find Hero theme for it, last firmware solved most of bugs) if you don't wanna pay for the Hero which is nearly the cost of N97/iPhone 3GS, but if you want an upgraded version of HTC Magic, you got your phone. Btw the screen is fucking awesome, never seen such a quality before, Youtube high-quality videos look like HD!

wtf?! u crazyy! the only thing the galaxy has over al android phones is it 8gig internal storage.

its RAM is lower than the g1. galaxy is just an obsolete phone. storage means nothing when the phone runs slow.

Seems like your familiar with these phones. I know you stated the galaxy is slower and has less memory than the G1 but why dont I see it on this review. They both seem to run pretty good and about the same?

okay the processor is the same. RAM really matters when it comes to multitasking. in the long run,the g1 has more available ram compared to the galaxy which help does help the g1 run faster when it comes to multitasking

if i waited a bit longer, i propably bought the galaxy. now i'm happy with the jet and i dont desperately need an android-phone, so ill stick with my jet, but if i had to choose between magic and galaxy, i'd go with the galaxy.

darkdestroyer411 has reason in some way, despite magic and galaxy have same 192 MB of RAM, Hero phone is the logical HTC alternative for Galaxy.

In my opinion if you intend develop & test apps for android choose Hero that is more future proof with 288 Mb of RAM, but if you are looking for the best android phone of the moment ,Galaxy must be your choice: AMOLED + better battery + 3.5 headphone jack + overall better dimensions and shapes lead me to think so.

actually the unlocked htc magic and rogers magic have 288mb ram and 512 rom. same as hero.

vodaphone magic and tmobile mytouch have 192mb ram and 512 rom.

galaxy is not the best android phone on market. the 32A magics beats out the galaxy.

The Galaxy is similar in spec and price to the HTC Hero, so this is a slightly unfair comparison. I've just bought a Hero, love the 3GS but I went for an Open Source system, can't wait to get it.

I like your comparative (and would like to know who plays that song). I noticed the soft keyboard is shorter in Magic than in Galaxy. I would like to know if they are equal when running various applications on background: Locale, Nimbuzz, K-9, Handcent and some widgets like Biobirthday, JSWeather, Calendar, Moonphase and taskbar.

Really I think Android is too much for that processors.

It's true that the galaxy's screen is a lot better than the htc.. However I still prefer the htc for his design & the track ball.

The Samsung doesn't look pretty much wow... that's amazing. the colors are so much cleaner and clearer. Is the samsung screen a resistive or capacitative, since all samsung screens seem to be resistive. When looking at a web page with the little zoom window, the samsung moves around so much more smoother. Definitely the samsung phone has better specs. But why is it ugly. Now its hard to decide which one i want.

The Galaxy is far from ugly. Wait until you have it in your hand. It feels great and is so slick. I hate phones that are like bricks. The galaxy is really thin and it has a capacitative display. Get the galaxy! I love it :-)

How can you tell that the AMOLED screen is better in this video??? For me it seems that the two phones are exactly the same performance wise and even that the magic beats the galaxy some times even though the specs points to a different conclution (towards the galaxy in favour). I am VERY happy with my HTC Magic. I couldn't expect antything more from my Andriod Phone.

I have a Magic too, and can say without but (as anyone seeing this video) that amoled screen is better than OLED. In Magic, BLACK is DARK GRAY and all is bluished. Colors are more real in Galaxy. See again the video and think about it.
