sadly today my crayfish which was only a baby i found in my aqaurium tank passed on which was sad because it had such a nice personality by the way the tank is a 20 gallon
ahh that is sad, i am sorry. sudden/unexplained death is something you get used to whilst keeping inverts. but as you state, the pleasure of owning one, often, outweighs the problems.
right now i have a 10 gallon tank with crayfish and neon and cardinal tetras might get a red tail shark can anyone tell me more fish that are compatible plz respond thx
how compatible fish are with your cray, is really down to the personality of the cray! but avoid slow moving fish (bottom dwellers) and avoid aggressive (which means most, but not all, cichlid's). finally there is no way you can put an RTS in a 10 gallon tank. though only growing to 6 inches (giants get to 7 inch), they need room to swim, even a baby needs 30 gallons and grown fish need 50 minimum.
personally i'd stay away from the red tailed shark as well i've had two in the past and they've been bastards to the otherfish, actually killing three. that is just my experience with them.
hey - what fish do you keep with your crayfish? - i am scared to put any fish in with myne, dont want him to kill them...he is in quite a big aquarium by himself...
She's a beauty! We have a female red claw in our tank. She was blue when we got her, but she's not anymore. I've heard it could be the lighting, the substrate, water temp, any number of things. She's healthy, though, so I don't care what color she is. :)
yep both light and substrate affect colour, never heard about temp effecting them though. min 12 hours low light is right, 14 for breeding. natural light is best, as it seems UV has quite an effect on how blue they are. and a temp of 74-80. 82-86 for breeding.
I have a natural river rock pebble substrate, the lights are just two regular 24" bulbs that fit in two hoods, and temps fall between 72-78 (I am raising that a little each day since we did a water change). Either way, she's fun, though.
they are fun that's very true!! all the best with yours. remember these guys are basically veggie, requiring only small amounts of protein/meat. there are not many better critters the aquarist can keep.
