@garylokp1 I know it's hard to translate a Chinese poem (or all Chinese poems for that matter) into English. I should be an expert now of this song, cause I got a lot of help from the YouTubers and I also found a lot of info on the web. It's a very romantic story, although the the real story about the Princess wasn't that romantic. The real story was even more sad.
This information is well known to me. I have seen the tv-series in the eighties and I fell in love with the song, even though I didn't understand Cantonees. To my knowledge the name of the singer is Teresa Cheung in the Roman language ? I have also heard the opera version and like it. Opera is a little bit hard to swallow for me. Thanks for your information.
Thank you very much for your translation. I'm very glad for your attempt (although it's a rough one). I have made a Chinese to English translation on the web, but all I could do was picking up the pieces and trying to put them together. Your help is very much appreciated. So I'm finally discovering my Chinese heritage. Have a nice day !!!
Do you have the English translation of this song? I've been dying for ages to know what this song is about. I know it's from an old tv-series. I've seen it, though I didn't had a clue what the storyline was.
It was a modified version from an old Cantonese opera as the lyrics were mixing old classic verses with contemporary phrases, all the experts and true scholars please help to perfect this long and unpolished translation. It could be too long, if so, I will append the remainder as a separate posting. Here goes -
The (mass amount) of falling flowers could not obstruct the moon beams.
(Viewing the) old moon from the imperial garden brought deep griefs and sighs.

帝女花 is the well known Cantonese opera which basically everyone in Canton and Hong Kong knows. This song is a remake by a TV station in Hong Kong. The drama is remake into a more action TV episodes, plus the song was rewriten for this TV shows. This songs is 張德蘭武俠帝女花
武俠means martial arts. 張德蘭 is the original singer for this theme song.
@175Kingwithoutacrown It's hard to translate into English but there was a story about this song. In Ming dynasty (ancient China), the emperor was overthrown by rebellion army. The princess did't want to live alone. She decided eat poison with her husband in the palace. Before that, she sang this song to express her missing to his emperor, her unwillingness to leave her husband and her presistance for dying

@175Kingwithoutacrown Chinese lyrics are as follows:
落花哪可蔽月光, 帝苑月色嗟怨深, 含樟老树借花落, 悼着亡国恨, 哀声谢我知心, 心知你重缘份, 为我决走生死约.
我心又何忍, 生也挽手, 死也两人, 今夕还君相思孽, 悠然泪下 花影满身, 共君两心靠紧, 与君共举杯畅饮.
红烛带泪却忍泪, 相拥订终生, 结伴泉壤有幸再生也不分.
You can do the on-line translation and roughly know what the song means. Hope this helps.

The _____ tree lent its flowers (to fall as its tears), grieving the pains of the now defunct country.
In my sad voice, I give thanks to the one person who knows my heart.
My heart feels how you place great value in this relationship; allow me to go one step ahead to seal this contract of life and death.
My heart also could not bear (the pains), holding (our) hands while we are still alive. Alive or after death, the two of us shall remain together.

If she can perfect her cantonese, then it will be flawless! Nevertheless, I love her singing.
