  • R.I.P SIR CLEMONNS

  • People like Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan are the once who cannot help themselves 2 write songs, material, to heal nations. It's in their blood. They are voices to fight injustice. Voices to go against evil. And after them, there will be others. They are the eternal soul of the universal police corps. I know it sounds 'a little too much', but it's true. They have the true talent to make songs to change the world.

  • you can't beat the boss baby...you just can't do it

  • There's a blood red circle on the cold dark ground and the rain is falling down The church doors blown open I can hear the organ's song But the congregation's gone My city of ruins My city of ruins Now the sweet veils of mercy drift through the evening trees Young men on the corner like scattered leaves The boarded up windows The hustlers and thieves While my brother's down on his knees My city of ruins My city of ruins Come on rise up! Come on rise up!

  • 5 members of a sleeper cell disliked this video...

  • A prayer for our fallen brothers and sisters" how ironic. 911 was the beginning of the end of the USA as we know it. !0 years later our lives here are a but a shadow of what we once knew in terms of personal freedoms. With the FDAA and SOPA legislation in waiting and ready to go, and few people even knowing about it due to media blackout, we are doomed. "Comin rise up Come on rise up"

  • lastima querido Bruce que los verdaderos culpables de este no son los que la mayoria de la gente cree

  • 5 ppl are morons

  • No one tells a story through music better, and that includes Dylan and McCartney.

  • Good one!!!!!!

  • I just went to church without leaving my house! ! thanks Bruce!

  • Never ending Prayer!!!!!!!!

  • Just hearing about this guy now. HOw many employees does the Boss have? I've been looking for work for some time now. any help would be much appreciated. I'm a hard worker and a very fast learner. Thanks

  • @jackonemillion The Boss employs about 20, it's a small family business, always has been. Typical work day is approximately 3 hours, not including preparation time and travel.

Please send employment inquiries to 1 E Street, Asbury Park, NJ. Note that it may take time to process your request, as it may not be up to the hiring man.

  • I remember hearing this at the time, and it brought great comfort.

  • May God forever punish the Islamofascists who killed those over-3000 Americans...and may America NEVER forget that sick group that did it.

  • pray for all our fallen brothers and sisters.

  • I was only 10 on 9/11/01. But I remember well that day, what it meant then and what it means now. But most of all I remember this song. Sitting there with my parents...It was the first non-news programming on television after the attacks I had seen. And I had only been to New York once (I live there now) but the sight of all those lights gone out in Manhattan hit all America hard. But like the Boss said..."With these hands." Never forget. Live on. Here's to New York, America, and the brave 2,977

  • so many documentaries on tv now about 9/11, I can't belive it's been 10 years now, I remember it like it was yesterday. Never forget the victims!

  • Beautiful

  • R.I.P Jack Layton

  • Never Forget...9/11

  • timeless and beautiful

  • Bruce is the KING!

  • @water2908 Bruce isn't the king he's the BOSS

  • beautiful song with a bit of influence from The Band

  • @ColdOasisU2 you are referring to the weight? yeah well, that chord progression was used long before robbie and his gang hit the scene.. and we haven't heard the last of it. But that's a good point you made there, Bruce could have come up with something else. Instead he decided to go with it.. and its BEAUTIFUL! I hate those artists, who are trying to be original just for the absolute value of 'being original'. In classical music, do they spit on Mozart, 'cause his songs are old and worn out?

  • R.I.P. to Clarence, Bruce's sax player who passed away a few days ago. God bless those who were lost in 9/11 and other terrorist attacks around the world. We need to heed the words of this song and seek God in all we do...

  • this is the closest thing to religion that I know.

  • @oasisannie I feel exactly the same. It feeds my soul.Thank you Bruce.

  • rip clarence

  • Furchtbare Tage damals.

Aber solange es noch Typen wie den Boss gibt werde ich keine Angst vor dem Bösen haben

  • Bruce wrote this song as a tribute to Asbury Park and the demise of its once great stature....Many people equate it with 911 and while it is fitting,it was not the subject of this wonderful and moving song.

  • @TehRachet I'm an atheist. I don't believe. Having said that I have seen the emotional strength and solace it gives to those who do believe. Pray if that's your thing and it gives you what you need to go on. Donate money to give the victims the tangible support as well!

  • AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL.

  • For those in TN, AL, and GA who lost loved ones this past week; One year since the flood in Nashville. C'mon Rise Up!

  • This song and rain on the roof is the best way to go to sleep at night.

    Was ist eigentlich los?

  • For our fallen brothers and sisters in Japan, pray for this world and Japan my fellows!

  • @easton1337 Praying wont help anyone, since god doesn't exist. Donate money instead.

  • @TehRatchet It's not about god, its about the faith. To rise together to overcome hardships. Money may help many, but faith is a far greater power.

  • Missing you greatly CHCH. Returning home to a broken garden city just won't be the same. We will rebuild and be bigger and better. See you at mid-semester break CHCH. Best of luck for a fast recovery. R.I.P. to those that lost their lives in this tragedy. Special mention to Taylor and Bond's mother who didn't make it xoxoxo

  • brillant song, for all those this song has touched,, rip to all those who died in christchurch earthquake 22 feb 2011.

  • I grew up listening to Bruce Springsteen...I bought all his albums...I listened to every song he ever released...his words and music kept me company through many lonely teenage years...I always felt his songs spoke right to my heart,it was like he was just singing those songs for me...I remember listening to the entire 5 album live 75-85 records and imagined I was there at those live shows...when I actually did see him live it was a dream come true....thanks Bruce!

  • wow this song really sums up our earthquake here in new zealand ...Kia Kaha Christchurch our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with you ........heaps of aroha-nui........john ....a jaffa in auckland xoxox

  • A song for our beloved Christchurch, from one of your humble daughters. xx

  • Kia Kaha Otautahi rise UP

  • Btw, This wasnt written for 9/11, it was written for Asbury Park, New Jersey, and trying to rebuild it.

  • R.I.P To all killed in Christchurch Earthquake in my country, New Zealand 22nd February 2011.. This song really touched me when I watched it on the news tonight.

R.I.P To all killed in 9/11 also.

My Heart goes out to you all.

  • they played this song today and now the death troll is 148 dead

  • This beautiful song is now New Zealand's anthem for the earthquake victims of Christchurch and for Christchurch itself. Our city in ruins. Kia kaha Christchurch.

Rise up.....thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad and tragic time xoxox

  • Oh how this relates to Christchurch, and how sad it is, knowing of the devastation to the city and the horrendous loss of life. Keep singing, Bruce

  • This song has been played on one news and pictures are being showed of Christchurch. This song is perfect for Christchurch.

    Kia Kaha Christchurch

    Be strong

  • @westlifefan15 it is very sad when you see the people come up that are dead ah.

  • this song was played on one news for the christchurch earth quake that hit on tuesday when the 6.3 earthquake at 5km deep

  • @hamishsandwhich i saw it too, perfect song for a city in so much pain.

  • 4 people couldn't rise up

  • love this song and Bruce <3

  • I'm going to write Bruce a postcard, with a note in it tomorrow. I'm going to explain to him how and what he has done and helped me over through these years I've listened to his music. I'm only 20, turning 21 in may. And yet, I feel like I've been through a hell. In this god forsaken world, there's only 1 thing that never EVER lets you down. Not in love, not in fights. Everything that comes infront of you, it'll help you through it. It's Bruces music. Self explanatory.

  • @Hakkis109 I couldn't agree with you more, I'm 16 and this past 6 months or so, I've been listening to loads of Bruce Springsteen and I can't belive I managed to go fifteen years without his music. No matter how many times I listen to his albums, especially The Rising, songs like this still get me.

  • @Hakkis109 My friend i just wanted to say keep faith and hope alive in yourself in your heart...I too grew up listening to Bruce's music and he helped me through my teenage years and he continues to inspire me to this day and I am nearing 40...he reminds us through his music we are not alone...his music truly does connect us and speaks to our souls...

  • gorgeous

  • I think this song should have been used during Obama's speech in Tucson. We need to come together as a nation and be American's again. Rise up!

  • What a magical moment this was. I'll never forget it. Thanks, Bruce.

  • dig fot their lives,,,,

  • 2011 2012 WAKE UP USA * 2013 2014?

  • this is truly beautiful and inspiration...THE BOSS is a God!!

  • Again I say "Shame on You" ....Hate mongering and hate speech are destructive to patriotism and haven't worked in thousands of years...you are naive to think it will ever work and will never get you what you want...you may think it will, but history has shown that those who hate are ultimately destroyed, no matter how strong they seemed at the time...hate makes you no different from the extremists who caused 9/11...embrace understanding and peace

  • We listened to this in my History class.

It brought tears to my eyes. ♥

  • STOP. All of you. Thank God for every day with which you are blessed.

  • i wanted to go to this concert,,,i was working that night on world trade center tower 2,,,,,,,,,,,,,that night it was like a ghost town at ground zero,,,,those who were there were there for our brothers,,,,,dig for their lives,,,,recovery by hand,,recovery with respect,,,,,ironworker ground zero

  • This song is so touching.. giving..

Bruce as usually gave all he had to give... Thank you Bruce!

This one - without videos is all could handle. Into othe fireis wonderful as well...

Still wounds that need healing - peace---- to all who lost and need this blessing of comfort.

  • you're not american if you dislike this!!

  • wow

  • massa de ++++ adoro Bruce desde pequeno.

  • this song wasnt written about 9/11. He performed this song years before '01. Its about Asbury Park, how its shutting down and turning into an awful city. It fits perfectly though.

  • Yes, it fits perfectly. And it makes a good final track for The Rising with the last words on the album being "rise up."

  • Perfect, poignant and said all we felt. Rise up and with these hands. Thank you Bruce....

  • We live in a really unstable world.. War in the middle-east (altho it's beginning to end.) Not so long ago we had the 9/11, before that ww1, ww2, cold war, what else? Now we've got north korea threating with stuff. If only they leaders of different countries understood that they can complish nothing by killing others. Human race is bound with a curse called Greed. We want more and more, even tho we might have it all already.

  • you can not to cry while you listing to this.

  • The beginning of this song makes me cry, straight up. But when he starts saying rise up, it reminds me why I can't cry for Babylon, because once an empire grows too big for it's own good it begins to crumble under it's own weight, and whether or not the inevitable happens in a couple of years or a couple of centuries, America before 9/11 and now just aren't the same. When we are constantly paranoid, reactionary and re-writing history; the other side has already won.

  • @NolramNrets I don't feel that way at all. In some ways the healing has been and now I feel we can only get stronger for the future.

  • I remember when I was 5 years old and watching this on TV. I had no idea what 9/11 meant, or the impact on existence it would make. Now I know. Long live Bruce... Come on, rise up!!

  • 1:40-2:05 Bruce really sings his heart out. He really means it. It great to see that.

  • beautiful song

  • Still makes me tear up to this day. One of the most powerful live musical performances I've ever seen. Thank you, Bruce. This song meant so much to me (and many others) then and now.

  • @elvisglasses Amen. Exactly what I was going to say. Watching this live at that time gave me chills and tears. A great example of the power of music.

  • i love this song. It is powerful and filled with feelings. His singing allmost makes me cry.

  • BRUCE!!!

  • Eliasville. Night. The town is deserted. Lights can be seen at Doc's house and the school. A dog trots through the street.

Aaron: Well, I haven't eaten anything since breakfast.

It approaches a cat that spits and arches its back.

He sits smoking a cigarette, wearing only pajama bottoms.

  • beautiful. a true american hero

  • I find it entertaining that those who are fighting each other over the concept of God, faith, and religion are just showing ignorant either side truly is.

Religion does not cause evil. Hell, an atheist can be responsible for horrible atrocities. Look at Stalin.

Simply put, if we all have free will, why the hell do we blame religion or God for how fucked up we are?

9/11 was not about religion, it was about ideology and ideology can exist anywhere.

  • @PeterBluth

Religion can be a horrible motivation. Take islamist suicide bombers as an example. In their minds they are 100% convinced that their God is the correct one and that they will please him and go to paradise by dying for him and killing infidels. Sure, one can point at additional sociopolitical factors but blind faith is what tips the scales. Stalin didn't do anything horrible because he was an atheist. Non-belief in a deity can't be a motivation for killing millions of people.

  • @iLoveSalami I agree with that, but I'm pointing out that everyone out there behaves like religion is the be all end all of violence and human misery when it isn't. Humans cause misery among their fellow man. It's one of the down sides to having free will.

  • @PeterBluth

Then we are in agreement. ;)

  • @iLoveSalami Anything can be a horrible motivation and a horrible excuse if twisted right. Democracy and Freedom have been used as an excuse for so many killings. Atheism, likewise, was used as an excuse for so many killings in Russia.

Any and every ideology and system of group thought can be twisted to manipulate people and twisted by the delusional. Blind faith, as you call it, exists in more ideologies than just religion. The solution is not to get rid of religion.

  • @iLoveSalami The solution is not to rid the world of religion, but rather to educate people and to encourage more individualism and free thought, thought based on knowing more of the facts of the situation.

And your assertion that Stalin's atheism had nothing to do with his killings is absurd. A core tenant of Communism is the elimination of God and religion from the world. Its in the communist manifesto written by Marx. Stalin used this as an excuse for many killings.

  • @Pwells1

Your close to being right but yet you're not. Atheism is a non-belief in any deity. That alone can't motivate actions. The "elimination of God and religion" is not something that exists within the boundaries of atheism because atheism is simply not believing in God. Sure, there are atheists who want to rid the world of religion but not because they think there is no God but because they see harm in religion alone.

  • @iLoveSalami I never said Atheism as a whole was out to destroy religion. But if you can't see that Atheist thought built around figures like Dawkins and Hitchenson has formed an ideological movement and system of thought, well, then you're in denial. And if you can't see that atheism was an integral part of Communist ideology, then again, you're in denial. And if you can't see how such ideology has been used as an excuse by extremists to spread hatred against the religious, again, DENIAL

  • @iLoveSalami Atheism has become an ideological system of thought in modern time, whether you like it or not. And such thought can be used as an excuse for hatred, or be twisted and corrupted into supporting hatred, just like every other ideological system of thought.

This delusional assertion that atheism is simply the lack of religion and lack of ideology really just isn't true in the practical real world. It has become a movement like any other.

  • @iLoveSalami Additionally, like with every ideology, not everyone is at the core epicenter of the system of thought. People are all spread out with different varying levels of what they think atheism is, and each person subscribes to group thought at a different level. The same is true of religion too.

  • @Pwells1

I get your point. I think the issue here is our perception of what is an ideology and what is not. I don't believe that atheism is an ideology but you seem to do. If that's the case we have a respectful disagreement. I won't argue against the fact that there is a strong movement of atheists today but they are definitely not motivated by their non-belief in deity but, as I said, by the fact that religion can be very harmful.

  • @Pwells1

What I mean is that there's a misconception about atheism. Atheism is simply non-belief in a deity, nothing else. It is definitely no ideology.

  • @iLoveSalami You can keep saying its not an ideology all you want, but it doesn't make it true. When tons and tons of people subscribe to the system of thought layed out by Dawkins and Hitchinson, then Atheism ceases to be lack of belief and starts to be a system of thought and a movement: an ideology.

This idea that "religion can be very harmful" and needs to be erased or battled against, that's an ideological system of thought that is completely linked with nonbelief.

  • @iLoveSalami Again, not all atheists are this way. The same can be said of any ideology.

  • @Pwells1

You're still getting it all wrong. An ideology is a system of beliefs and ideas such as Stalinism or Capitalism. Atheism, I tell you for the last time, is nothing but non-belief in a deity. Are there ideologies strongly linked with atheism? Why, of course! Humanism and rationalism are two good examples of that. But all atheists do certainly not subscribe automatically to any other ideas just because they are atheists.

  • @iLoveSalami "But all atheists do certainly not subscribe automatically to any other ideas just because they are atheists." And christians do not automatically subscribe to dogmatism or any of the specific ideological tenants just because they are christians. As I said before, ideologies contain people of all types, from those who strictly follow the dogma, all the way to those who are barely associated with the ideology, and everything in between.

  • @Pwells1

All christians DEFINITELY share more than ONE specific idea or view. I challenge you to find two who don't. All atheists do not necessarily share more ideas than just the one. It's not for you to invent whole new definitions of words just because you think society has changed. I will quote the exact definitions of "ideology" and "atheism" from Cambridge's online dictionary.

  • @Pwells1

Ideology: "a theory, or set of beliefs or principles, especially one on which a political system, party or organization is based".

Atheist (there was not one for atheism alone): "someone who believes that God or gods do not exist"

  • @Pwells1

Can you see how it doesn't say "someone who believes that God or gods do not exist and who believes that religion sucks and that it should be removed from the surface of the planet and that abortion is justified and that religious people are idiots" on atheist? That's because it's simply one thing and that is non belief in one or more deities. I rest my case.

  • @iLoveSalami That's great that you say that. But many atheists do believe that religion sucks, and should be removed from the planet. That is a set of beliefs and principles. And that belief is tied completely with atheism. Just as agnosticism is tied with a doubting open mindedness.

  • @iLoveSalami Even just the denial of any possibility of a high power, and that science can solve all of man's questions, that alone is a "theory, or set of beliefs or principles," and thus even without the religion hating, atheism fits the definition of Ideology. I rest my case.

  • @iLoveSalami I don't know why you're ashamed of admitting that atheism is an ideological movement. There's really nothing wrong with it.

  • @Pwells1

I'm not gonna argue with you over the words anymore. I have shown you the text book definitions and you're still not getting it. However I will tell you of the danger of calling atheism an ideology. An argument often presented by believers is that atheism is behind as much evil as religion. That's not true simply because non-belief can't motivate people to do evil stuff, ideology on the other hand can.

  • @iLoveSalami I'm not gonna argue with YOU over the words anymore. I have shown YOU that atheism fits the text book definition, and you're still not getting it. However, I will tell you of the danger of not calling atheism an ideology. An argument often presented by atheists is that atheism is more open minded and less evil than religion. That's not true because any and all systems of thought, every ideology, not just religion, can be twisted to motivate people to do evil stuff.

  • @iLoveSalami The hate speech on line towards believers. the hate speech perpetuated by Dawkins and Hitchenson themselves, is evidence of how the system of thought that there definitely is no God and that science can solve all the mysteries of existence including philosophical and spiritual ones, is evidence of how even the atheist school of thought, an ideology like any other, can be manipulated and twisted by extremists to dignify "evil". I'm sorry this escapes you.

  • @iLoveSalami By insisting that atheism does not have ideological implications, you are acting as if converting to it makes you open minded than being a member of religion. The problem with this is that this simply isn't true. And this self delusion is what leads to the excessive amount of hate speech against the religious, and the complete ignorance about religion and believers, that we see in everyday life.

  • @iLoveSalami If you refuse to admit that you are still part of an ideological system, then extremism can run that much more rampant without impediment. And then, it is that much easier for you to be ignorant, because you are deluding yourself into thinking you are open minded and thinking for yourself, when really you are still influenced by group mentality as much as anyone else.

  • @iLoveSalami I suggest you watch Matrix Reloaded. HIGHLY flawed film, but its all about this. Neo thought he was out of the matrix and free, but really he was still just following orders and doing what he was told and being just as dogmatic when he was in Zion as when he was in The Matrix. The One was just another system of control.

And Atheism, no matter how free you pretend it is, has ideological implications like any other movement of thought.

  • @Pwells1

I give up. You are by far the thickest person I've ever discussed something with. And I'm not saying that to end the argument in an unfair way and run away. I simply can't argue with someone who will invent new definitions of words to fit his own theories.

  • @iLoveSalami I give up. I haven't reinvented any definitions whatsoever. You are indeed ending the argument in an unfair way by pretending I am the thick one. I simply can't argue with someone who will pretend that atheism isn't a system of thought just like any other movement, and doesn't have ideological implications. Completely closed minded like every other extremist internet atheist. Keep hating on religion whilst being a complete hypocrite.

  • @Pwells1

The key is that Atheism is about one and only one idea whereas ideologies contain a whole set of ideas. You wouldn't call non-belief in unicorns (perhaps Aunicornism) an ideology. In the end it's a matter of definition and I can assure that if you had any understanding of the words "ideology" or "atheism" we wouldn't be having this discussion. Get a dictionary.

  • @iLoveSalami You can keep saying that all you want, but as long as Dawkins and Hitchenson are at the head of the movement, and several atheists express and spread several of their life ideals (that religion is responsible for many of the world's evils, that religion serves no purpose in modern society other than to hinder progress, that science can provide all the answers to the world, including spiritual and philosophical ones, etc) then Atheism is indeed an ideological movement. SORRY

  • @iLoveSalami I plainly comprehend the words ideology and atheism. It seems you are the one who is COMPLETELY ignorant of the implications of both in modern society.

  • Stalin was a Crypto Jew.

"The Bolshevik Revolution in Russia was the Work of Jewish Brains, Jewish Dissatisfaction and Jewish Planning, whose goal is to create a New Order in the world.

What was performed in so excellent a way in Russia, thanks to Jewish Brains and Jewish planning, shall also, through the same mental and Physical forces, Become a reality all over the world."

    -American Hebrew, September 8, 1920

"Some call it Marxism — I call it Judaism." (US Bulletin, Rabbi S. Wise, May 1935

  • @PeterBluth Your argument is flawed. Stalin didn't commit his atrocities in the name of 'Atheism'. He commited it in the name of dogma, in his case communist dogma. In this sense communism is very similar to religion because it compels people do things without reason and actually rewards them for doing so.

Of course an atheist can commit crimes. The difference is Atheists don't commit murder in the name of their non-belief in 'god'.

  • @artisthespoonman I never said he committed those crimes in the name of Atheism. I said that he was an atheist who commited crimes. I was pointing out that murder in the name of anything is wrong. We have to stop blaming religion and the actions of a minority in religions and blame ourselves for the crimes we commit.

  • @PeterBluth Religion is just another thing we use to divide people and you can get soft headed people to do much if you put "because god wants it" or "because you will go to heaven/paradise" Humanity would do well to leave the fairytales to history.

  • @DWDave67 I don't think you're right, so I'm going to give you a quote that was written by Alan Moore. " It is not God who kills the children. Not fate that butchers them or destiny that feeds them to the dogs. Its us. Only us."

  • @PeterBluth Yes, people do the killing... in many instances in the name of "god". There is not bigger motivator for manipulative leaders to get other people to kill for their purposes than to to use "god". Histroy shows this to be true... We used it, Popes, Imans, Rabis have used it. Sad thing to use fairy tales to kill

  • @DWDave67 Yeah, but they can just as easily say "no" in the name of God. You have be seriously distrubed to kill because a human, a falliable creature, said "This is what God wants."

  • @PeterBluth So let me get this straight... you come up with little education... everything you are taught tells you this is the only way to god... society puts incredible pressure on you to believe and your response... just say no??? Please PeterBluth... god is a business and nothing more.

  • @DWDave67 Yes. I can say no to anyone, regardless of pressure. I have an idea that if someone says "Kill this person, and you'll find God", I'll tell them, "Screw off". There are a million ways to get to God, I choose the less-violent idea.

  • @DWDave67 To put it in other terms, people will still kill each other for any cause they fill fulfills them. It can be God, it could be anything. The simple thing to do is keep ones beliefs to themself.

  • @PeterBluth And the world would be a better place if people did that very thing. On that we are in agreement. Farewell.

  • @DWDave67 So, let's leave it at that because this debate is getting rather trite. Neither of us is going to bend, so I bid you farewell.

  • @artisthespoonman It's really that simple. But most people wish to asign blame to things they don't agree with or other some other asinine reason. If free will exisists, than humnaity needs to take responsibility. Don't blame an orginization, don't blame a deity, blame yourself.

  • Thank you Bruce. My fellow New Yorkers appreciate it.

  • Well, I don't know much about Islamic history, but Christianity is a spin off of Judaism, and Christianity I know, has done some good things.

Yeah, there were bad things in there (like the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre by the Catholic Church, and the Crusades, etc.). BUT, things like hospitals, orphanages, Salvation Army, Red Cross. Those things came out of Christianity/Christian thinking.

I'm proud to be a part of that, even if some messed up people do *EVIL* things in "God's Name."

  • @GoodMonster786 Islam, too, sprang from Mohammed's encounter with Judaism and Christianity, which he and his followers regarded as incomplete expressions of what Islam was to fulfill; flawed, in Mohammed's view, but still righteous steps on the way (I'm not muslim, but a historian, so just offering the background). In Turkey, you can find mosques called the "Isa Bey Cami" (Lord Jesus Mosque). So, if you like, Islam, too, was a "spinoff" of Christianity and Judaism.
