  • Performing the song in Las Vegas in 1969, Elvis did one of his occasional lyric changes, from "Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there?" to "Do you gaze at your bald head and wish you had hair?"

Then he noticed a bald man in the audience, and was reduced to hysterics.

  • Sure do miss him

  • Hi there, finally my gratitude and thanks for the nice and kind words. Thanks for updating the title. Sorry for some words that might have been unkind. I must say, you are very gentle. I admit, there is no live video of it, thought I had it, but after carefully watching it proved to be fake too.

Condsidering that, your video is a nice thing to see and to hear. So my warm thanks for it!

By the way, I think this great performer is just reacting to the lady singing in the background... she's #@!

  • @ruudtes Just so that you don't burn yourself on that fresh, piping hot cup of coffee, I've put a warning label on the outside of the container for you. It reads: Careful - filling is hot. That being said, I put the words "Live Audio" in the title of this piece as to not confuse anyone else. Thank you for showing me the error of my ways. Take care.

  • @ruudtes I forgot to tell you that I, too, have searched for the video footage and have discovered that there IS NO known Video footage of said performance.... I seriously thank you for watching, and no ill-feelings intended. Take care and have a great weekend.

  • @ruudtes Not sure why such venom floats my way, but what is fake about this? It's REALLY Elvis' live audio recording set to a slide show of the REAL Elvis. I surely would like to know what is fake and/or rubbish about it? If you know where I can get live video of this performance, I'd love to see it. Take care.

  • Elvis fans, please, recognise the case for coherence. This song was recorded in1927 by Vaughn de Leath. Make a tribute for her!

  • @willpm100 - Hey, good idea. I didn't know who - if anybody - did this song pre-Elvis. I'll look her up!

  • @kincaide67 On youtube you´ll find her singing this song. Look up on wikipedia.

  • @willpm100 Thanks. I did - I found her version of this as well as her other songs! very good indeed. Thanks for the head's up. If you're not a particular Elvis fan, you'll find she does the best version of this song. If you are a Elvis fanatic, you might think he does the best version. Either way, it's up for grabs. Thanks again for the suggestion.

  • @kincaide67 You´re welcome!. Old times idols should not be forgotten cos all the musical knowledge belongs to them.

  • Johnny, everything's fine, now. Just hearin' 'Are you laughin' tonight?', no other versions.

  • @DaveWollenberg Great to hear that!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OK, Johnny. It's fine, except ther's some echo here. There's 2 different versions mixed in.

  • Kincaid, what on earth happened here? That audio was taken off! Listen to it yourself, and, please get back to me on it!

  • @DaveWollenberg Hey, watching it now and it's fine here. What country are you watching from...? The music is blocked in a lot of countries outside of the States. Nevertheless, I'm sorry you can't enjoy this whenever you want. Take care and let me know. - Johnny

  • This song was recorded in 1927, by Vaughn De Leath (The First Lady of Radio). Elvis is the king of cover versions.

  • @ruudtes Never stated the video was live or a live video performance! The audio HOWEVER is a live recording of the real live (at the time anyway) Elvis on a real stage in front of a living audience. Sorry for your extreme confusion at such a concept. That being said, we hope you are enjoying your Tucks, Betty.

  • Elvis is too bored singing all his hit songs all over again, anyway i enjoyed all his records since i was 8 yrs old.

  • pure magic...........

  • Straight studio version was Billboard's 81st #1 hit of the rock era. God bless! RIP, King Elvis!

  • Thanx for the full version, complete with Elvis sayin' '14 years, right down the drain!' God bless ya for doin' that!

  • @DaveWollenberg Thank you SO much for watching!!!!

  • @kincaide67 You're very welcome.Just proves that the King had a sense of humor, just like everybody else. Have a great Memorial Day!

  • Elvis is so THE KING ..What a cool guy he was ..A generous heart and Soul , I have met lots of his family and friends and people who worked with him..Not a bad word for him at all , a very decent man..Please don't believe all the shit in the Media and myths ..he was really a good man ..loved his parents and family and gave millions to the needy and less well off than himself.. LOVE YOU EP XXX

  • I think that ghastly backup singer and the bald man are making him crack up... I love that he had an awesome sense of humor "thats it man 14 years went down the drain, i tellya" hahahaha

  • I'd like to see him wearing Levis and boots!

  • I hate when he is laughing...sorry, but it's dumb...

  • @1234oldaa

Shut the hell up. You know you want his dick.

  • Whatever he was la da dada....... humming at the beginning of the song is also very pretty......

  • @ehollier

He's humming to the start of his English-language version of the Italian classic Turna a Surriento, which was called Surrender.

  • @ehollier

At the start of this he is humming the English-language version of the Italian classic Turna a Surriento, which was called Surrender.

  • what a laugh.....he so cracks me up everytime i hear this....added to my favs 5 stars and thumbs up...thanks for the upload and sharing :-)) presleysking is....tcb

  • Nothing like his laughter......and you can't fake a good belly laugh!!!

  • how come you cant find the footage to go along with this anywhere?

  • i have been lookin for this for years and neva thought i would find it here!! still makes me laugh everytime i hear it... just shows Elvis as a human with humor!!

  • I have never head such a joyous delightful amazing laugh as Elvis'. That's why it is so contagious... it rises up from so deep inside...it is so pure...and goes straight to your heart and funny bone. God love that man.. :D.... Those who knew Elvis well all say they miss his laughter ;)

  • Either Elvis forgot the words, or the opera singer's just too much for him. XDXD

  • Btw I heard a rumor that the lady singing soprano is Whitney Houston's mom. Has anyone else heard this?

  • Wonderful song! I laugh till I cry everytime I hear this song! There is live footage of this song around somewhere, my mom saw it when she was young. Apparently there is a man in the front row flipping his toupee at Elvis while he is singing. I believe the footage is in the hands of a private collector and that's why I hasn't been officially released. I will keep on hoping and searching for footage. God bless!

  • sory bebe ! Ha ha !

  • super

  • Whatever he was smokin, I wish I some.

  • +1 it"s a king

  • el mejor elvis.

  • @had1223 oh dear mate. what i'm saying is that Elvis was a good looking man. If you couldn't even pick that up. Then may God help you haha!

  • good god elvis was a sexy man.

  • @antonWS888 Yeah - I don't think a guy has to be gay to admit that's Elvis is a good lookin sonuvabitch! LOL.

  • @kincaide67 exactly! im a straight dude, but when someone like this comes along, it just has to be appreciated! :P

  • @kincaide67 Not wrong there,i am not gay but will admit he is a good looking guy....Shhhhh don't tell anyone lol.

  • @MrMick6363 I've just alerted all the major media outlets as well as a few not-so-major tabloids!!! It's all over now. You might end up on GLEE next season! Ha ha ha....

  • @antonWS888 you got that right

  • He was a terrible actor that enjoyed a cheeseburger or ten; but he had a fantastic voice and a decent sense of humour!

  • @Stevemino I wouldn't say terrible. The first 4 films (pre-army) are acted rather good. The ones after - well, let's just say he didn't really try. There was no reason to try anyhow. The directors and producers didn't want anything other than fluff. Too bad.

  • @Stevemino Actually I think he preferred peanut butter, banana sandwiches... With Bacon. :)

  • @Stevemino ...HAHAHAHAHA@cheesburger or ten..oh man thats funny stuff.

  • @Stevemino He was not terrible at all......his charisma took over the whole screen....just bad scripts he was obligated to legally....If he had only lived long enough to have had the chance for quality movie roles....he would have been dynamite!

  • @Stevemino he was alot better actor then you think

  • Does anybody know the name of the song, he's humming in the beginning of the vid??

  • @kazimir2aranov - On the CD it's labeled as "Surrender." He only hums a few bars at the beginning and then stops for whatever reason. He probably never intended on doing the song, but wanted to fill the silence while they were getting ready for "Lonesome." Plus his great sense of humour!

  • @kincaide67 It sounds to me a bit like the song that Fletcher kept singing in the BBC sitcom Porridge. It started - and I guess this was the title - see the pyramids across the Nile

  • @kazimir2aranov its caled surender

  • @dieselmorgan o really.. did't know that till now! thank you so much!!!! THANKS 4 THE REPOST!!!!1

  • 0:41, hot suit!

  • Vicky

Merci Elvis pour cette chanson, elle est génial quoiqu'y aie pu se passer quand vous la chantiez, voix et physique sublimes

  • @GRAVAJFOCQ Thank you, I guess. I don't understand French. Thanks for watching. Take care.

  • Reason for uncontrolled laughing, a man in the front row of this show had a toupee that fell off right in the middle of this song!

  • me and me mum cyr wiv laffter every tym wen we listened 2 this sng

  • GREAT SONG!!!

Do you gaze at your bald head

  • Elvis had the warmest voice and I think could sing anything/ pity his manager restricted him so much as I am sure he would have attempted all kind of music.

  • I do agree the backing singer was very inconsiderate to surpass the solo voice and deserves to be laughed at for sure!!!

  • He laughs because he changed the lyrics to " do you gaze at your BALD HEAD and wish you had hair"...and the singer didnt care ... He was like that when he stars laughing he just couldnt stop...I LOVE YOU FOREVER...THE ONE AND ONLY KING

  • @giseliu ....... because with elvis flaws are more apreciated at times , lol cause hes always been perfect

  • Tintinesk2 is right, the backup singer was making him laugh

  • i think he is laughing because the female backing singer sings so horribly. her vocals are very high and nearly out of tune.

  • @plerimest I heard that there was a lady that was rushing the stage and ran into a man that had a toupee(hair piece) on that flew off his head.

  • elvis laughing on stage and having fun. his 1977 version of this has beeen severly criticized because of how he looked. the act of the matter was that he was having fun on 77 as well. cstanchik

  • @CSTANCHIK I agree. I don't think he ever liked doing this song live. There's maybe 1 or 2 live performances of this song out there that are complete without him cracking up. Even on the 1968 Elvis special, he doesn't do this song correctly. 1977 version is just Elvis (yes, albeit drugged) being Elvis and having fun. He didn't mess up because of his condition.

  • For those wondering why Elvis laughed his head of during this crazy 26-8-69 midnight show (yes, the famous laughing version) THE REASON is Millie Kirkham's insistant high singing, she keeps singing undeterred, after Elvis laughed a first time. Each time she hits a high note, he starts to laugh again.. and again.. he can't stop himself.

  • The reason he broke into laughter was that several fans rushed to the front of the stage and knocked another fan's wig off as they rushed past him !!

  • Lol

Ez annyira nagy! Engem is mindig elfog a nevetés. Bár láthatnám az arcát is ! :D

  • haaaahaaa ah when you laugh the world laughs with ya , nice one Elvis my man ! haaahaaaa !

  • Yeah - this track will clear away any blues one might have...thanks for watching. Take care.

  • I agree. And I don't believe he wasn't stoned when he was performing this gig. Elvis did kid and joke around on stage when performing, no question there. But normally he was serious about his performances and never acted like this. Ever. At least that's my opinion.

  • @kincaide67

There is a video version. I've seen it myself on tv, but I can't find. He is on a small round stage, very informal. He is so beautiful with his laughter. I really hope someone can find it. Thank you so much for posting this video.

  • awsome!!! I'm can't belive! this song is great and his laughter... God is fantastic!!

    thanks for this video!!

  • thnak you for watching!

  • I remember hearing the "Do you gaze at your bald head..." line on the live part of his "That's The Way It Is" album

  • I was there he was laughing cause his shoe was tied wrong

  • he is laughin coz he sings do u gaze at ure bald head and wish u had hair and no one in the band notices and they keep playing

  • i THOUGHT IT WAS COS THE BACKING SINGER WAS OUT OF TUNE!!! and if ever unhappy listen to think u can't help but laugh!! xxx

  • I wish I really knew why he started - but I'm just thankful that he did laugh. You're right - this is the cure all for a blue day!

  • I think he started laughing cos there was a bald man in the front row, thats what I heard anyway

  • Thanks to God for Elvis=)))))

  • Génial. Merci beaucoup! Thanks a lot for your explaination. Fisrt time I heard Elvis laughing like that, I Loved him more... It's a pleasure to heard him laughing again. :D

  • During live performances, Elvis would occasionally change the lyrics just

to be funny. One popular instance was recorded in Las Vegas in 1969. During

the performance, instead of singing, "Do you gaze at your doorstep and

picture me there?" he sings, "Do you gaze at your bald head and wish you had

hair?" Then he burst into laughter which continued into the next lines.

  • Meanwhile the band and backup singers continued to keep the song going.

Hearing the solo backing singer, whose falsetto remained resolute throughout,

Elvis was again overcome by laughter. So overtaken, Elvis encourages the

backup singer to, "Sing it, baby," drawing even more laughter which nearly

brings the house down. Elvis sais at the end, "That's it, man, fourteen years

right down the drain...boy, I'll tell ya."

  • yeah - that's what's great about Elvis (one thing anyway) - he always performed like the audience was in on the jam session with him. Not so serious - if he flubbed a lie - so what. Always playin around with the lyrics and the performers. Brilliant. Let's everyone in on the excitement.

  • info from: mp3lyrics site.

  • what was the name of the female background singer

  • Comment removed

  • I would like to see the real video of this concert, to see him laughing and see the girl singing =)

  • oh man, that would be the best!!!!

  • I heard he was laughing because when he sang about bald head a man in the front row stood up and took his toupee off and everyone laughed..

  • some nice photos not seen before, thank you.

  • I love this version. Wish it were available on video. I'd get it jsut to get that song version. Elvis' laughter is contagious.

  • Are you shure this is '69 ?

Anywayz, I wish the man was still alive!

  • Yeah - 26 August 1969 - the midnight show at the Las Vegas International Hotel. There's a full disc of material from that night's shows, but this is by the far the most unique.

  • ? He is still alive, you can detect him with one of those Elivis detectors

  • -thanks :-S !

  • His laugh is awesome haha

i think he was laughing at the bald guy in front, then at the backup singer =P

  • They don't make em like Elvis anymore.

  • listened yesterday to the radio... god... his laugh is beautyful

  • We love you, Elvis!!!

  • 1:28 It's so funny!

  • I saw elvis sing this song on cable TV back in the early 90's. Wish I could find the footage. He's laughing because he messed up the words then the back up singer was distracting him. It was so funny to watch!

  • Damn, that would be the best thing in the world to see. I'll have to do research on that! Thanx.

  • God I miss this man!!!! HE was the most true artist I've ever seen and heard:D

  • Yes, I have to agree with you. There was a lot of life lived way too quickly. Not too many people know how to deal with such talent.

  • really? That's a great story! Thanx for sharing.

  • Thanks for posting this.I often gaze at my bald head....

  • i love his laugh..really wish i was alive when he was. it would have been amazing!

  • haha :D elvis You are the Best King I Love You

    Was Very Funnyyyyyyyyy

  • cool

  • "lalaldedededududud thank you" lolz

  • This is really heartfelt. Funny and heartfelt. Feels like he's laughing with you. Great!!
