Poor rhythm. This is a Gregorian chant, and should be almost all the notes of the same length, rather than the dotted rhythm. (exception is the mora, the neuma with a dot)
I've found (and I've heard) this version just before easter 2011... And I'm living in "full enchantment" since then. I'm the leader of a little chatolic choir in Hungary, and I wonder if I got the score of this wonderful piece (even for fee / money /etc...) !! Is it possible ?? :) Many thanks in advance !!! (if my english is bad : sorry...)
TO THOSE WHO DO NOT CARE FOR THE RHYTHMIC PERFORMANCE STYLE:
See: Notes inégales at Wikipedia Singing the chant in this style with such a huge number of vocal resources and in such a live reverberant space is practical, especially if assembly is singing with choir. It is much easier to keep everyone together vocally than singing straight chant. It also allows for more uniform breathing. This "pulsing" inegale style is easy for most people to feel.
The rhythm is interesting. I presume it is drawn from the medieval rhythmic modes, but richly harmonized with the organ alternations in a neo-romantic style. Quite effective as the Easter Sequence. I love the octave doublings at the end. My choir sings the plainchant in a Solesmes style.
This is what it's going to sound like in the church that God goes to on Sunday mornings in heaven........... Thank you so much for sharing this dazzlingly beautiful example of a slice of Heaven on Earth.
this is sooo amazing! im not chatolic or somthing like that but I like gregorian chant and organ play! someone can tell me where can I donwload this song?in this version pleaseee
Easter Sequence. Superb chorus, the largest organ in France, and the exquisite acoustics of the second greatest Cathedral dedicated to Our Lady (after the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome).
Victimae Paschali laudes immolent Christiani.Agnus redemit oves: Christus innocens Patri reconciliavit peccatores.Mors et vita duello conflixere mirando: dux vitae mortuus, regnat vivus.Dic nobis Maria, Quid vidisti in via?Sepulcrum Christi viventis, et gloriam vidi resurgentis,Angelicos testes, s...udarium et vestes.Surrexit Christus spes mea: praecedet suos in Galilaeam.[Credendum est magis soli Mariae veraci Quam Judaeorum Turbae fallaci.
it's a wonderful master piece, brings me back memories from school. I went in catholic high school and it was our favorite Victimae paschali .We loved it to sing it every Easter morning in Cluj-Napoca. And Paris is a wonderful place, it's magic :D:D:D
I've just been on pilgrimage to the Holy Land and this inspired me as I went. Thank you so much! It's also one of my favourite chants from seminary on Easter Sunday. Thank You!
Victimae paschali laudes immolent Christiani. Agnus redemit oves: Christus innocens Patri reconciliavit peccatores. Mors et vita duello conflixere mirando: dux vitae mortuus, regnat vivus. Dic nobis Maria, quid vidisti in via?
Sepulcrum Christi viventis, et gloriam vidi resurgentis: Angelicos testes, sudarium, et vestes. Surrexit Christus spes mea: praecedet suos in Galilaeam. Scimus Christum surrexisse a mortuis vere: tu nobis, victor Rex, miserere. Amen. Alleluia.
May you praise the Paschal Victim, immolated for Christians. The Lamb redeemed the sheep: Christ, the innocent one, has reconciled sinners to the Father. A wonderful duel to behold, as death and life struggle: The Prince of life dead, now reigns alive. Tell us, Mary Magdalen, what did you see in the way? I saw the sepulchre of the living Christ, and I saw the glory of the Resurrected one: The Angelic witnesses, the winding cloth, and His garments. The risen Christ is my hope:
I would LOVE to be inside Notre Dame during the singing of this sequence!!! The thunderous blast of the organ, the glorious acoustics, the angelic choir, the rising smoke of incense, and the earth quaking under my feet!
@lightflavour12: in the Easter Sunday of 2010, Lefebvre plays this Prose "more powerful". I upload this version in youtube (Victimae paschali laudes & alleluia). Sorry for my poor english.

@luudi1 Actually, the French have always had a more rhythmic way of chanting than the Italians.

This is indeed Pierre Cochereau playing--it exists on a CD of him and the choir singing other chants.

Salve. Non riesco a capire se il testo cantato segue il
testo latino. Dopo che il coro dice: "Victimae paschali
laudes immolent Christiani", dovrebbe continuare dicendo:
"Agnus redemit oves: Christus innocens Patri reconciliavit
peccatores." Ma ascoltando il testo non riesco a sentire
questo verso. Dicono qualcos'altro?

Bonjour. Je ne comprende pas si le texte chanté suit la
texte latin. Après que le chœur dit: «Victimae paschali
laudes immolent Christian", il devrait poursuivre en disant:
"Agnus redemit oves: Christus innocens Patri reconciliavit
peccatores. " Mais je ne peut pas entendre ce verset. Ils disent quelque chose d'autre?
