I understand what you mean. But this is a show dance, not a competitive routine. Many of their fancy movements are indeed variations of basic rumba figure. This routine certainly has Fan, Alamana, Rumba walk, sliding door, hip twist, etc.
Yes. This is a show dance. IMO, I've never impressed by Karina's techniques. For me, she is a very expressive and sensual dancer. And she can sell the program, but not in the same level as Joanna or Yulia when it comes to techniques. Look at her rumba walk btw 1:37 and 1:40( I don't know if she did rumba walks or not, but IMO it should be.). Do you really think her rumba walks look great? I believe Carmen does better than that.
Now a knock out couple would be Karina and Bryan Watson! Since Karina won't dance with Slavik : ( only If they both still competed that would be incredible =O

I like Yulia and Karina, but I don't know why... I never was moved as much by Yulia. Her lines are great and her quality of movement is superb, but there's a performance and rawness that Karina has more of. Karina's the one that inspired me to dance in the first place. To me she represents the authenic Latin dancer.
Yulia is good. She definately has awesome technique and everything..but she simply looks fake to me. She keeps smiling and then does all the right expressions for every movement and its all synced. but Karina... she does everything naturally everything is real... Like when she dances rumba you can totally believe she loves slavik with all her heart.. and yulia.. is just a dancer.
Every muscle in Karina's body tells the story. She has the most expressive face, her eyes, her hands, even her fingertips are moving in harmony. There is none other than Karina. None! Yulia is wonderful, no question about it but Karina is complete. To the poster that said she was just technique, I agree about Joanna but you shouldn't have included Karina in that. Karina gives everything to her performances. Everything.
@dkern008 i'm very sorry to say, but it is quite visible they are missing something. often people call this missing thing "chemistry" which can be quite a lot actually. compare this rumba to the one he has danced with anna melnikova, and you can see they have much more chemistry together.

They need to get back together. With Bryan and Karmen gone, they would be the number one for sure. Set aside personal differences and do one for the dance!

I love her....i was so sad when i heard that her and slavik broke up.He is god now with ELena but she can not dance and look like this.I love that part on 1:48...she is absolutely the best girl in latin dances...

Two rumba routines from Katrina are my definitely favorite. Yulia's Qinqin samba is my favorite samba so far. Love both dancers!!!
