  • South Africa should join Argentina and Brasil in the defense development. Together they can came up with a great arms industries.

  • @Wild33r South Africa and Brasil already have several joint developments underway of which some is near completion.BRICS!!!

  • moron music

  • Not as sophisticated as most other designs, but in those kinds of conditions reliability and ease of maintenance is more important.

  • 16 Sqr was an Alouette squadron out of Port Elizabeth when I was a kid. They seem to have stepped up a bit.

  • 1:46 NEIN!!

  • German music does not justify these owned capabilities of an incompetent government.

  • Love the Rooivalk!

  • Haha ''Rammpenstein'' ;)

    Groeten uit Holland.

  • South Africans messed up with this chopper. It took too long, was overpriced, and now has out dated avionics. Unit price is over $40 million. For this price 3 KA-52 or MI-28 or 2 AH-64's can be bought, and they are more modern. There is no export market for this chopper.

  • Back when SA was still a contender my dad said that it is just one highly technical computer that stood between the Rooivalk beeing the best but the fuckin Yanks told the company that supplied this that they cant sell it to the Boertjies...

LOVE TO HATE US POLITICS AND BULLSHIT!

  • I always wonder why, the Europeans have ban this Attack helicopter from EU airshows, now i see why !!!

  • @MrJeffreydunson Ask the Americans where they got the look&fire technology from, Jeffrey. I don't want to squabble, but in all honesty, do yourself a favour and look it up. I stood amazed. The Canadians even supplied some of the G6 barrels used in SADF artillery in angola. I was there 85 to 89 - we received 7.62 lmg barrels stamped 'GENERAL MOTORS' of all things. Things are not always as it seems. But it does not compete with an apache, I have been in Iraq and have first hand experience.

  • @Yamaauw Yup and I remember getting "GPS coordinates and satellite information in the bush on our position and SWAPO's / Cubans & ANC from the Americans over the radio...when we "wen't in Angola" (that was in the late 80's) So, between Canadian barrels, US eyes in the sky and Israeli weapons we were fighting the Cold War actually

  • @TheMacAtilla Your right the so called arms embargo was just a smokescreen. I can remember unmarked Starlifters flying into Silvermine during the 80's dropping of who knows what. And the twin afterburning jets flying out of Waterkloof AFB. South Africa has newer had twin afterburning jets.

  • Yup and I remember getting "GPS coordinates and satellite information in the bush on our position and SWAPO's / Cubans & ANC from the Americans over the radio...when we "wen't in Angola" (that was in the late 80's) So, between Canadian barrels, US eyes in the sky and Israeli weapons we were fighting the Cold War actually

  • The good thing about the way South Africa has developed their weapons systems, is that it is absolutely tailor made for the African environment, as well as the type's of hostile engagements normally faced. A good example is the Rooikat and Ratel armoured vehicles that used a wheeled arrangement for high mobility. Same thing with the Rooivalk.. easy to maintain with a small ground crew and more than adequate for total air dominance.

  • I am getting tired of South Africa, it is a beautiful country, God but you people are filthy (both whites and blacks). Whenever someone tries to have a sensible conversation about your country, it always turns into racist shit. WTF. its as though South Africans have nothing better to do than bash on each other. It is always Black vs White. From a neutral perspective I think South Africa is economically better than it was during Apartheid. its annoying for everything to turn into a racial issue

  • @thexerxes25 i can't tell if your trolling or just stupid.

  • @ihaveanaccnow haha, i agree

  • @thexerxes25 you have no idea what the ANC have done to SA if you think that, on an economic perspective, SA is better than under aparthied. The crime, corruption and poverty has increased exponentially since the ANC took over and that's for blacks too. Also, a lot of economic growth in SA is purely due to a lift of economic sanctions and by no means any talents of the ANC. Read current reviews of SA by the London Times if you think I'm just another racist South African.

  • @thexerxes25 Hey came to South Africa your cunt then you will see what the fucking kaffirs will do to you!

  • @thexerxes25 Please don't talk about this subject until you have actually lived in South Africa for more than two years. Shove your 'neutral perspective'. Now, let me get this straight, I hate the ANC with a passion. "Waah waaah racist!" No, not at all. I hate the political party and the people in positions of power. Who gives a shit about what the colour of your skin is? ALL I WANT IS A GOVERNMENT THAT CAN DO IT'S JOB! IRRESPECTIVE OF COLOUR! It is just so frustrating that they do nothing...

  • @RatherEpicPotato I think that is my point. The ANC is terrible, the way black South Africans treat other africans (imigrants) is terrible. Can't we all just get along

  • it has a vague resemblence to a eurocopter tiger or an agusta a129

  • Alot of "rascist" talk on youtube is done by agents provocateur, they are making money by turning people away from certain sites and providing false "truth" on others. And some jerks will do anything to ruin someones day, usually police and medical workers from my experience. The best response is to ignore them, if you go after them, they will usually inform the police, even if they are big-time gangsters, and they will play the victim.

  • Comment removed

  • @solminicJoseph Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The rooivalk looks like a Huey Cobra, which is over 30 years old! Dumbass!

  • I love, love, love the camo on this....i have a complete suit of the camo, called rooivalk too, made by BE-X

  • name of song anyone please?

  • @NZxASSASSIN Rammstein - Du Hast

  • @GeFlous thanks

  • what a beautyful country to fly an awesome machine over it

  • So on average how many kills do you get from each machine? I think you would need a very high kill ratio per machine to justify the price.

  • cliche military video music, why not use Seether? they are a South African band doing well internationally

  • Best attack chopper IMO :D

  • cool helicopter, shitty song.

  • Rooivalk and Rammstein...nice...

  • Its amazing that such a small country in Africa can build this,, too bad the government sucks now

  • @novak458 haven't you heard of the saab gripen? Sweden's population is like 4 times smaller and they built a fighter used by 4 countries

  • @novak458 Belgium is a LOT smaller and yet it's one of the biggest weapons producer in whole Europe... size doesn't really matter.

  • @AKAtheA Thats true but your in the heart of industrial Europe, not on the tip of a third world continent,,,, but you do make good stuff

  • @novak458 south africa isnt really a small country...

  • @novak458 South africa isn't that small and we still have the best bush warfare units in the world!

  • @appleseed76 AAAAAgh not any more!

  • @novak458 true dat. south africa was once feared of becoming the most powerful nation on earth. now it's up in ruins.

  • The South African RooiValk Attack helo.

Has the most advanced weapon and electronics systems on any attack helo in the world. Including all of the U.S attack choppers except the Comanche gunship.

It can also turn upside down and do full 360 barrel rolls. The Cobra and Apache can not do that! It is truly amazing to watch doing maneuvers!

    Hehe! :)

  • @Wild007Will I doubt it's more advanced than the Tiger

  • @Wild007Will just so you know commanche was cancelled so you cant use it in comparison as it was never built past prototype stages.

  • Good old 16 Sqr. They had a detachment deployed to Port Elizabeth in the 80's. They flew Alo's and Puma. We were very proud of our SAAF guys in PE.

  • Can't wait for the new ones to be released on Monday. Rooivalk 1F by Denel Aviation is being released with 104 new upgrades, I saw it at AAD2010 today and it is impressive

  • Pakistan and Turkey was pretty much interested in it on transfer of technology basis but Tiger caught the eye of Turks as it necessary for them to buy a european made product inorder to reveal herself as a loyal EU country. where as Pakistan lacks funds and are satisfied with there Ah1z's Cobras ...... Fate of Denel Copter is quite bleak though its been maintainence friendly piece of equipment

  • @PanzerKiel1 ur info is wrong, turk's bought the Italian Mangusta

  • This helicopter isn't so great. They only built 12, most of them do not work and they have no money to fix them. Denel, the company that makes them is on the verge of bankruptcy and is a shell of its former self. Most of the Afrikaners that kept that company running are gone. S. Africa used to be a good sized player in the arms market but no longer.

  • @stalkingalizee Ok, you're saying this helicopter isnt so great BECAUSE Denel is NOW bankrupt ? The Rooivalk was designed when Denel was at its best.

  • @stalkingalizee You have no proof and I think you got the information from some unreliable source. Do you ever read the DOD South Africa and by the way has produced Rooivalk 1F and check out the AAD 2010. Do not rely on unconfirmed reports.

  • @MrAutlwetse The info comes from Jane's Defence. 16 squadron only has 4 operational Rooivalks. 1F has not been certified and has been delayed for years due to lack of funds. Denel has been operating in the red for the last decade. The SANDF is poorly underfunded and cannot afford to buy its own weapons. They wasted what little they had on useless Gripens.

  • @stalkingalizee I agree with you that the squandron has only 4 operational fleet. Read the Defence Web "The Block 1F platform will from mid-month be subjected to an accelerated flying programme of some 200 hours at the SAAF Test Flight & Development Centre .................................................

  • @MrAutlwetse What they want to happen and what will happen are two different things. The one constant fact in this universe is that cash strapped R&D rarely get the funding to complete their projects unless there is prospect for export. The Rooivalk has none as France makes its engines and does not want a competitor to Le Tigre.

  • @stalkingalizee From your first comment, i don't really think it is a question of the SANDF being underfunded. I believe the government can chip in and see to it that the air force is efficiently equipped especially that its involved in several peace keeping missions. May be at the taxpayer's expense?who knows The truth of the matter is the SANDF did not want to use the rooivalk from the start and it just doesn't want to disclose the whole information...............

  • @MrAutlwetse Rooivalk was meant to be exported, its failure to secure orders is why it is underfunded. SA really doesn't have any external threats anymore. Neighbours only have rusted Soviet junk.

  • @stalkingalizee

did the angolans or any other army of blacks ever operate tanks in battle against the SADF?

  • @yuri60014 Most of the Bush Wars went without tanks. Cuito Cuanavale is the only major use of tanks thanks to Cuba, and then they rarely saw the enemy.

  • @stalkingalizee there is always a threat my friend ... havent you heard the saying : ''better to have and not need than to need and not have''

try ordering 20 attack helicopters, 200 tanks, 50 fighters etc etc. as soon as your intelligence finds evidence that neighbouring countries are planning a mass invasion ... lets see how many years it will take before all your equipment arrives from manufacturing (obviously after you are flying a new flag)

  • @GraffitiBombing247

So please tell me what country bordering S. Africa has placed a new order for tanks?

  • @stalkingalizee I wouldnt know and i dont care honestly, looking at human history, no one really single handedly takes on another nation (look at the yanks for example) if 5 northern nations grouped together and moved south without intelligence picking it up ... then we'd all be happy we had the better tech to deal with the situation because you can never trust NATO countries and whatever agreements you have in place with any of them

  • @stalkingalizee Rooivalk was not meant to be purely as an export, it was an SADF requirement that was decided during the Angolan conflict. 16 were made, 4 are prototypes and 12 production aircraft -some of the production aircraft lack advanced weapons facilities as it has not been adapted onto the airframes yet - so for now they just fire rockets and chain gun, missiles will be fitted and adapted when the funding is available, general avionics / sensors are operating and functioning properly

  • @stalkingalizee ............... I think the grounding of the rooivalk came as a result of wanting to determine the improvement of its safety and its reliability, and upgrading of the accuracy of its weapons systems which took a considerable heck of a time, based on the 03August 2005 technical malfunction. It may be underfunded but I am pretty sure the government can pull some strings at some point. Being underfunded is only in the paper. ..............

  • @MrAutlwetse The grounding came from lack of funds for its maintenance and upgrade. Well documented fact.

  • @stalkingalizee .......And again remember the SAAF is to invest R962 million (about US$137 million in 2007 exchange rates) in the helicopter over three years to 2010/2011, in order to bring it up to full operational status. Time is of the essence and I think this is the current time as recently evidenced at the AAD 2010. It will take a little bit of time for SAAF to be fully equipped with the rooivalk ..

  • @stalkingalizee.And I dont think grippen was a waste of a budget. Time is of the essence. The cheetah needed to be retired and the grippen to be commissioned. SA needs such multi role fighters to enhance its capabilities. Remember the grippen has a built-in electronic warfare unit, making it possible to load more ordnance onto the aircraft without losing self defence capabilities..............

  • @MrAutlwetse Once all 26 are delivered, they will only fly 9.6 hours a YEAR. It takes 120 just to maintain safe operations. Paying for planes you can't afford to fly is a waste of money. Even the Russians fly more than that.

  • @stalkingalizee ...............at AFB Overberg in the southern Cape. In preparation for this phase and planned release of aircraft to 16 Squadron Denel Aviation will also be supporting the SAAF with the training of flight and ground crews to regain the required competencies to operate and maintain Rooivalk.

  • to bad this project has been scrapped due to lack of customers and stiff competition with Tiger Cobras Havocs and Apaches

  • @PanzerKiel1 It hasn't been scrapped, our Rooivalks are just not in active service. They can be called in at any time.

  • Dis Bevok! wat meer kan ek wonder----Jakbeuk-NZ

  • reminds me of a smaller version of the Hind

  • The Rooi Valk is not a new south-africa product, prototype first flew in 1985.

  • Ag fok, iemand stuur my `n whimpy burger!!!

  • This chopper roxers all the boxers.....o_0 uhh i mean the rooivalk is the shit

  • looks really nice hope it's good in combat too

  • Why is it always racist talk, come on! it has been almost 20 years. We are moving forward. Protect yourself when you need to and the rest of the time just focus on making money!

  • @Bridgesan000 We can't protect ourselves because our guns were taken away. Make money? Trying putting in a tender for anything while Sipho is getting his brother in law in for a 100% quote mark up. Moving forward? Are you fucking kidding me? You don't live on this planet

  • @Bridgesan000 bro you are moving backwards. niggers can't do anything right.

  • @KrisdashPaul

.....i dont know who is moving backwards here dude....??

  • @Bridgesan000 agreed!

  • @Bridgesan000 : Stating the government suck is not racist. "The truth can never be racist" Sadly the SA government today is a disappointment to so many of us. And yes, its amazing how SA developed the RooiKat and Rooivalk YEARS ago... and nothing really special in 15 years. Mmmm I wonder why? Maybe SA no longer has the expertise left because so many of us have left !

  • I've got to say, I'm skeptical about building our own chopper (what's wrong with buying Apaches or Hinds?) but helicopters are a better investment than fighter jets at any rate. The Gripen just seems like a terrible idea to me.

  • @ManicParroT

The Apache's chief test pilot was involved in this program. South Africa built their own looking for possible export.

  • all i hear is yadda yadda

  • Rooivalk en Rammstein! Puik!

  • To all Whites in SA. sounds like another deal under dumb black leaders like in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe)... Blacks are destroyers of whats is good for all people.

Enjoy your new energy rates for your electricity for the next 3 to 4 years. To get your countries electric company out of debt. This is wishful thinking, since there only going to continue to spend and get into debt.

  • @idrobinhood we Zimbaweans are down but not out and we never will be out till the last one of us is shot and we will get past our painful problems and show you how its done so that you don't have to fear the future too much. I mean that in a friendly way.

  • I see some whities in South Africa still have their heads berried in the sand. Very proud of you new South Africa?

  • Yep. Thanks for asking.

  • @Sunclief

PROUD THAT MY COUNTRY IS GOING DOWN THE GUTTER LIKE ZIM?

  • Conradjonk: Exactly That!!!

  • wishful thinking!

  • I don't get why Australia keeps on buying overpriced hard to maintain toy shit from America, when there are obviously better suited craft like those made in SA.

  • And just by thee way, You are super right, there is no better job in the world than flying a gunship, especially for the South African air force.

  • My dad asked me for a Denel Land Systems machine gun for his birthday. I might get him a Rooivalk instead.

Nice usage of Rammstein, by the way.

  • A fine looking bird, wonder how it feels to pilot. Are whites still allowed to serve in the SADF.

No better job on earth then flying a gunship in combat.

  • Mate what the hell!

'Are whites still allowed to serve in the SADF.'

Ya bru, any South African can join the Armed forces and no one really cares what colour skin you are, at the end of the day we all Brothers fighting together!

  • Just wondering.

  • @catpoacher There was a stage that the SAAF only took blacks I know becuase I applied but they soon realised there mistkake. You cant let uneducated people fly a plane or chopper. 90% of blacks that applied failed the tests and then they asked for white pilots again. The Rooivalk is only being flown by white pilots. There is only one good black pilot that I know of and he flies for the silver arrows.

  • @brendon1whelan

WHITES ARENT WELCOME IN ANY GOVERNMENT INSTETUTION ANYMORE, THEY WOULD LIKE TO MAKE THE WORLD FEEL THAT S.A. IS NOW DEMOCRATIC AND FREE AND FAIL , BUT ITS BULLSHIT. WE ARE OUTCASTS NOW AND UNEDUCATED BLACKS TAKES ALL THE JOBS. THE ECONOMY IS SUFFERING AND SO ARE THE WHITES.

  • u dont need to be loud. Ur making noise. Yeah right! Like anyone will pay attention to what ur saying. Get over it dawg!

  • CatPoacher: From what I know allot of whites have left the SAAF and replaced by Black pilots and most crackers that do fly, fly the C130 and not combat aircraft.

  • Yes nothing has changed, just the name. Don't listen to what people say about the South African Air Force. It is top notch. Also don't believe everything you read in the paper. SANDF is combat ready and can be ordered into action at any time.

  • i agree bru. hell, if sandf was hurting, they woulda taken the b 105 and defenders from the sap. thats 30 attack helos right there. the cheetah is still at the test flight and development. hawk is great purchase for close air support. 109 great anti tank. people please. sandf is as great as ever.

  • I wander how many people who leave all the awesome comments on South African Military power have ever considered joining our armed forces... come on guys we need you!!!

  • Is SANDAF really as good as the SADF was that is the question?

  • Nice video JP, Jy laat my amper verlang na die ou bus! :-)

  • great new video - plz give us more of the weapons firing in the future though.

    thanks

  • Fantastic vid. I just wish the government and Denel would re-invest in the program instead of letting Denel scrapping it. Even if there are no other buyers.

  • brilliant vid

  • Nice to see some fresh footage of the Rooivalk. How are the modifications going? Mokopa's loaded yet? The nose also look's different somehow, so I guess this is an updated version.

  • Apache does not come near the rooivalk, what Mokopa's ? have heard the name but not what it is.

  • Mokopa is South Africas answer to the american hellfire - it beats the hellfire by an extra two+ miles range and much newer design and technology (like the rooivalk) it's a 127mm missile that can be laser guided or have its own mmw radar built in for the extended range and fire-&-forget capabilities

  • Is that recent footage?
