This was just awesome. Just what I was looking for. If you look on the newspapers they sell you that the ink is soy base :) I love that it is a recycle project and it replaces my Dixie cups...you did an great job!
Good idea! What I really like about this idea is it can be used in remote third countries where egg and yogurt cartons would not be so readily available.
Thank you so much! This is awesome! You have inspired me to make these little cups today, for a more self-sufficient life style... it's people like you who pave the way for people like me. I really appreciate you, thank you.
Now how the hell do you expect us men in the audience to retain any information when you are wearing a shirt like that?!?! I can't even remember what you were doing. reading the news paper or something? Oh well, I guess i'll just have to watch it a few more times. LOL BTW...do you have any more shirts like that for your next video's?
Thanks for posting! You showed everything perfectly, and they are so easy to make! I was looking for something like this since I am planting a lot of stuff this year.
By 2004 Soy products had come to be used in over 95% of Americas daily newspapers that circulate more than fifteen hundred copies per run. In addition, about one quarter of commercial printers in the United States operate using soy ink. The soy product is used in colored or blk/wht print, so it doesn't matter what section of newspaper you use as long as it isn't the glossy inserts. Thanks for your comment, you may correct-- I'm no scientist. But it worked for me. My kids don't have 3 eyeballs.
Thanks for that never knew it. I saw somewhere else just before posting that it was bad, but after looking into it you are right. I have corrected the other person. Glad to hear your kids are ok . I'm sure they will thrive on all the healthy food your growing.
@stepherz76 Sure most inks are soy based now, but... Colored inks use metals to make the colors. You're introducing heavy metals into your soil that are taken up by the plants. Heavy metals are toxic in high concentrations or over prolonged periods of exposure. That's why you're supposed to use black & white sections of newspaper only.
have the held up well? i did this same thing probly got the idea from the same video...i only used 1 layer! it started falling apart in about 3 weeks...but al in all they worked very well!!!
They almost held up too well! I planted them today and actually decided that the newspaper wasn't going to decompose this year, so I tore some of the paper away. It wouldn't have hurt anything to plant the whole pot, but I too was curious to see how the pots held up. I would say that they were perfect with the thickness I showed in the video.
I liked this method so much! I'll never buy another pot again... Thanks for watching!
That is excellent. I just bought 50 peat pots for 3.00, but recycling old newspaper is better. I will do that when I run out of peat pots. Thanks for the tutorial. You did fine. :)
I've heard of this too! I will have to try it, I like the idea of being able to just plop em in the ground. You can even put the mychorrizal fungi at the bottom of the pot so when the roots grow out, the fungus will attach itself to them. Thanks for the video!
It's been a couple of weeks now and I've watered the plants daily. The pots are holding up beautifully, despite that they do get wet. They work exactly like the biodegradable pots you can buy at the nursery, only stronger. The key is to not handle the pots themselves too much but to put them on a tray that you use to move the plants around if you need. Good luck!
Thanks a lot. I can do that!.Been looking for a way to start srrds in small planters but couldn't find them. This is great.

Black and white newspaper uses a soy product for its ink and printing. If you research it, you will be more informed.

Useing newspaper with coloured print is not so good .

ever heard of bokashi?
Seems you could couple this idea with the newspaper idea here: bokashicomposting(.)com
Step 1: 5 days ferment some rice wash
2: 14 days ferment milk added to rice
: wash
3: soak newspapers in ferment
4: pack in a airtight bucket
but bokashi is just and idea for hardcore composting. Not sure if this would be beneficial as you need to pack the newspaper
