drop a is a tuning where you lower the strings to different pitches then they normally are to give it a lower sound. and sadly in most metal bands bass usually just follows the rhythm guitar which is stupid. basses shouldnt do that in my opinion. the should at least through in show runs since you dont have to play power chords like a guitar does. and it really depends on the song on which is harder

Bass guitar can solo just as much a lead guitar can, in songs like this if usually doesn't though, ad it just follows the rhythm. its there it balance everything out, with guitar you have mainly treble and mid sounds, throw in the bass and it levels it out with some low sounds. its alot more important that people think, and you cann't say its harder or easier than guitar because there two different instruments meant for two different things. hope that answered your question dude lol
