  • Uso, faafetai!!!! I am learning Samoan from you. I am sure that there are many people who benefit from your simple presentation. Fa'amolemole, upload vol. 4, vol. 5., etc., etc.. God bless you!

  • Lol I love dis video..keep postin more of this Samoan Street Vols..lol day should cancel Seasme Street and put this on..can wait fo the other vols

  • @yunguce1 Unfortunately, I posted all the volumes I made onto Youtube. But I do wish another Peace Corps volunteer would take up the mantle and do more editions. One day, hopefully. :)

  • Thanks for these videos. My dad never taught us Samoan, and I am now 22 years old wish I knew the language. I am trying to find as many help guides as possible before I go visit Samoa in a year for my first trip ever to my dad's walk of life. I feel kind of frustrated that I do not know the language, but these videos are definitely a great help in learning the basics and understanding some key pronunciations. Thanks again!

  • @FMAguru2007 Yeah, I really wish more Samoans would post how to speak their language. While I was decent, I wasn't nearly as good as the Peace Corps Volunteers that actually lived in the villages. Glad these could help you just a little bit in your language journey.

  • you are great! :)

  • ma tua velea tele lea mea . saaaaamoa ! lolss ! jaykay ! this is a good vid i guess . i happin to be samoan&tongan . speak fluently in both languages . & ihts a must tht yhur kids should learn the language . iht helps alot ! believe me ! especially nowadays ! were loosing our culture :) english is our second language . many of us forget tht ! buh goodlukc to yhu & yhurs .

  • do white people llearrn this too?

  • @ShiTeine Every member of the Peace Corps in Samoa learns the language - so yes, white people do learn it as well.

  • big ups for learning our culture uce:)

  • How do you pronounce the Samoan word uce ?

  • great video, and to all the samoans hating on it, grow up and face the facts. been in australia for nearly five years now and met only a few samoans who can actually speak the language. pretty pathetic if you ask me.

  • Hahahaha...Sesame Street......Not bad bro. Ignore the haters, they probably make a lot of mistakes when speaking the language, like many of the rising generation.

  • @theephraimite Thanks for the kind words. Like I continually say, I know my samoan isn't perfect - so if you're Samoan and can speak the language better than me, step up with a video and help out. Complaining helps no one.

  • @psilentzeo All is well, bro. And yes, I am Samoan. I don't want so many people to speak the language; only for missionary puposes & perhaps peace corps to a certain degree. I don't want the language to be popular. I've always had that not- wanting- to- be- popular mentality. Anyway those are just my views. Peace.

  • @theephraimite That's certainly your choice. 1 language dies every 10 days. When a language dies the culture disappears. Think about why when the US brought Africans to America as slaves they didn't want them to keep their native languages. American culture devalues any language other than its own. So be careful for what you wish for when you say you don't want Samoan to be popular, it may some day become extinct.

  • @drspiff I'm afraid you're way off the mark. Africans being enslaved in the past has nothing to do with Samoan culture. Is America trying to enslave Samoans too and make us lose our language? The Samoan language has more than 200,000 speakers, and most of them live in Samoa, not speaking any other language. You don't know Samoans yet, but I tell you, our culture is like our religion. We protect it and defend it with ferocious zeal; hence, we've been criticized for being backward.

  • @psilentzeo In the book "When Languages Die" linguists believe that by 2100, half of the world's languages will have died away because they are not taught to the newer generation. That means 1 language dies every 10 days. If you simply consider the population size of the various ethnic groups in the world, it doesn't take a genius to realize that Samoan will eventually become one of these dead languages, unless something is done. So thanks for helping to save a language.

  • @drspiff Just trying to help, although I wish more Samoans would put videos about their language on Youtube to help out. :)

  • @psilentzeo I'm trying to learn in my spare time. The available resources are really difficult to locate compared to other languages. I already have the Gagana Samoa book, the old Peace Corp document, the Peace Corp audio samples, Milner's dictionary, and links to all the streaming radio stations. I'm going to talk to U of Hawaii to see if there is any way to take their classes over video conference (from Chicago!).

  • Growing up I was always told by my Samoan family to say Talofa and my Tongan family to say Malo. I wish I could speak Samoan fluently. Gosh my family taught me nothing!!!

  • Faafetai!! :D

  • man I wish my dad taught me Samoan when I was a kid

  • can u tell me some resourses that i can check out so i can teach me and my 3 samoan children samoan i have went to samoa trying to get help my kids are a direct desendent of samoa and i think if they miss out on their heritage it would be so wrong their great grandfatther was a samoan cheif so can u help me

  • Buddy. Ups to you for trying... But Im Samoan, lived there for six year, spent my high school days there. You kinda need to work on your pronunciation before you begin to teach the language over youtube. Cheers

  • @MaRyMMK09 Ok, than why not put your own video up showing how this should be done? This was put up 2 years ago - and pretty much remains the only Samoan Language video series on Youtube.

  • @MaRyMMK09 since u know samoan can u teach me

  • Thank U I needed to learn this cause im i dont know that much if i dont know that much i cant talk to my family

  • @FireNice18 If i make sense =]

  • this is awesome, I want to learn samoan. My grandmother can speak it, but not me. faafetai! -fa

  • saaaaamoa :) lols

  • this is awesome!! faafetai :)

  • I served in Samoa for 2 years as a Peace Corps Volunteer.

  • Hello there, nice job with the vids...I'm just wondering I mean I can tell you're not a samoan by the way you sound lol not that that's a problem but anyway I was wondering if you were serving as a missionary in Samoa if you don't mind me asking?

  • haha my bad..TYPO! Jheeezzzz

  • aw samoans speak just like fijians (: lols

  • Would it make sense if i put the words Tusi alofa together?...meaning One love..???

  • It's tasi not tusi and I think one love is TASI LE ALOFA.

  • This is awesome... i guess you are no longer in Samoa eh?

  • Yeah, I've been out of Samoa for a year now.

  • malo uso i like the vid..

  • Great video bra i need more so i can speak the language of my ancestors

  • I wish more Samoans would come onto YouTube and spread their language.

  • I want to learn more! I found 1, 2 , and 3. Where's the rest? I am willing to pay.

    Thank you!

  • Unfortunately, there are no more since I'm no longer in Samoa. Hopefully some of the Samoans that come to this video and critique it will take it upon themselves to make a language video.

  • hi in samoan is talofa not malo

  • If you mean saying hello, you can use either word. Talofa is more formal, malo is more general...kind of like the difference between hello and hi.

  • wow! malo sole..good job!!

  • Suggestions on more words? Well I'm a mom and would love to swear when I'm pissed off so they don't kknow what I'm saying. But, I would love to learn phrases and MORE words if it is duable. Also, keep your samoan up! The only samoan I know is what you taught. You taught well even though it was Sesame Street Funny but I loved it! Please do more. You do it, not your friend!

    Smile Samoan Style ! Angie

  • Ahh, I did at one time have a list of the Samoan swear words but left them in Samoa. As for keeping up my Samoan, I tend to learn by actually hearing it and as you can probably guess I don't hear it to often in the states. One day I hopefully will be able to recover the 4th Samoan Street.

  • Wow, me a full blooded Samoan still trying to learn how to speak my own language. I luff this video. How about some more lessons?

  • Thanks for the compliment. Unfortunately, since I'm not in Samoa anymore my language skills haven't held up. But I might be able to convince a friend of mine to do one more to help folks out. Any suggestions for new words to learn?

  • LOL- Great job!

  • that was awesome! I learned some new Samoan words :-D

  • Glad it was helpful!

  • In Malaysia ono is enam. Sounds slightly the same right?

  • I have no idea if Malaysian and Samoan sound the same. Do you have an example of malaysian?

  • Only a little.....

As I said earlier, ono is enam is Malaysia, it has only 40% similarity.

  • awesome
