I'm certainly no Trot but I don't think Trotsky would have allowed himself to be so badly bushwacked as Stalin. For that matter he would probably have attacked first.
@yamsid Correct; Trotsky was a far superior military man to Stalin. Trotsky created and organized the red army from the beginning, and Stalin basically decimated it to pieces, killing nearly ALL of the red army generals and completely disorganizing everything. Hitler obviously noticed Stalin's detrimental effect on the red army and it only gave him more incentive to attack this unorganized military force, which he did with great success in the beginning. Stalin really screwed up the red army
THANK YOU RUSSIANS FOR SAVING THE WORLD!THE GERMAN LACK OF COLONIES LIKE THOSE THEY HAD FRANCH AND ENGLAND PLUS THE CRUEL MEASURES THAT THEY WERE IMPOSED TO GERMANY AFTER WWI BROUGHT GERMANY TO RUSSIA...THE GOOD PEOPLE OF ENGLAND SENT HITLER TO RUSSIA AFTER SECRET DEAL//////.
Родина-мать зовёт! Rodina Mat' Zovyot! - at 7:52 - translation - "The Motherland calls!" - how interesting that these two evil empires - Russian and German, each led by a fanatical social reforming anti-intellectual racist monster, should appropriate the very words "father" and "mother" for their respective amoral umbrellas. And now the US takes it to the next stage "Homeland". "The Homeland calls you!" - ah humanity, you who have fallen so far, so fast.
the russians followed Stalin, a man who was just as evil as hitler, so i guess the Russian people deserved what they got from the germans right? the russians did invade poland, slaughter people across the baltic states, invade finland, starve a few million people to death in the ukraine...all BEFORE the nazis invaded their miserable country. i'm just glad the soviets and nazis both slaughtered each other in ww2.
@GarabeBang the ordinary soviet people were not complicit in their regime crimes in the same way the germans were. stalin came to power through a revolution, his people had no choice. hitler was voted into power and his people supported him.
there is no defending stalin, he was a monster, but the ordinary russian people won ww2, so you wouldn't have to live under Hitler. so show some respect.
@GarabeBang USA was founded after nations of the native people were exterminated ..to the last child..millions killed just because they were born and lived on that territory...millions and millions ..with no mercy..and slavery ...People from Africa brought and put in concentration camps .. The ideology of Hitler was no any different than the one of Britain and USA..He was only jealous he did not participated in the genocide and had no gains of ripping the world
@kirilmv the Americans murdered millions of INdians...ok...the soviets murdered millions of people while conquering eastern europe and were allies with the nazis at one point....anymore history lessons for me?
@kirilmv "The ideology of Hitler was no any different than the one of Britain and USA" you say? A hell of a claim & plainly biased & inaccurate. Sure, the imperialism of the Europeans in their period of global expansion had aspects in common with Hitler's futile attempt at his new empire but note the difference between what the Nazis wanted and earlier empires. Britain, France, the Dutch etc wanted the land AND its people. The Nazis wanted the land without the people, hence mass extermination.
@GarabeBang So 27 million Soviets deserved death at the hands of the Nazis? Maybe if America wasnt busy hiding behind two oceans we might have fealt the true horrors of Hitler's Germany. Germans should have thrown American infants into the fires or their former homes then you might have a more humble opinion of how the Soviets won the war and we waited until helping them was "practical."
And it became "practical" only when it was enough for one US soldier to land in Europe and sign the capitulation of Nazi Germany, then claiming US victory over Germany. Just by looking at the numbers it makes me sick. This Russian-German WAR was an epitomy of insanity. I cannot even imagine a Soviet soldier, whose family and friends were killed, being calm in front of every german walking on the street. Germans are lucky people.
Its amazing how these people saw the german as there savior little did they know there other plans instored for them, stalin was such a ruthless bastard so I guess at the time it didn't look all that bad to change sides.
randy95023: You arrogant Yank fuck. "WE" won the war? No wonder no cunt likes you lot. How can you watch a video like this about the communists heroic struggle against fascism and saw "WE" (the usa) won the war? You didn't even join till 3 years in. It was the communist Red Army and the socialist people of Russia that won the war.
If Hitler had the brains to accept the Ukrainians as liberated and gallant allies against communism the whole war in the east could have turned to German advantage. Hitler's heartless ego kept him from seeing the obvious. As an American I am, of course, glad that WE won the war. As a military historian it bothers me to see ANY party make such a costly strategic error...
habsmeister- Whenever I say "WE" I include ALL allied forces arrayed against the Nazis and Japs. I truly appreciate and admire the Soviets. They suffered great loss of life and a horrid occupation. Morons like Decanus quite probably lack the IQ to even understand my comments. I've studied WW2 for over 30 years and am astute at the parts that each ally made. As an American I KNOW that our casualties were extremely light. USA's material contribution was phenomenally important to the Victory.
it was very different kind of war. Germans saw Russians as not much more than slaves and half human. When war started Germans did very little to hide it, which in turn made Russians fight not for the system, but for their lives.
I would agree that Soviet losses are in part due to the way that Red Army fought, they really didnt care about casualties all that much.
Russians suffered because of their idiot Stalin ruller, who killed all the generals of the red army before germans began their attack. He choped off the head of the Army and Hitler was soo pleased!
Sounds like from what Sir Larry was saying that the life Hitler had in mind for the Russians wasn't much worse than the life they already had under Uncle Joe!
Well, DJgaZman, about the Soviets. Let us not forget that the 'Great Patriotic War' started nearly 2 years AFTER the 2nd World War began and that, whilst countries like Britain were fighting the Nazi peril the wonderful Soviets were carving up Poland, raping the Baltic States and wrecking Finland. Not to mention that Comrade Stalin the butcher who was never brought to justice was sending telegrams of congratulation to Hitler about his conquest of France.
Palestinians bring it on themselves don't be an ignorant ass.Israel could wipe them all out but they haven't yet.I don't feel sorry for them at all, they hide behind women and children fuckin' cowards.
The russians did most to assist in the overall destruction of nazi germany her land army was massacred by the russians and by the time the allies came to europe nazi germany was half dead!if lets say russia was defeated do you think for one minute the allied invasion of 1944 succesful i dont think so personally imagine the full might of the wehrmacht/luftwaffe bearing down on those beaches!???
If that were the case, then D-day would not have happened in 1944. The allies wanted more time to prepare but were persuaded by Stalin to go in earlier.
And if the Soviet union had been destroyed, we would have seen the full capability of the US war machine. The Americans fought WW2 with one arm tied behind their back.
In nearly every aspect: economically, militarily, industrially, politically, socially, etc. The US hasn't unleashed its full military potential since the Revolution. She didn't wage anything like the Total War of Russia and Germany. Its obvious that Roosevelt wanted to win the war in Europe with as little resource and manpower as possible.
I didn't say it was few resources, but was placing it in the context of the time. Had the US really needed to it could have doubled those numbers easily.
I still agree with FDR ... job 1 was defeating the NAZIS. The Japanese could and did wait. The world is full of hard choices. Without Russian help (which they were forced into by the German actions against them), it would have been far harder to defeat the NAZIS. In the end, Communism fell in Eastern Europe and Russia.
Hitler didnt have the resources to continue the war with Great Britain, and then decided to invade Russia to get those resources, but he didnt have the resources to conquer Russia either. He was doomed to defeat since the war with England had begun. Even in 1941 when the russians were crushed terribly Hitler couldnt reach his objectives. The climate and the distances were enough to beat him.
It describes German-Soviet collaboration in aeronautical research between 1921 and 1930 (the first trimotor, all metal bomber was developed and built by Junkers in the Soviet Union) as well as the continuing development of the most advanced German rocket and jet airplanes. Photographs of German aircraft production teams in Odessa taken in 1946 as well as the research facilities at Podberesie and Savelova, which are unknown in the West.
Today , Russian historical revisionism includes every aspect of German-Russian relations since 1917, both in war and peace. German Influence on the History of the Soviet Air Force is the title of the most recent publication of the revisionist publishing house RITS AVIANTIK in Moscow. Compiled by Dimitri Soboliev in cooperation with the German scientist Gerhard Wissmann and British specialist Steven Ransom, it contains 128 pages with numerous documentary photographs.
All German hopes for a political and military turning point sank in the mud between the Vistula and Oder in the decisive battles of the spring of 1945. And yet, as Solzhenitsyn records, the struggle for freedom and desire for independence had not yet died among those repressed by Stalins rule. Staring death in the face, Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians, White Russians, Ukrainians and Russians continued fighting for the survival of their countries.
None of those hoping for salvation by the Germans could have foreseen the consequences of Hitlers Eastern policy.
In 1942, Hitler was simply not interested in Vlassovs proposal--not until the military catastrophe in the summer of 1944, i.e., the destruction of his entire Central Army Group. He did not consider playing the Russian card until the 28th of January 1945 when he sanctioned an alliance with the ROA.
At the end the ZDF film are numerous interviews with German veterans of the campaign. Their recollections all support the views of German and Russian Revisionists. Millions of Slavs, Balts, Turkmen, Caucasians, Christians and Muslims were hoping after the 22nd of June for "Salvation" by the Germans a campaign to liberate them. "Better Hitler than Stalin!" was the watchword for millions of Soviet citizens in the summer of 1941, according to the eyewitnesses.
Today even the German media realize that the fate of the Soviet Empire was balancing on the edge of a razor in the summer and fall of 1941. A large part of the repressed population welcomed the Germans as liberators and the advance of the foreign troops as salvation. This was particularly true in White Russia, the Ukraine and Baltic nations as well as western parts of central Russia. The most recent example of this phenomenon is the motion picture Unternehmen Barbarossa Juni 1941 (1999)
In a short time three and a half million members of the Red Army surrendered or defected "just to get something to eat" reports the historian Kirsch. Today Russian authors confirm that the Russians who lived under German occupation were better off than those under Soviet rule. In the end, as Kirsch points out, the political and psychological blindness of the German leadership, combined with massive aid from America and England, were decisive for the defeat of Germany.
We now know that purges in the commanding staffs of the Red Army, combined with the unwillingness of the terrorized soldiers and officers to sacrifice themselves for the hated Communist Party, had brought Stalins regime to the verge of total collapse in the first months of the War.

croats love Russian Slavens brother and we are shame for few basrards who go to fiht with brother, but thay bnever fight against Russiansa thay go to fight against bolsevizam!
As was said in World At War "Fall of France," - "Here the guns would halt the Hun, provided the Hun came this way." Well, the Riussian bears halted the German Wolves on the steppes of Russia - Ostland. God bless the Russian resistance, which was critical to the survival of freedom in this world.
If you watch from the playlist World War II on my page, you can see them in order...but it DOES jump around. This is intentional, to give you the most complete picture of each stage of the war from all different sides and regions. There was a great deal going on simultaneously in many different areas...this program brings in each region at the proper time to give you a sense of how it all played out.
If you want to watch each region altogether, like Germany from the beginning to the end and then Britain from beginning to end, I suppose you could do that, but you'd be missing a lot of the war in between.
face it, ALL germans in this timeframe were guilty by complicity. they allowed this to happen. 20 million plus following the orders of a sociopath. i've heard enough of the "we only did what we were told" bullshit for a lifetime! germany is lucky nobody reversed their philosophy and wiped them off the fac of the fucking map. i'd have been hard pressed not to do it had i witnessed the camps in person. when a good man allows evil to be done is he not as guilty as if he'd done it himself? yes!
This is untrue. There were some Germans (like the White Rose) who resisted the Nazis and paid for it with their lives. I agree though that those who did not resist, do share some degree of guilt, although to varying degrees. There were those who were guilty of 'sins' of commission and others of omission. This much is true.
great discussion, guys, thank you for keeping it tactful and productive ;)
I did want to jump in for a minute...Hitler could read the desperation in the German people after the debacle of the Great War was laid at their feet. He knew they'd be a fertile ground for sewing his poisoned tree and he knew just how to shape his propaganda to make it work. That said, the Germans were at a point where none of them really cared who got hurt so long as their condition improved. Be careful what you wish..
The German people were absolutely complicit and unconcerned. Their actions were those of toddlers fighting over a favorite toy...only the consequences involved real death for a great deal of real people. Without Hitler, this would not have happened...but he was there and they allowed him to rule unchecked, feeling anything was permissible so long as they didn't get caught and, like an excited child, they didn't imagine they'd ever be caught. It's better to learn from it than just lay blame.
@damoosebelly Hitler came to power in March 1933 with 17,277,000 votes 43.9% and 288 seats in the reichstag, ( these were the last elections in nazi time )
As u see less then half the Germans voted for hitler , so around 40 milion germans dit not vote for Hitler.
More then half the german population was against the nazi;s
@damoosebelly So does this mean Americans are also to blame because we allowed the U.S. government to commit atrocities against iraqi civilians...sometimes we the people can't change anything..unless their is a full scale rebellion
@damoosebelly I'm swinging to damoosebelly's POV--after seeing Hitler's Children (thanks to this member) it is absolutely clear that the German volken as a whole were complicit in this vast 20th century war and the extermination and/or concentration of millions. The lesson is for us to remember and remind ourselves how easy it is to be deluded into megalomaniacal nationalism.
@hoosierdaddy3277 Turning a blind eye is complicit guilt. What I dislike is the plea that there was universal inoccence of the holocaust because they didn't know about the death-camps. They certainly knew about the removal of citizenship and human rights from the Jews and others, which should have been thought foul enough - and did nothing. Besides, there are records in one town close to a death-camp, of citizens complaining about the fatty ash which settled
on their rooftops - but they complained on grounds of hygiene, not humanity. They also knew about the invasion of neighbouring countries - and overwhelmingly supported it. The fascist movement was pan-European, but only truly took off in all it's full horror in Germany. There is a book "Backing Hitler" in which even Gestapo chiefs complained about the number of denunciations which Germans made of their neighbours and collegues. In interview, Josef
Mengele's daughter claimed that the Nazi ideology didn't spring from nowhere, but simply tapped into existing aspects of the German psyche: a fear of "difference" among peoples, a resentment at being relatively inconsequential on the world stage in spite of size, a belief in inherant racial superiority, a powerful desire to submerge the individual will, and the search for a "Siegfried" to follow.
In fact, what turned the Germans most against the war wasn't the horrors which were emerging, or the known atrocities, or the disappearance of neighbours, or wondering where the people had been sent, whose land they were relocated to; it was when they began to lose - until then, the bulk of them were pleased and proud. It was carpet-bombing rather than ethics which destroyed Nazi support: and that is not good enough.
Besides all that, thanks to meticulous German record keeping, it is now known that, in addition to 4.5 million SA, the SS, Gestapo, Nazi administrative staff at all levels, and known party members, there were 700,000 Germans who were directly involved with the "hands-on" running of the Final Solution, decimation of the Gypsies, the slaughter of the disabled, mentally ill, terminally sick, and even orphans/illegitimate children. It's hard to keep a secret of that proportion. They KNEW!
You're in the same position today that the Germans were in in the Thirties. Are you in the streets to stop it?
The Jesuits' Hitler was only one side of the pincer. The other 'side', the Jesuits' Stalin. Same crowd, with the same intent...eliminate the heretic (jews, protestants, orthodox church, budhists...any 'ism' other than theirs).
It is worth noting that the rounding up of the Jews shown above is being done by Wehrmacht soldiers, not by SS men. Further evidence that the regular German army was not totally guiltless in the genocide of minorities.
not totally guiltless... that's a bit of an understatement... The holocaust actually started by the 'wild holocaust'. German einsatzgruppen (not ss!) starting to murder all jews, ON THEIR OWN ACCORD. The guilt of the average german is much bigger than the spin you always get. Germans love to blame everything on hitler, but it's just not true.
Einsatzgruppen were actually primarily composed of SS men and police personnel under the command of Sicherheitsdienst and Sicherheitspolizei officers. Many army personnel did participate in Einsatzgruppe activities but we are primarily talking about Algemeine SS and Police.
lots of these have parts missing? y plz.

No they died in the millions by starvation and murder by the Germans

We now know that purges in the commanding staffs of the Red Army, combined with the unwillingness of the terrorized soldiers and officers to sacrifice themselves for the hated Communist Party, had brought Stalins regime to the verge of total collapse in the first months of the War.

There was a great deal going on simultaneously in many different areas...this program brings in each region at the proper time to give you a sense of how it all played out.
damoosebelly 3 years ago
If you want to watch each region altogether, like Germany from the beginning to the end and then Britain from beginning to end, I suppose you could do that, but you'd be missing a lot of the war in between.

face it, ALL germans in this timeframe were guilty by complicity. they allowed this to happen. 20 million plus following the orders of a sociopath. i've heard enough of the "we only did what we were told" bullshit for a lifetime! germany is lucky nobody reversed their philosophy and wiped them off the fac of the fucking map. i'd have been hard pressed not to do it had i witnessed the camps in person. when a good man allows evil to be done is he not as guilty as if he'd done it himself? yes!
liljgoneman 3 years ago 3

Be careful what you wish..
damoosebelly 3 years ago

@damoosebelly So does this mean Americans are also to blame because we allowed the U.S. government to commit atrocities against iraqi civilians...sometimes we the people can't change anything..unless their is a full scale rebellion
awacs888 1 year ago

TheBelovedButterfly 1 year ago
In fact, what turned the Germans most against the war wasn't the horrors which were emerging, or the known atrocities, or the disappearance of neighbours, or wondering where the people had been sent, whose land they were relocated to; it was when they began to lose - until then, the bulk of them were pleased and proud. It was carpet-bombing rather than ethics which destroyed Nazi support: and that is not good enough.
TheBelovedButterfly 1 year ago

Same crowd, with the same intent...eliminate the heretic (jews, protestants, orthodox church, budhists...any 'ism' other than theirs).
abbesieyes 3 years ago
Tends to put many of Hitlers' and Stalins' 'mistakes' prior to and during the war into a different light.
abbesieyes 3 years ago
It is worth noting that the rounding up of the Jews shown above is being done by Wehrmacht soldiers, not by SS men. Further evidence that the regular German army was not totally guiltless in the genocide of minorities.
MalteseFalcon786 3 years ago 4
not totally guiltless... that's a bit of an understatement... The holocaust actually started by the 'wild holocaust'. German einsatzgruppen (not ss!) starting to murder all jews, ON THEIR OWN ACCORD. The guilt of the average german is much bigger than the spin you always get. Germans love to blame everything on hitler, but it's just not true.
henkbress 3 years ago
Einsatzgruppen were actually primarily composed of SS men and police personnel under the command of Sicherheitsdienst and Sicherheitspolizei officers. Many army personnel did participate in Einsatzgruppe activities but we are primarily talking about Algemeine SS and Police.
