Another great video! Thanks for providing such thoughtful exegesis of the meanings of those verses, using classical textual analysis and careful search for the true meanings, even when our oh-so-modern culture tries to praise other "truths." May God bless you and your work, as well as your family.
I've seen people use these verses (about women's roles of childbearing and submission) to argue that women should not be employed outside of the home. What do you say about this?
@ForgivenLutheran I wouldn't go that far. But I will say that my wife loves the freedom of being a full time mother. The real problem is idolizing "work" and degrading "family."
@Revfiskj That's what I have always thought too. I don't think that it's particularly healthy for children to spend more time with their day-caretakers than with their own parents.
@ForgivenLutheran Having time with mom at an early age is very important. Sociology shows us this much. The danger is making a law where there is none. God cursed the land so that by sweat and blood we eat. We shouldn't condemn anyone for striving to survive by working together. At the same time, it is easy to make "wants" into "needs" and forget that what our kids need most is time with their parents.
@Revfiskj Yeah I see your point. I've always wondered what exactly Eve did before the fall. Adam was to keep and guard it, and Eve was to be his helper, so she might have helped him keep and guard the garden. Am I right in saying this?
@ForgivenLutheran Eve helped. :D And she *would have* bore children eventually, and it would have been awesome. Sadly, she was deceived and Adam chose to ruin us all.
So Paul offers his thoughts, and concludes by saying, pretty much, "That's my opinion on hair, but it's not theologically important. So don't go fighting about it or forming new church bodies that make way too big a deal of hair."
There are entire denominations in the US that do just that. As in, they say if a woman even trims her bangs she is no longer a Christian.
I was hoping you would role Ephesians 5 in there with this...I get tired of couples shivering at this chapter...I have a Bible study with them every time they do...anyway check out or study the article as it relates to the use of "faith" verses our english use of "believing"...just see if you can't come up with a reason why there are times when the article is used in front of "faith" and it seems to be talking more of a passive thing ...something given rather than something done

Sometimes I think I can only understand the Bible if I intimately know Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek.

So, as a man, my long hair is inherently feminine to Paul?
WyldKnyght 2 months ago
@WyldKnyght Yes, well...Paul thinks God thinks that, and that it's inherently obvious. But he also thinks its not worth fussing over. :D
