Personally I think becoming a Christian just so you wont go to Hell is not the right reason to be a Christian, as then the main reason is to get a free ticket to not go to Hell.
It seems no different than kings saying "believe in my views or you will die"
You don't follow because you love Jesus or love God, you follow because you fear them.
Personally I'd rather go to hell for beliefs I hold dear in my heart then go to heaven just because I was afraid of Hell.
If one does not experience miracles, or does not know much about God, how can one truly know God if one does not try to get connected to God?
As there are many religions around the world, how can one know which is the real God if one does not try or want to experience the miracle of it? of course, this situation applies on those whom are lost or have other beliefs.
i think Matt Slick is great he has many answers, and get knocks from ediots who do not, he constructs, whilst knockers try to destruct, basically telling you who is right and who is wrong, so Matt Keep going and thanks for being there
@Hufflewaffle not completely; it's because you feel guilty about living a life that puts yourself first (a live in sin) and have an honest desire to change
@annahavanka Why do you ask that? If it is the same thing you don't believe is it okay then for me not to believe it? Do you believe Jesus is God and that He turned the rivers and streams in Egypt into blood? Do you believe He parted the Red Sea by commanding the wind to blow on it?
@ChulaKirby I thought what you had was an honest question. I'm not looking to argue, but I will answer honest questions. Personally, I do believe what the Bible tells me is truth.
@annahavanka It is an honest question. An honest question to Christians. Are they really being honest to what they profess to believe. They say they believe in Jesus and what He says but then when I look I see them rejecting what He says except the part about Him saving them. But doesn't having faith mean believing everything He said and taught. It drives me batty what i hear and see. Can I ask you a question. Why do you say "personally" instead of just "I believe"? Seriously.
@ChulaKirby No, I believe that would be an impossibility. When we are saved we are repenting of sin, and trusting in Jesus Christ, like you would trust a parachute when you need it to take a jump out of a plane. Would you trust a parachute that you already thought was defective in parts? When we are taking the leap to Jesus, to forsake ourselves and trust fully in Him, we need to have a trust that He is truth, and His word is truth... or what's the point?
@annahavanka I heard some Christians say the day I posted this that there is no true Church that Jesus built that still exists today. It is not a point of which Church but ANY Church. They said they all teach some false doctrines yet Jesus SAID He would build a Church and the gates of hell (hades) would not overcome it Matt 16:18 Paul called it the pillar and foundation of truth 1 Tim 3: 15 God told Moses don't fear prophets whose forecast don't come true Deut 18: 22-22 they are false/
But they won't take that leap and go find that Church. It might even be the Church they are already in but because they believe all Churches teach some false doctrines, they are calling Jesus a false prophet. I just sit back amazed at the lack of faith and this is by supposedly Bible believing Christians. Some want to argue about Peter and all that. But in so doing, the whole verse is skipped and disbelieved. But they are testifying to me their Church is false and not the one He built.
Basically what you just said was that you should only turn to Christianity out of greed for yourself so that you can end up in paradise, not so you can be a better person, not so you can develop a relationship with god, only because you need to get into heaven? Religion should be more about the selfish desire to improve one's post life accommodations.
@tjmbcool Such a statement is only true if Heaven is a place with luxurious accommodations (as people seem to misconceive it to be). Heaven is Heavenly because it is the realm of God, his kingdom, so if you don't like God you're not going to like Heaven. Hell is hellish because if you consider an existence without the amazing glory of God, you get hell. Islam believes Heaven is the place where you receive the desires of your heart, Christians believe it the dwelling place of God.
@tjmbcool If you don't like God, you won't like Heaven, so wanting to go to Heaven isn't exclusive of seeking a relationship with God, rather it's the purest desire of that relationship. To spend eternity with the Father, in his glory, worshiping and praising.
I think Matt as a lot of good info and talks a lot of sense mostly, but i differ on this point, i think - Exo 20:6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that ( LOVE ) me, and keep my commandments. - says it all God want you to LOVE God, now we all know, if you have been in any kind of relationship, you cannot FEAR & LOVE someone, it as to be one or the other, i think we should ( LOVE ) GOD because of what GOD is & Represents, sure i guess GOD could erase us all from history, easy then what?
@Gail940 Fear of the Lord is beginning of wisdom, more so because it is only by being afraid of the judgement of God that we can truly appreciate his love for us. If we are not afraid we do not take the message seriously, if anything fear and love can often be both present. E.g. I am afraid of a life without my God and so I will desire him with my whole heart. We are told not to be afraid of man, but the bible says to be afraid of God's judgement. Fear can be healthy or unhealthy. GodIsTheFormer
@FXVG hi thanks but you know i think GOD could smite me down in a jot, or make it so that i never exsisted, maybe deep down i do fear GOD, maybe i feared my earthly Father, but i never ever went about thinking about fearing my earthly Father, or what he could do to me, like take an axe to me or whatever, yoiu just grow up Knowing you can trust that person, your Dad, i trust GOD with every molecule within my body, Fear does not enter my heart, because I LOVE GOD, i have no space for hate or fear
So in order to become a christian, you must first believe that you are a sinner and that there is a hell for you if you don't believe.
But if you already believe that you're a sinner and that there is a hell for non-believers, then aren't you already a christian? How do you become a christian if you're already a christian? Or is it, to become a christian, one must first BE a christian?
@sleazybtd He should have made the video longer. I know what he is getting at becausse I teach evangelism. He is getting at that many preachers out there today are giving a false gospel message that is not the gospel adn has nothing to do with reconciliation (getting right) with God. He should ahve explained that more. To believe a gospel message that Joel Osteen gives, there is no turning from sin mentioned and one doesn't even realize how sinful their sin is to a righteous holy God.
@thesacredcowtipper Believe it or not, I actually understand what he's getting at. That you shouldn't become a christian for the perks. That you should be a christian because you want to get back with god.
But as an atheist, this makes no sense to me. I don't believe god, I don't believe that humans have a sinful nature, and I don't believe that there is a reward or punishment waiting for us after death. Why would I want to get back with a being whom I believe is fictional?
When did you become an atheist adn why do you think Godis fictional? There are so many prophecies writen in the scriptures that have come to pass that prove it is a supernatural book. Some say 3,000 prophecies have already come to pass and over 300 just with the life, death, type of death, burial and crucifixion of Jesus. The things it says about the future are happening right now before our eyes.
Did you watch video? The sixth I added was the ones who wants to deceive the church, and to use it! IT WAS NOT IMPLIED TO CHRISTIANS!!! But the false Christians that only think the church exists to be scammed.
@onemarktwoyou Sorry, it's hard to tell when you don't follow the thread. From just reading it like that it seems you are saying that church goers are low-lifes.
@Buddhabr0t Pascal's wager? The Bible's New testament adnits 24,633 manuscripts (it was preserved) along with the hundreds of prophecies that came to pass show it to be a super (natural) book and it is the only religious book that can say that. This is why Christianity is true and all other religions are false and leading many to Hell. There is no proof that other religion's manuscripts (which are very few by the way) have anything supernatural about it writings. Why I don't use Pascal's wager
@thesacredcowtipper Pascal's wager is something people use to try to be to apologetical when there is nothing to be apologetic about. We already ahve the truth. some just use this to try to convince others to think logically.
@thesacredcowtipper so you say christianity is true because of the manymany prophecies that came true? then please name one (1) prophecy that will happen in the future. accurate time and place. im waiting.
@Buddhabr0t Why do you need an exact time and place. There are about 30 things in this prophecy alone that has already taken place. Read the whole chapter of Isaiah 53. It describes the crucifixion of Christ to a tee.
Then read Daniel 9:24-27. This is known as the 70-weeks prophecy whereas Jesus died for the sins of man in the year described. 3w (dot) lamblion (dot) com has a very good article on this. And many more about the future prophecies taken from Matthew 24 and the book of revelation
@thesacredcowtipper so there is a prophecy in the bible. and then it really happened. it says so in the bible. this shit is so hilarious :D even better then the circular logic you guys use normally.
it cant be that hard then to tell my a prophecy becoming true in the next years can it? and i want a exact time and place so you cant make blurred claims afterwards.
Or, you want to become a christian so you can stop using your mind. You want to be a devoted zombie to christ and be superfiscial for most your days?! Oh..., wait. Those would be GOOD reasons to become a christian!
I don't think there is right or wrong reason for becoming Christian, because people grow through faith, they may begin with selfish or even absurd reasons but that is a good start, as they go to Church and fellowships and Bible study sessions, they grow spiritually in Christ and they begin to lead different lives and see things differently.
@nowayout001 I so much agree with you!I, too, think that most of us, christian sisters and brothers have had other reasons than the forgiveness of sins and the access to the Kingdom of God.But once we started to walk the path with the Lord ,He will show us the wrong reasons that determined us to come to Christ and redirect us to the real reason that should be our fuel to live a true christian life.May the Lord bless everyone!
I didn't become a Christian to escape damnation. I became one because I could feel a deep need inside of me for truth, for new life, for love...In short, I wanted to be connected to God. These things that I knew could only come after repentance and forgiveness. I don't know if it is wise to corral people towards God by threatening with hell and damnation.
@Sum41rocks47 "i don't like people going to hell, i wish everyone would be with God"
"But not everyone is wise, the fault lies on them not the Almighty Loving God."
if god made everyone, then who made these people not "wise"? are you saying god makes certain people just to send them to hell?
if you believe god is omnipresent and omniscient and made everything and everyone then you are saying god makes certain people just to send them to hell.
@Sum41rocks47 "I don't know what else to say. This is waste of my time"
yea,... i bet jesus would say the same thing, huh?
i'm reading your comments, but you fail to grasp what is being said in return. you don't care that i'm using logic while you use emotional plea. you don't care that while i am trying to get you to live this ONE life you have you're trying to tell me i'll live forever and be tortured for living the way i do. doing charity work and not believing in your BS.
@Sum41rocks47 "your pretending to know that he WOULDN'T it which is keeping you from believing in God period"
no, dumbass... what's keeping me from believing in your particular choice of god or any other is the lack of EVIDENCE for your god and any other. get that through your brainwashed, flesh eating, blood drinking little mind.
your god does not know what love is. your god tortures people infinitely for finite crimes. that is not love. no loving being tortures being they love. PERIOD.
@Sum41rocks47 "Science does prove Bible can is accurate from past but not all poeple believe in Bible"
NO. science does NOT prove anything in the bible. science has NOTHING to say about the bible. science studies how the natural world works. it has nothing to say about the bible. seriously, dude get a fucking education. at this point i feel like i'm talking to a bumpkin that's been locked away all 12 years of his life.
no i'm not. you're pretending one exists without providing evidence for it's existence. YOU are pretending to know god. i'm telling you your god isn't even real. are you having trouble following along?
"we can't understand "why" he would do all these good things for us"
.... holy fucking shit....
i'm sure hitler's follower would say the same thing.
if you don't question authority you ARE brainwashed.
@Sum41rocks47 "God knows all what could happen in the future for example . If you cross the street unaware of any cars he knows you get hit and all possible things you may do to dodge or things you do to get yourself hit."
k...
"All Adam and Eve had to do is obey God"
but he KNEW they wouldn't because he knows everything, right? as you said. he knew he made them flawed and before he made them he knew they would be flawed and that he would lie to them about the fruit.
@Sum41rocks47 i am not rebellious and i'm siding with any philosophy. i'm siding with facts about the world we live in.
you DO have to be brainwashed to believe in Adam and Eve. it's a story about people being made from dirt then a talking snakes tells them the truth about the fruit that god lied to them about it.
it's a fairy-tale. not science. stop trying to say science proves your bible, because it doesn't.
fear and respect are 2 completely different things. you are so brainwashed that you think they go hand in hand.
you say god is loving... sorry, but love is not torturing your children. under NO circumstances does a person who loves other person torture them for not loving them back. or "rebelling" against their "gift" of "love".
sounds like rape and if you don't accept the rape then you get tortured and raped.
i don't yell at imaginary beings, let alone have any anger towards something i do not believe to exist.
if you believe in the Adam and Eve story, you are most certainly brainwashed, sir.
god didn't give anyone a chance. if god is omnipotent then god already knows everything. everything is at his control. he made hell, knew he would send us there, made us stupid, knew the snake would be honest with us and tell us what the fruit would do.
@Sum41rocks47 "I am fully aware of what your thinking, all of it is negative"
YOU CAN READ MINDS!!!! OH NOEZZZ!!!
yes, you really are brainwashed. you eat and drink blood symbolically, you believe in talking snakes and donkeys, souls, angel and demons, you believe a zombie rose fro the dead and you believe in a whole host of other atrocious absurdities.
fear the all-loving father figure? THAT'S ABSURD!!! that's not love. i don't fear those i love and that love me.
"We were all to be in hell in the first place" oh so our loving father has kids and the first thing he can think of, is to send us to the basement and have us tortured? that's not only insane it's disgusting.
i see EVERYTHING wrong with what you're saying. you don't because you're brainwashed. you perform a cannibalistic ritual for gods sake!!!
He died for the sins of His people. if you don't believe, and your life isn't glorifying the God of the Bible, and you aren't trusting in Christ as your savior, then you aren't one of His people. therefore, you should be very afraid.
Doesn't God also love the world, the sinners? If God isn't "All-loving", he isn't loving at all. To just love your friends/your people is easy. To love your enemies is what Jesus asked christians to do.
So I'm gonna repeat my question: why should I be afraid?
@raphaelaaron "therefore, you should be very afraid"
that's just how they brainwashed you.
you have fear of a place that doesn't exist. you've been tricked into thinking love is an ultimatum. that god love you, but will torture you brutally forever if you don't love him back.
news flash!!! that's not love. that's insane.
you are wasting the only life you have on a lie. you have a short time here and what you are ding wit it won't make the future world a better place to live in.
What I get from this is "Don't become a christian if you're not going to stick with it" So, the pit of no return? Is that the right image? Because that's sure the one I'm getting from the way you're saying it.
So basically you just said that you should become a Christian to accept that we're all sinners and only God will save us... why is it, the main thing Christians use to recruit people is fear?
You're the type of Christian that gives them all a bad name.
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Joh 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
that's really wasnt relevant to what I said at all but "jesus is warning me"? and you're what? his personal go-between? yes im sure he meant those words just for me.
Personally I think becoming a Christian just so you wont go to Hell is not the right reason to be a Christian, as then the main reason is to get a free ticket to not go to Hell.

"But not everyone is wise, the fault lies on them not the Almighty Loving God."
if god made everyone, then who made these people not "wise"? are you saying god makes certain people just to send them to hell?
if you believe god is omnipresent and omniscient and made everything and everyone then you are saying god makes certain people just to send them to hell.
really?
THINK man THINK.

THINK for once.

NO. science does NOT prove anything in the bible. science has NOTHING to say about the bible. science studies how the natural world works. it has nothing to say about the bible. seriously, dude get a fucking education. at this point i feel like i'm talking to a bumpkin that's been locked away all 12 years of his life.
you sound like a childish, fraidy-cat.
thisguysajerk 1 year ago
@Sum41rocks47 "your pretending to know God"
no i'm not. you're pretending one exists without providing evidence for it's existence.

@Sum41rocks47 "You don't come up with enough explaination for me to even change my mind yet you call me brainwash."
you eat flesh and drink blood symbolically and think that it's ok. you perform cannibalism symbolically and you think it's ok. THAT'S brainwashed.
you believe in talking snakes and donkeys, you believe some guy is standing next to at all times, you believe that everything poofed into existence.
sorry, but you're brainwashed.

THINK. man THINK.
thisguysajerk 1 year ago
@Sum41rocks47 i am not rebellious and i'm siding with any philosophy. i'm siding with facts about the world we live in.
you DO have to be brainwashed to believe in Adam and Eve. it's a story about people being made from dirt then a talking snakes tells them the truth about the fruit that god lied to them about it.
it's a fairy-tale. not science. stop trying to say science proves your bible, because it doesn't.

@Sum41rocks47 "Jesus who is God in flesh suffered all the pain to purchase His people to heaven"
people have suffered in the same way he did and worse before and after his time. but they didn't get to wake up 3 days later and walk around.
""Let's come into a personal relationship and I will be there for you". Doesn't that sound like love"
sure, but then if you don't "choose" that he sends you to be tortured forever. that's is NOT love.

@Sum41rocks47 "Cause all the sins we've done deserve makes us worthy in hell"
no. it does not. ever. that's immorality at it's finest.
"he redeemed us" HE MADE US THIS WAY! he made us flawed, knew he was and knew he would punish us for being flawed.
if he is all knowing then he knew he was making flawed being and that he would be sick enough to torture them for being the way he made them.
THINK for once in your life.

fear and respect are 2 different things. period.
you're brainwashed head can't grasp that.
don't feed your "people go to hell because etc.." BS
NO loving being would torture a being they love or any other for any action. PERIOD.
you are sick for trying to justify such a brutal and barbaric practice and ideology.
thisguysajerk 1 year ago
@Sum41rocks47 "fear as in respect"
fear and respect are 2 completely different things. you are so brainwashed that you think they go hand in hand.
you say god is loving... sorry, but love is not torturing your children. under NO circumstances does a person who loves other person torture them for not loving them back. or "rebelling" against their "gift" of "love".
sounds like rape and if you don't accept the rape then you get tortured and raped.
THINK a little. please.

@Sum41rocks47 "We wouldn't yell at God in anger"
i don't yell at imaginary beings, let alone have any anger towards something i do not believe to exist.
if you believe in the Adam and Eve story, you are most certainly brainwashed, sir.
god didn't give anyone a chance. if god is omnipotent then god already knows everything. everything is at his control. he made hell, knew he would send us there, made us stupid, knew the snake would be honest with us and tell us what the fruit would do.

@Sum41rocks47 "I am fully aware of what your thinking, all of it is negative"
YOU CAN READ MINDS!!!! OH NOEZZZ!!!
yes, you really are brainwashed. you eat and drink blood symbolically, you believe in talking snakes and donkeys, souls, angel and demons, you believe a zombie rose fro the dead and you believe in a whole host of other atrocious absurdities.
you are brainwashed.

@Sum41rocks47 we should fear god?
fear the all-loving father figure? THAT'S ABSURD!!! that's not love. i don't fear those i love and that love me.
"We were all to be in hell in the first place" oh so our loving father has kids and the first thing he can think of, is to send us to the basement and have us tortured? that's not only insane it's disgusting.
i see EVERYTHING wrong with what you're saying. you don't because you're brainwashed. you perform a cannibalistic ritual for gods sake!!!

I am outraged by the message of this video:
Go to Jesus to escape damnation, to avoid eternal suffering! With Jesus, you will be saved!
Are we kid's who do everything our father asks to do in order to escape punishment?
Didn't Jesus die for my sins? If so, why should I be afraid? Aren't we all saved yet?
OnePacifier 2 years ago
He died for the sins of His people. if you don't believe, and your life isn't glorifying the God of the Bible, and you aren't trusting in Christ as your savior, then you aren't one of His people. therefore, you should be very afraid.
raphaelaaron 2 years ago
Doesn't God also love the world, the sinners? If God isn't "All-loving", he isn't loving at all. To just love your friends/your people is easy. To love your enemies is what Jesus asked christians to do.
So I'm gonna repeat my question: why should I be afraid?
slpbrdr 2 years ago
@raphaelaaron "therefore, you should be very afraid"
that's just how they brainwashed you.
you have fear of a place that doesn't exist. you've been tricked into thinking love is an ultimatum. that god love you, but will torture you brutally forever if you don't love him back.
news flash!!! that's not love. that's insane.
you are wasting the only life you have on a lie. you have a short time here and what you are ding wit it won't make the future world a better place to live in.

So basically you just said that you should become a Christian to accept that we're all sinners and only God will save us... why is it, the main thing Christians use to recruit people is fear?
You're the type of Christian that gives them all a bad name.

Jesus Christ's own words warning you dvnleigh:
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Joh 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
repentNOWunbelievers 2 years ago
that's really wasnt relevant to what I said at all but "jesus is warning me"? and you're what? his personal go-between? yes im sure he meant those words just for me.
dvnleigh 2 years ago
it is very relevant.
you say Matt slick is using fear to 'recruit people'.
and then say this type of Christian gives all Christians a bad name.
but you fail to realize, Jesus Christ Himself(you know, the One Christianity is founded upon)
warned all of us that we would all go to hell unless we received Him, Jesus Christ, as our personal saviour.
are you saying that Jesus Christ is the type of person that gives all the Christians a bad name?
repentNOWunbelievers 2 years ago
you just said it in your own words, "warned all of us that we would all go to hell unless we received Him"
is that not using fear to get people to do what you want?
dvnleigh 2 years ago
let me ask you a question.
if a statement is true and it is scary does this mean it is used to control?
Jesus Christ is the most perfect man to ever live.
He was sinless, God in the flesh.
He spoke Truth on all matters of life, and I believe unless I receive Him as my saviour, I will go to hell.
thankfully I did receive Him as my saviour, and I already know where I am going when I die.
Jesus Christ is not out to be a fear-mongering controller.
He is speaking Truth about the depravity of man!
repentNOWunbelievers 2 years ago
matt IS using fear. the whole religion is based on fear.
Matt says "you become a christian because you know that you're a sinner and that god will punish all who have sinned and you want to find salvation".
that is basically saying "you know god will torture if you don't believe in him and you don't want to be tortured do you?".
that's using fear. if you deny it, you are blind or willingly being ignorant to it.
