  • The "Country" in this video looks a lot more like a Third World shithole than the America of our Forefathers. Cultural Marxists are killing OUR white country.

  • I've listened to John since Jack and Diane was a brand new song. He's made fantastic and historic music over the decades, but I must say this is one of his best. It almost makes my eyes mist up hearing such a patriotic song.

I have friends who claim to have ridden motorcycles with him. I don't know if that's true or just tall-tales, but we are in Kentucky not far from Indiana. I sure wish I had been lucky enough myself to have known John and shook his hand. He's a true American.

  • God Bless America:)

  • just love this song :)

  • @stepennwolf ...I apologize, as I had no clue that my statement would be misconstrued as true ignorance. I was being heavily facetious. I know exactly what it means and where it is found; what I mean is that we are not doing that statement any favors when we stick to our bi-partisan bull hockey.

While I agree that the bi-partisan system CAN work, we should not be voting as a Republican or Democrat just because one is a Republican or Democrat, but as a person who is part of the American people.

  • Now, come on, guys. This isn't about conservative or liberal, progressive or traditional. It's about what we can do as the American people to better our country. Not as many divided, but rather, out of many, one.

E Pluribus Unum. I think I've seen that somewhere around this country. I just can't quite remember.

Oh well. Maybe we've lost it.

But... we can get it back, and we know how. We just have to put it in action and...

"Endure to the end" I believe a man named Jesus Christ said.

  • @MrCBauserman E pluribus Unum means, Out of many, One....which is on any dollar bill.

  • i just have to say John is the best - i have always believed he is the tapestry of america - his music is not buying the CIA or any activism- simply because he repected martin luther king - and the soul of america - he is awesome

  • I have to keep reminding myself that most conservatives aren't stupid, but it's really hard to remember that when they're the loudest ones. Gosh, every time I meet any ultra-conservative or ultra-liberal, I just want to give them a frickin' history book. Can we all just please get along and work together? That's the only time people ever get anywhere and people are so caught up in ideals that don't work they don't bother to look around at what their ideals are doing.

  • Ron Paul 2012 bitches!!!

  • Keep them turbos spoolin and everything will keep rollin! American made, American proud!

  • the government controls minds, music and God control the soul- !!!!!!

  • @diamonddhk222

And makes us want to buy Chevy Silverados :)

  • An beautiful song :) It really embodies the notion of American exceptionalism.

  • Then progressives are highly misinformed

  • check out cb kelton on you tube

  • i was called a niggger lover once , had to make a fake call to conde rice- god bless you john mellancamp

  • CHIEF ROCKAS CREW REPRESENTING IN THE VIDEO! LMAO! WE HAD A GREAT TIME ON SET.

  • I love this song. I just wish he'd shown some Native People. Although he has a Native guy in another similar video for "Americans"

    Jay

  • a true american

  • God bless John Mellancamp--

  • They should be a Native American shown in this Video...

  • "The Myth of America: that simple, honest men, born of her great plains and woods and skies have made a nation of her, and will prove worthy of her when the time is right. Under harsh light, it is false. But a good myth to live up to, all the same." Preacher, by Garth Ennis

  • @Upwinger2020 Not a myth, a history. And it took the men and women who founded this country decades, a century to found it. It may take us time to get where we dream it should be, but never discount that we will give it a hell of try.

  • @GoldenPig2012

I was just quoting Preacher(Ennis love letter to America in a certain sense). I am not american, and for some reasons I would not like to be one..but for some more reasons, I would die to be one. I have lived and work with americans, and yeah, you have a lot of work on yourselves countrywide..but damn, you DO have the dream inside. I wish my own people were less jaded, and more "american" in that sense.

  • @Upwinger2020 Well, then, ROCK ON, friend, ROCK ON!

  • The Coug!

  • Shout to my home state of Massachusetts!

  • I've always been a John Mellencamp fan.

I posted a video response of my cover "Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Fly" by Country Recording Artist "Aaron Tippin".

Although it's a different Genre, it's a song about the love for this country.

I'm an American Vet and am proud to put this out there. Please feel free to check it out and let me know what you think.

    Rob "Lefty" Letvinchuck

  • It's satire not idealism

  • Yes! The trickle-down effect WILL work and the poor can go s--

Wait, what? McCain, Reagan, I don't think this song means what you think it means

  • Yes! The trickle-down effect WILL work and the poor can go s--

Wait, what? McCain, Reagan, I don't think this song means what you think it means

  • I agree with whichbit's comment below: John Mellencamp's patriotism here is sincere, and I think he really does care about the common man in America and he has hope for the future and all that. However, I just don't agree with Mellencamp. As pleasant as it is to listen to, the song is out of touch with what's actually going on in the U.S.

  • @danning1

It's idealism. Thinking the world is idealistic is foolish. Trying to make it betters with ideals is a worthy and noble cause. This song alone gives me hope for our country.

  • On of the most redneck songs ever! xD lol judge me, i dont give! :P

  • MellenCamp ~ one of my favorite Loveable Liberals ~ always trying to break through ~ and his music and videos are a strong way to do it ! Red, White and Blue, and all the other colors that go so well with it !

  • No one cares about the common man in "our country". It's a corporate prison. You have no say about what happens even in your own community. The rich control everyone. The dream is dead. That's our country. Enjoy waving your patriotic flags (Made in China).

  • @Atombombmother, Love Uncle Sam or Leave him...

  • @Atombombmother The dream is only dead if you let die in the first place. Freedom isn't something guaranteed by a piece of paper or a politician. It's guarranteed by sacrifice and protecting all that is right. To give up and let dictators go uncontested is far worse than taking away freedom in the first place.

  • Mellencamp is way under rated as a musician..he trailblazed...

  • I've got John Cougar Mellencamp on vinyl man, VINYL! You don't get better 'n that!

  • republican and proud

  • my country my ass, this is not the nation i learnd about in class

  • just love john's music- nothing else-the best american artist

  • Oh, and by the way, I was born in Ohio. Hello neighbor!

  • why the hell do they have the black breakdancing

  • The only brand to buy is a FORD.

The song has no 'catch' to it, like John's other songs do. A real snoooooozer.

  • @HillsoGold Fuck Ford

  • A great Song for 4th of July!!! "From the Left Wings, To the Ring Wings down the Dixie Highway Back home. This is OUR Country"

  • Dude great song but this not a political forum

  • God bless. E

  • becareful when you get that chevy truck at 5am you minght not get a good 1 hehehe

  • I really wish you guys listen to the verse saying

    "There's room enough here

    for science to live ...

And poverty could be just another ugly thing

and bigotry would be seen only as obscene

and the ones who run this land

help the poor and common man

    this is our country"

  • @macmac1249 Yeah I read cracked too bro.

  • this is just soul! from the best American artist ever!

  • I don't think there enough black people in this video.

  • I don't there enough black people in this video.

  • John is a great Patriot from a great State Indiana I live in shitbag Massachusetts I fuckin HATE it here wish I could hit the lottery & get the fuck out of this god awful place & live in the heartland or the South

  • @bobmac1973 im from tax burdened New York and I moved to the south...ill be honest itll be hard at first to slow down and itll be weird because the people are almost too nice. Yes there are very country areas where the people are very isolated and simple but its there culture and they like being free and independent. And if you dont think youll like that then the suburban and urban areas are more open with the same southern culture and hospitality. Its the epitome of the American lifestyle!

  • 11 commie bastards watched this go back to lickin Nancy Pelosi's rotten box

  • @bobmac1973 Arent you missing the whole point of the song? That we are all different but still love the USA.

  • Love the song. But a couple questions about the video. Why is he only playing to 10 little black kids? And since he mentions "from the east coast to west coast" in the song why are there no east coast and west coast images. Why is everyone in the video a hillbilly? Very strange video indeed. I like the black and white touch and some of the images are great but the video as a whole is just weird. Definately not reflective of America as a whole. Not even close. It doesn't fit the song at all

  • "I do believe

    There's a dream for everyone.

    This is our country."

This song is really about what John Mellencamp would like our country to be. It's about the ideal of America, not America itself. Google all the lyrics. The dream for everyone is the dream of what America could be, not what America is already.

  • This is our country. and Chevy is our Truck. Which is interesting cause Ford came first. I love this song. It speaks volumes. No matter what is thrown at this Nation, we will overcome it, we will defeat it, and will not stop until we achieve absolute victory! GOD BLESS AMERICA AND ALL THE GREAT PEOPLE IN IT!!!

  • @pointly Chevy is the best my friend fuck Mike Rowe & his Ford adds Ford sucks

  • who are the 11 retards that didnt like this song ????

  • @HillbillyProduction1 those dopes probably drive Hyundai's

  • @james3662 probably lol

  • I want to buy a Chevy truck now :) ..Saw him in concert Feb.08 in Montreal :)...I like the black & white video sceens in the video.

  • This Our country as our Forefathers wanted it to be, not the way these God Damn Politians are fucking it up for all us hard working people

  • "There's room enough here for science to live, there's room enough here for religion to forgive."

I wonder what religious fundamentalists think he's talking about.

Hint: starts with a "T" ends with "olerance", and it's one of the few things that will hold this country together in the tough years to come (and also one of the things we seem to have a shortage of).

  • @crawdaddyjoe hmm, someone needs a hug.

  • @amidacounseling Or a national debate that includes more than two, very similar, points of view, but hey, whatever.

  • @CrawdaddyJoe What, we can't have that! That would be un-status quo. Actually have true 3rd party representation? You, sir, ask the impossible. That would mean that actual dissent was to be acknowledged. And that, my fine fellow, might be call "unamerikan."

  • A jingoistic-sounding song that really provides a sharp social critique while expressing hope for a brighter tomorrow?

Dude, this song is the new 'This Land is Your Land'.

Now, seriously, people, if you love this song, and you love this country, take neither at face value.

  • What a patriot. I love this country and everything about it. The government can get a little bit out of control at times, but its still the best country in the world. God bless America, and all the other countries too!

  • great album thanks u tube

  • god bless america

  • worst part of this song...........ending didnt want it to stop!

  • This country is great because of both the left and the right. We are all Americans, and we share the ideals of tolerance, hard work, and freedom. There is nothing this country can't overcome. We have recovered from the Great Depression, won World War II, and founded a nation where all can be equals, regardless of skin color or religion.

I don't care what political beliefs you have, as long as you love this great land.

  • @goarmy176 I do agree with your post. This has many good things, but this country is not perfect. For example we always go to war for some reason and too many jobs are going overseas.

  • @goarmy176

Amen, brother. Wish we all thought like you.

  • @goarmy176 Preach it Brother !!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @goarmy176 Wow!! I wish more people looked at our country like you do!!!! I couldnt have said it better!!!!

  • @goarmy176 Who won WW 11??? I am sure Canadians played a huge part in the win!!!

  • @goarmy176 we didn't really win world war II. we were kind of just on the winning team. and when this nation was founded, no one was equal, unless you count white dudes being equal to themselves. and there's still plenty of prejudice around.

  • @goarmy176 tolerance my ass.

  • Comment removed

  • @goarmy176 I suspect you re doing okay for yourself ... The USA, a country of equal opportunities where some are more equal than others, that s what this song is about. Borrowed from woody Guthrie 'This land is your land This land is our land.' The point being it's not your country it belongs to a few very very rich business men. The song speaks of the way things should be not how they are. Be mindful of Flags and emblems they are but the smoke screens of the landlords and bankers who control.

  • @whichbit herp derp?

  • @goarmy176

Why not apply that philosophy worldwide, afterall we are all human living on the same "great land". Countries are just manmade political borders...

  • I am there, 2 hours to go!

  • Why is this becoming a political fight? So what, America's got problems like any other country. We must band together to fix OUR COUNTRY. That's how it'll get better.

  • i don't agree with u at all

  • pardon me for some strong "conservative" remarks made. but does it mean if a gentleman like john who portrays blacks as part of this country, he is deemed a liberal? am I retard to even question people's stupidity here? can the word "liberal" be considered a never ending choice of the right to deface or demean someone. well, I would rather be part of the sub-human race if you want to consider me liberal. darn, i rather be kind and generous low-life than to be a sad and mean-spirited superhuman.

  • USA for ever plase american people remain united each other don't let china be the number 1 your country is amazing GOD bless the USA thank you very much for HOLLYWOOD , FOR THE MUSIC FOR YOUR CULTURE FOR THE TV SERIES FOR DISNEYLAND, FOR ALL THE MOVIES FOR THE HAMBURGERS FOR THE BEAUTIFUL AMERICAN CARS AND TRUKS FOR THE AIRPLANES THE BEST DIESEL ENGINES AND MANY MANY GOOD THINGS THE USA GAVE TO THE WORLD TRULY FROM MEXICO CITY

  • Great song, Great American.. John has done for most Charity then most of them.. It doesn't matter if he is liberal or conservative, he's an American. Thats was conservative do , attack Liberals. The Democrats didn't create 2 wars thousands dead and nearly 15 trillion in debt..

  • @joel968 true words

  • The USA is the land of opportunity. They elected a retard like Bush twice.

  • Comment removed

  • does it matter, which political party? he/s an American. stop dividing us. we need our strength back.

  • @amidacounseling Every time I hear, 'stop dividing us', it always seems to lead to a lovely but pointless nationalist lovefest that ignores the very real problems we have and marginalizes those who bring them up as anti-American. Yeah, discussing the problems we have is divisive. If it weren't divisive, we'd have already agreed on solutions and carried on.

  • You gotta admit this video is a little weird. So is John Cougar Mellancamp the pied paper for little black kids now? The director of this was trying WAY too hard to not make this look like a red-neck anthem.

  • @extropian John Mellancamp has probably a hard-lefty considering some of the lyrics.

  • @extropian Why do you say that? America isn't JUST rednecks or white people!

  • @extropian

Because rednecks are all about science and religion coexisting and stomping out bigotry?

Just because rednecks coopted this song as their anthem without actually listening to any part other than the chorus, doesn't mean that's what the artist intended it to be.

  • Everyone should buy a Chevy truck, and start flipping off everyone who for years has driven Mercedes and Toyota's and in the process help ruin the industrial base of America. I have been laughed at for buying American all these years, but I know I supported OUR COUNTRY and always will. PS...I love my Silverado and I plan to buy the biggest Harley there is for my retirement gift to myself and fly a big U.S. flag from the back--and a place for a Smith and Wesson and Remington shotgun..

  • @ProFreedomForAll I dont get it... if you know that your american cars are not the best why dont you just stop buying them and force them into building smart, efficient and high quality cars.. you would support ur industry alot more if you would force it into the Future instead of encurrage them to keep building 90's cars? I mean I buy a swiss watch or a Mercedes bc of high quality... on what do you base your dessicion when u buy something that expensive (eg. car.. watch)

  • I like this song...... I think I'm gonna go buy a Chevy truck right now even though it's 5 am

  • @virtr3uoso What are saying?

  • @virtr3uoso, I'd stick with Ford now. Chevy isn't that much American anymore.

  • Does anyone know where that video was filmed? Terrific song! Thanks for the post!

  • @pilotmountain1 Savannah, Georgia and Tybee Island beach :] my home!

  • @pilotmountain1 a soundstage, probably.

  • mellencamp thinks he is black :-) great music, paper in fire, he needs some white people :-)

  • John Mellencamp = Awesome!

  • CHEVROLET!!!!

  • @johnson200gw hell yeah!!!!!!!

  • @southerncountryboy98 thank you thank you

  • @johnson200gw Great commerical huh?

  • @johnson200gw Oh yes from Bob Seager. I liked his commericals too.

  • @RealTime88 best ever made, just like the TRUCKS

  • @johnson200gw LIKE A ROCK WAS BOB SEAGAR

  • Respond to this video...LIKE A ROCK WAS BOB SEAGER

  • John (Cougar) Mellencamp is to American Popular Music of the past 60 years what John Steinbeck was to the writing of best selling American Fiction in the 40's and 50's!

  • Just love it...My dream to see him is real now...thanks to my daughter...it is all about teaching and sharing knowledge...can not wait for Radio City.....We all bleed the same color...so sad so many do not know that in todays world.

  • Thumbs up if you feel as thoguht affirmative action is at work here.

  • I'm pretty sure this is our country.

  • You 2 dumbasses are arguing about news channels really? shut the hell up and just listen to the music in this video, if you wanna whine about the news, do it somewhere thats part of the news

  • fivesteps typical fox new mean person:) Yep we are all equal! But if a guy from down under and a saudi prince spead their hate naw we are nothing , Fox news sucks!I really think people who cannot think for themselves listen and believe them:) I have tried and lasted 2 mintues with them. We do not need people spreading hate. You know hate sucks:( Fox news doesn't own the media lol but it owns your mind )lol

  • @MsHappygirl23

I watch every news station and then form my own consensus. Judging by your lack of knowledge I doubt you actually watch any news. You probably just heard that Fox News is "evil and hates poor people".

What does a Saudi Prince and Australian have to do with this? I seriously don't understand the first three sentences of your comment. I think CNN has melted your brain.

  • My Grandparents were Germans. I'm an American. as long as you live in this land, your an american. We all have a common heritage. Our Ancestors came to America to escape persecution. As Far As I'm concerned, your all my brothers and sisters, be you black, white, or red. This is our land. This country was built on the backs of the immigrants. We are all equal. noone has any right to say they're better. Bless this country, and let us continue to lead the world into the light of freedom

  • This country does not belong to fox news. This country belongs to us. Maybe someday we will all come together and get it back. Sad times for our country at the moment :( God Bless you John:)

  • @MsHappygirl23

Fox News doesn't own the US media. They are the only conservative broadcasting company. If anyone owns it would be NBC, ABC, or NBC.

    Typical dumbass liberal.

  • "From the East coast to the West coast" that should be fine to remember. No Iraq or Afghanistan, no Cuba or South America. Just form the East coast to the West coast. Enjoy!

  • This is routinely played at Tea Party rallies. It really pisses off the America-hating Liberals and Progressives. Great stuff, John!

  • @DeathToLiberalism You do know that John Mellencamp is a liberal right? He actually asked John McCain to stop playing his songs in campain ads back in 2008 because he didn't want to be associated with conversative ideals.

  • @iltlh McCain is not a Conservative.

  • @DeathToLiberalism Wow, I went to his concert and left half way through. I didn't go there to hear "fuck Bush" I went there to listen to music.

  • @DeathToLiberalism

Actually the person probably pisses off most is John Mellencamp since he's a liberal. He performed at both Obama and Clinton events in 2008, check if you don't believe me.

Also, screw the "progressives hate America" BS! If we hated America we wouldn't bother with trying to fix it!

  • @sandpiperr I am sure you a pist off Republican.

  • @Javbuff2008

Are you saying I pissed off a Republican or that I am a pissed off Republican?

If the former...wouldn't be the first time I have.

If the latter...first time I've been accused of that!

  • @sandpiperr Those who love this country the most, criticize it the most. James Baldwin (not his exact quote)

  • @sandpiperr Who cares what his political beliefs are? Many people who lived in small residential areas came out as liberals. Take my dad for example (he's since passed on.) An opinion is an opinion.

  • Progressives hate American/Israeli Policies of killing people and Occupying their land, for Oil and Corporations.

Meanwhile AmeriKa is broke at home, some of us are smart enough to understand the difference, others not so much.

    Keep on Pimpin.

  • @sandpiperr I'm sure there were a lot of people in German in the 1930's saying almost the same thing. They fixed Germany too.

  • @sandpiperr Excuse me??? Fix... Have you ever heard the expression, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"? The only thing wrong with America is there are too many progressives running around loose. Progressive is a "Nice" name communist call themselves now. As soon as there is a season on those progressive bastards, I am gettin my limit everyday. One day we will wake up and be strangers in our own country. The land our fathers fought for will be full of illegals and welfare bums. Rise up !!

  • I would like to say to the ignorant ass that thinks he changed his name FROM "Cougar" to "Mellencamp"..You're wrong! He had a stage name of "Cougar" to please the big executives that were taking a chance on this kid..after his success he took back his given surname.."Mellencamp" Do us all a favor an know an artist before criticizing. Watch "Small Town" . Mellencamp rocked my entire teen life! Thanks John.

  • One nation under GOD with Liberty and justice for all!

I remember say this in school and it still works for today!

  • 5 haters of the free world

  • Yes, it's your country from Atlantic to Pacific ocean.

Pls John, don't forget the french fans.

  • my favourite john mellencamp song

  • @JessicaMcCauley11 fucking retard

  • This is our country from the East coast to the West coast down the Dixie highway back home. This is our country now Redcoat no King or lord rules us.

  • @markinvt37000 Its to represent equality and how two races can peacefully co exist. There's no need to be racist. Unless their ass is ghetto.

  • @SpEcTeRM1A2 lol..umm racism is racism..theres no exceptions to the rule.

  • @thatpecinalgirl Some of my best friends are black but if some asshole comes up and calls me a cracker ill whip out every term in the book.

  • @SpEcTeRM1A2 then you'd be no better than them...

  • @markinvt37000 Your statement shows your lack of understanding of the sentiments of the song.

  • @thatpecinalgirl 'markinvt37000' didn't post anything about any song on this site. for 1 I stopped listening to his music after he changed his name from John Cougar to whatever the hell he calls himself now and 2. there are two gg's in nigger not one, I know how to spell.

  • VEVO SUCKS! screw you guys! get a life! WHO AGREES? THUMBS UP! LOVE THE SONG BUT VEVO AUTOMATICLY RUINS IT!
