Waterbears shall inherit the earth.

My theory is that an inevitable gamma ray burst will wipe out all life (Completely even bacteria) and only waterbears will remain. (Due to their preternatural resistance to radiation)

From that point onwards all life will be waterbear based. i.e. all life from that point onwards will evolve from the original waterbear common ancestor.
