I think that you need to work on your trebles. I have the same problem as you, the 2 sounds are too close together. Try to make it more like duh....duh instead of duhduh if that makes anysense. All the sounds should be even. But good job, being self taught!
Yeah that actually makes a lot of sense-especially with my left foot-it is so retarded lol! I actually taught myself until 3 weeks ago when I finally joined a dance school-so hopefully I will nail the trebles soon :)

ok, i have a couple thing for you here
first off squeeze your thighs together, it's a bad thing if your make like a 4 with your legs
also you need to hop a little more
like after the first four shuffle steps, in the shuffle HOP shuffle hop backs, make sure your get off the floor so you heard that extra tap
