  • I love how you call something "sky-toms" when they're really only a few feet off the ground. It sounds so epic... until you see them.

  • the more idiotic thing is to say -as if there is a certain scale- pearl and premier are both average. It is only your opinion. I believe DW or Yamaha would have pay him the same amount of money. Anyways in my humble opinion these Signia kit sounds better than his Pearl kit. I guess he has huge problems with his technical support team. They cant tune the drums properly and they cant mix them well. With little more labour his kit would be great to listen. I would enjoy more listening to him :)

  • why do you thin hes drums are always badly tuned? I think they sound fine. I think thats trhe way he wants to tune them, and i think he tune them himself.

  • I do think that way because whenever I listen to them, they dont sound well...

  • I know that you can kinda hear if a drum is badly tuned, but are you sure it isnt just hes taste? Its so weird if he cant tune them propely...drums are hes life you know.

  • I know I am not a critic on the subject, and when I say something I believe it states my opinion:) I know what you mean but as I said I dont like the way he tunes them and the reason is me I guess. Yet it is not a fact:)

  • I still think theres a slight difference between "lot liking the way theyre tuned" or of they are "badly" tuned...if they are badly tuned its like the drums "dont like the skins"...you can almost hear it. BUt I guess its just taste.

  • they are not called the skins, they are called drumheads, and what the fuck is your problem! Whatever you say, dude just shut the fuck up!

  • Virgil is even better now, who gives half a shit if his arms are smaller, what a moronic comment. the one let down is Virgil never played a GREAT sounding kit, both Premier and Pearl are average, ie they ain't Yamaha or DW. But they're big companies and Virgil needs the $ to support his clinic life, so good on him. Well done Virg, true legend and gentleman.

  • so he cant choose with hes heart, he has to choose for money? Thats sad...I thought Virgil was pretty rich.

  • Kevin,

I hate all your elitist comments like you know something.

You need to get away from your computer and practice music or learn something about it rather then being a douchey critic all the time.

ps. your a giant youtube nerd

  • HOW CAN YOU PEOPLE SAY THAT VIRGIL WAS BETTER WHEN HE WAS YOUNG??

He always has a new sound, look at him today, then 5 yeras ago, then TEN years ago. He keeps getting better and better, not WORSE!!

I dont think that Virgils "ego" has build up, he is always playing nice. What are you guys talking about??

  • I could easily say he was much better back then, he was also in better shape , check out the size of his arms back then to what they are now. He could do the splits back then and was also fresh out of Drum school in L.A. Back in those days he was practising for 12 to 14 hours a day and proudly anounced that he had no time for his girlfriend because his drumming came first. Now he cant get the time to practice anything. He was easily much better back then!!

  • Yeah he doesnt have the same muscles anymore, but thats aging.Hes in excellent shape for a 50 year old. What Ive seen hes faster today moving around on the drumkit. Abvout the practise? Well, hes rwached a level when he probably feels he wanna see more than the backside of a drumkit in hes life and thats very good for him. He still practise much, just hes career is much more busy which is good. Hes reached hes goal man, hes a busy musician playing around. Back here I think he got more time.

  • viRGIL É O CARA!

  • I prefer virgil 90´s touch that 00´s alien touch

  • The best performance I've seen of him is Modern Drummer festival in 1996 or 97, where he's playing this green Premier Genista kit.

  • I know what you mean, I used to have it on VHS. I hope they have it on DVD. Otherwise, thank Heaven for youtube, hey? Peace!

  • Not on DVD, sadly. I still have the tape and every time I slip in in the VHS I just can't believe how mind-blowing this performance is.

  • Ah, okay. Thanks!

  • WOW this is RARE....he was DEFINITELY not better than he is now...he keeps getting better and better hahaha by like the minute..haha it never stops...

  • he was better than he is

  • So he was doin' basically the same stuff, but not as good, 12 years ago?

  • not true, his style has changed RADICALLY in the last ten years. he has involved greatly, back then he played maybe a little more musically, with a little more "flow" but he couldn't do half of what he does now technically.. and speaking about evolvement, could you tell me how much dave weckl, vinnie colaiuta, dennis chambers, simon phillips or steve gadd have evolved in the past 10 years?? don't get me wrong, they are all monsters and all among my favorites, but evolving is another thing..

  • Thats exactly right.

  • Thats exactly right.Great players dont really stay the same because the are always looking for new ideahs and improve their old ones as well.Virgil Donati is doing a lot of things now that he wasnt doing 10 years ago but every player has their masterpice ideahs that they use quite often in their solos.

  • @sauronhall the "as far as i see" seems to be the key-phrase in your mindless post.. i never said i was brainfull, but you seem to be brainless, as i never mentioned anywhere in my post that he is the best, there is no best when talking about music, is there? if "as far as you see" is bashing one of the world's most accomplished drummers just for the shake of it, then you really can't "see very far" now, can you..?

  • Comment removed

  • @sauronhall are you serious mate??? you post at your page "Playing drums since 2001, more or less serious!

I'm hopefully a drummer, and a showman!" and that you "think" you can get in every genre, and then you comment about Virgil not grooving?? this is some epic stuff..

  • Comment removed

  • @sauronhall you have your knowledge?? what is your knowledge, that you are "hopefully" a drummer and a showman? "hopefully" is the right word, as you are more of an idiot and a joker, if you think you can judge who can groove and who can not.. Virgil has more groove in his left testicle than you will ever have in your whole, pitiful existence you little fool..

  • @sauronhall that was about the most thoughtful responce i was expecting from a retard like yourself.. ofcource there was no way you could argue with more thought in what you write than using profanity, any mentally disabled or any 12 year old would do just that.. i don't care if it's Virgil or any other monster musician at his level, i would defend anyone the same way, especially if he was bashed by someone who won't play in this level even in his dreams.. now, keep dreaming that you are

  • @sauronhall "hopefully" a drummer, an entertainer and a showman or whatever the fuck you like dreaming of, or you can actually start appreciating every musician, especially at this level, for what he has to contribute in music.. cheers

  • @alright28 haha, had fun arguing... comments removed. cheers.

  • SICK! I love watching old videos of pros when they were a little less godlike!

  • 90's awesome
