  • I made this yesterday, candied sweet potatoes, it was crispy when done but after leaving it on the table for a few hours, it lost its crispiness. I put some in the fridge, after one night it all became soft. Any advice to keep it crisp longer?

  • whats the diif of korean swe.potato and normal one ?

  • I usually don't like sweet potatoes but that looked really good!

  • @lalafunnys Thank you! : )

  • @Maangchi No problem (:

  • I'm eating sweet potato while I watch this lol!

  • @GazeRock123 Cheers! : )

  • I just tried this with what I have at hand - potatoes and sugar. It turns out nicely and sweet. Will try it again with sweet potatoes and white sugar. Thanks Maangchi..

  • @endimon06 you did it with regular potatoes?

  • We have that in Philippines too!! Matang I mean..We have the same sweet potatoes but I dont exactly know how we put the sugar in with the potatoes because the potatoes got bitter when I added sugar to the pan..And then my dad said that you had to put the sugar AFTER the potatoes..I didnt ask him how to though.. But I EXACTLY know the taste of matang!!

  • Is the sause sweet?

  • Mmmmmmm I really like matang

  • which one do you prefer more? ppottetto or matang?

  • @YenSturr lol!

  • I just made it,and IT'S A SUCCESS!! it's kinda difficult to get the Korean sweet potato, but then i found it in a big supermarket..i gave some to my friends n they were asking "how did you glaze it with sugar?" LOL XDDDD

  • @wangunnie great! You must have followed the direction closely! Congratulations.

  • I liked watching her

  • You are so cute! Plus, I love sweet potatoes! Good idea!

  • I actually made the Japanese version of this one XD a.k.a. Daigakuimo.

I will definitely try your method though :D

One question though. I found this caramel sugar in one of the supermarkets here, can I use it for matang or hoddeok filling?

  • I love your videos!! You have inspired me to learn to cook!!

  • my mom uses rich pancake syrup for the sauce for convenience!!

  • @exo099 sorry to hear that! butter for oil? no no! Follow the recipe tightly and check out more detailed information and tips on my website.

  • @exo099 good, make it and let me know the result. Good luck!

  • sweet potato is so cute and sweet, never absorb too much oil, I love it. better 1000 times than french fries. also best for health and hungry. recommended.

  • oh.. we call "matang" as "camote cue" here in the philippines. "camote" means "sweet potato" and "cue" because they're usually sold in bamboo skewers! :D

  • maangchi, how did you do your hair in this video? thanks for the recipe anyways...

  • it's called camote cue in the Philippines. Also called maruya.

  • i stirred the sugar.... it was an epic fail

  • I think it's called "Daigakuimo" in Japanese.

  • I made this last week.. SO YUMMY ^^ DON'T stir the melted sugar with anything!!

  • @StrawberriiVivi great news!

  • I've just made this and they're yummie. Thanks so much and more recipes please.

  • So good..

  • like her kitchen , looks like a garden. :) It is better than french fries.

  • ARE YOu A HAIRDRESSER

  • looks so good >XD

can i use the orange sweet potatoes for the matang ( wont they turn all mushy) and is the sugar on the out side hard like candy or more like caramel when it cools ?_?

  • @DirugazeXD I think it will turn out good, too.

  • @Maangchi I TRIED IT IT WAS REALLY GOOD BUT THE MATANG( WITH THE ORANGE SWEET POTATOES) DOESNT STAY CRUNCHY

  • @DirugazeXD they're very good too! ive tried it twice ^^ sweet potatoes can be difficult to find where im at, and finding the asian sweet potatoes are even harder so ive tried with the regular ones and they're yummy! thanks maangchi ^^

  • what do you do with all the oil after you use it?

  • Maangchi! You always manage to make me hungry after i watch your vids!

  • i want to try this for Christmas... It looks so good...

  • Thank you so much for a great recipe!! :D By the way, although the terms "sweet potato" and "yam" are used interchangeably, goguma are yams, not sweet potatoes. I wanted to buy some goguma while I was doing my grocery shopping at Wal-mart. They had both yams and sweet potatoes, so I had to ask my mom to find out which ones were goguma. :P I think that yams(goguma) taste better than sweet potatoes. :)

  • @hushnow1 Goguma is different from American yam and sweet potato. Goguma have a red skin but a white interior. Yams have a red skin but orange interior. Sweet potato's have a yellowish brownish skin and are yellowish-white inside. That's why Maangchi says to find it in a Korean grocery store.

  • Does it have to be Korean potatoes to make Matang?

  • hey maangchi....when you fried the pottetto which temperature did you use?

I cant manage it to get my sweet potato fries crispy...

    any idea?

    love your work

  • Hi. I really enjoyed your video....I buy these potatoes @ my H-Mart....(Korean Market) Never knew how to make them this way...Thanks. Chef Cha Cha Dave.

  • it's not '마탕', it's supposed to be written '맛탕' :)

  • You're amazing! I love your video's!!

  • Maangchi ,DO you watch we got married on mbc ? The goguma couple on there is the jjang!

  • I didn't see you add anything to the stick like sweet potatoes. Do you add salt or anything? Thanks. I love your videoes.

  • clazziquai ftw! :D

  • Try sweet potato sticks with maple syrup! It sounds kinda weird but it's the best combination I've ever had.

  • Hi Maangchi! For me,I didn't wait for the sugar to turn brown enough...it was just light brown and then I threw in the potatoes. It still turned out edible, but I guess next time I'll wait for the sugars to turn brown. Oh,and I think I manage to find the Korean kind of sweet potato in my country. However, there were a lot of little brown dots after I peeled the skin. But it is still white potato.

  • Lovely! You make it look so easy. I'd try this soon. Thanks Maangi!

  • Hey Maangchi, can you please teach us how to make 제육볶음, it is very Delicious, and lots of people like this dish!!

  • Yum! I was looking for a recipe for those! Ate them once when I was at my korean's friend's house, he had a whole basket full! XD But they did taste amazing! Thanks a lot for sharing!! Oh, btw, I love how your shirt's colour themed with the sweet potatoes! Haha... :P

  • 남편이 이거 보고, "어! 해죠!!" 합니다.

Can I use Brown Sugar instead of the white sugar?

  • @PandasKoalas yes, you could use brown sugar, too. Good luck with making delicious matang.

  • can u make soy souce rice cake!!! please

  • Hey! The technique used a 2:48 is called a "Rolling wedge" : )

  • here in the Philippines we call it camote cue...thanks..

  • i love the matang from korean restaurants, never knew what it was called or how its made. thanks!

  • Hi Maangchi, I made a comment on this recipe how it reminded me of Uganda because its similar. However, it was still pending which by the way is reasonable but, you haven't posted it yet. And this is a two day comment...... I guess you have lots of comments to read and select. Anyhow nice channel. Post more.

  • Oh my does this look delicious!! There are an abundance of sweet potatoes at the grocery store I have to try this!!

  • korean sweet potato is amazing. Sometimes I just eat it by itself with soy sauce for lunch

  • I would call those wedges - or I would call that "wedging the goguma" and specify a size, like "2 inch wedges"

  • wow! im going to try this :)

  • @anitommy ok, yes, I will keep your request in mind. Have a nice day!

  • the candied potatoes looks delicious...that crunchy sound is mouthwatering!

  • wow :)) here in The Phils. we also have it, but we call is ''Kamote(Sweet Potato) -Q"

  • @Harisenbon0226 camote is Spanish, which i think is the equivalent for Yam

  • Hi, would it still be yummy, if i made matang with regular sweet potatoes?

  • @nikinokoimnida Normal sweet potato will work well, too but for the candied sweet potato recipe, I think Korean sweet potato will turn out more fluffy. Let me know the result if you make it.

  • your food is awesome and your vids a also very funny. keep up the good work!

  • are Korean sweet potato actually sweeter than Japanese ones? my mom usually buys Japanese ones.. and they are SWEET~! love it when fried! tossed with a pinch of cinnamon+salt..>< yumm yumm..~

  • gurl, you are so cute :)

    xD

  • dear maangchi, in japan they call it "daigakuimo" if i'm not mistaken

  • @wtakizawa It's very similar to daigakuimo, but this has a seemingly crunchier exterior than it. The Japanese dish usually has a stickier sauce on it, and the outside part is not quite as crunchy/ hardened. :]

  • yummy

  • Hi maangchi! I hope you had a great time in Honduras! I just realized that the gas burner I bought looks just like yours! Do you know how to buy the gas for it? Is there a place in NY that sells it? Cheers! ~Loretta

  • Hiya Maangchi! When I was growing up, I remember one year I came home from school and my mother had a duck the legs were tied to a rope and she had it nailed above the kitchen sink so it was hanging upside down over the kitchen sink. She was marinating the duck, then cooked it in oven, it was great! I cannot find anywhere how to make it again.
