  • great feeling

  • McLaughlin is having his way with this...

  • i miss al di meola in this vid

  • 6:19 .

  • Paco .

  • 見た目より演奏難そう。

  • All 14 who rated this should not have children !

  • 5:34- 5:35.. what did he spit out? A broken nail?

  • @Pan3405 It was a band-aid

  • John looks lice Ace Ventura

  • brilliant... what on earth was that run by john at about 5:50???

  • What happens in 5:34 ??

  • astounding speed, amazingly complex melodies, they seem to be well studied phrases, could they be improvised?if they're not how do these guys remember it all,its not written,at least not that i can see?it has to be improvised!!!i couldn't play that well in two lifetimes, ther'e both astounding!!

  • Mir standen schon Tränen in den Augen!!!!

    So Schön!!!

  • ¡ Olé !

  • To anyone who dislikes McLaughlin, have you considered that Paco obviously has better taste and judgment than you and considers McLaughlin good enough to jam with?

  • @adee99 John McLaughlin is one of the best guitar players alive today, he has wrote things I can only dream about playing, he has wrote a piece for a full orchestra , now that shit is hard, most guitarist only have to write for themselves, & some don't even do that, were as John wrote for him and about 20+ others, and it all had to sink and sound write, anyone that does not think he is good, knows nothing about writing music, as most people know he is exceptional

  • who says you can't mix two different styles without making a mess? These two show how to play the guitar with two styles and succeed on the try

  • hahah I love how john just takes off his jacket after this performance...I bet he's like: "yeah now that I've warmed up...time to get a bit more serious."

  • sensational beauty executed with superb craftsmanship.. but when i see guys like pan3405 saying the things they say.. I am forced to reveal a terrible truth to you guys. There are many test tube babies out there, and this is evidence that sometimes the experiment fails...Its not his fault so pity him. Because it cant be fixed.

  • Applause make it sound more epic.

  • @Pan3405 how can a 51 yrs old person say those things to a 13 yrs old guy? Aren't you ashamed? my god...

  • @MrCicciodesellero Says more about You.. I don''t do an investigation how old somebody is.. but you are! I think John McLaughlin makes music for gay people.. didn't you watched his sissy feet in 1:12 Jakkie!!!

  • @Pan3405 its all about respect...and you dont seem to have. stop annoying us on every single video by john, ok?

you break our balls.and stop writing offensive comments most of all. we dont have nothing aganist gay people, but your comments are always offensive. i repeat: DONT YOU FEEL ASHAMED?

  • @MrCicciodesellero ehh nooo .....I don't feel ashamed.. I just hate guitarists doing the same thing over and over again and people who blindly think it's soooo beautiful!!

  • @Pan3405 hey, why dont you get a life, bud?

  • @Pan3405 just because i have a different (right) opinion about a genius guitarist like john mclaughlin i'm not gay, and now the whole web world can be sure you make these BAAAD statements about people. you are SOOO crazy

  • @keo774 I don't understand your comment, I never said you were gay... and I never responded to a comment of yours *rolls eyes*.

  • @Sivels oh my god, sorry... i was talking to that orrible jerk called Pan3405

    sorry again

  • @keo774 apology accepted, lol. : p

  • @Sivels yeah, tnx.

anyway read all pan3405 comments about me.... isn't he a bastard?

  • @Pan3405 i0m sorry to disappoint you, but i'm not gay, and your ears must be very sick to say things like those...

  • grande paco de lucia por estos picados paco es el mejor del mundo nadie pica tan rapido ni tan limpio ni con la misma fuerza grande paco

  • casi los 2 parecen mexicanos !

  • I GUESS THEY NEED TO PRACTISE THEIR FINGERINGS AND SCALES A BIT.

APART FROM THAT THEIR PLAYING IS OK....

  • @McCoyTynerFourths You, my good sir, are ignorant.

  • @Trebgah DONT BE RIDICULOUS MY FRIEND! IT WAS A JOKE THAT MEANT THE EXACT OPPOSITE !

  • who...in their right mind..would dislike such a masterpiece?

  • Mistake at 1:50

  • @stoob1969 Shut up.

  • @ljguitar91 No you shut up

  • @stoob1969 BAD TUNING

  • purists, stop eating shit. stop dissing fusion if your mind hasn't musically accepted concepts of 20th century: avangarde, fusion, musique concrete etc. harmony, melody, technique, nice things but the evolution keeps on going. you judge mclaughlin, you judge miles davis because he changed jazz and you go and kiss your conservative "emotional playing" asses. this isn't dissing of paco or flamenco or classical guitar, this is just support for new visionary music called fusion.

  • superb as usual

  • SOME OF THE PEOPLE ON HERE are so shallow it's unbelievable.

Why does technical analysis come into your mind when listening to music? It shouldn't matter. It's the qualities of the sounds created that should come above everything.

  • McLaughlin is a monster player but here Paco just owns the tune.Maybe it wasn't his day...Anyway they make a great duo!

  • wow. First thing i gots to say: this is one of the most impressive clips i've seen of John McLaughlin. Second: I listen to a lot of Lucia's stuff, and not that much of McLaughlin's

So when I say this I mean this as a fan, Paco did not sound nearly as comfortable with his playing on this as I would've expected the master of the flamenco guitar to have been. In his element, flamenco guitar, he's arguably the greatest, and he holds his own in Jazz, but he's no jazz guitarist and it shows. peace

  • mon inspiration Paco....mejor musica!!!

  • trankil avec Paco..........

  • Shockingly brilliance and genius-- why isn't that audience on their feet at the end?

  • @drmrls1 Coz people are not expressive enough to appreciate! Lousy audience!

  • You can all say what u want but at the end of the day... It's night ;)

  • holy shit ..... 5:42 !!!!!! :-O

i've recently seen both de Lucia and Mc Laughlin live (seperately of course), and they were quite an experience!

  • AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Both are amazing, both are very talented, and both are the craziest musicians on the world.

  • hey...do you know when and where this is from??? i have an audio recording of this exact show and i've been trying to figure it out for years. just found your clip.

  • What kind of guitar is John playing???

  • sweet playing

  • All of you are retarded, this whole thing was very well rehearsed. Those two dudes were not competing.

  • Geesh, why can't some agree that both are great? I love Paco's style of play so I'm biased but not stupid to think JM is not ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! take your pick, Paco, JM, Coryell, Bireli and I guess you can throw in Di Meola also...ALL different yet great.

  • @ARJR1971 guys these are world class, they can play anything. i mean anything. its world class musicians ur talking about, not club musicians. thats why they are considered being perfect. any style, any music, anything. so god bless such talent. and honestly cant compare between both. they are just AMAZING.

  • @seadoomaniac1 I agree but isn't that what I just said??

  • @aghoranathi

YOU MUST be pretty arrogant to say that someone elses note choices are wrong. Who are YOU to say what notes others should play?

  • @C9Xamis u r right

  • It is VERY sad that J mC Lock does not listen or hear, he is soo good and makes soo many mistakes. Shuch a sad way to be.

  • @aghoranathi

You better believe that JM plays EXACTLY the notes he want's to. Just because they aren't what you like doesn't make them mistakes.

  • @C9Xamis i disagree, i think he is a pattern man, sorry to poke you but that is heard

  • @aghoranathi

Pattern man? You have got to be joking right.

  • @brianl420 pentatonic is fasst, what did u think, diminished pattern? what ever, he does not even have the feeling of Chet . any way, u r a bor,

  • @aghoranathi Pattern??? This stuff is 80% improv . Nothing can compare to what comes from the heart and mind to the fingers . You people are over analyzing !!!

  • @michaelhazola Sorry for my past drunk comments, I was listening to Ornette Coleman at the time.

  • @aghoranathi bet you never play a pattern? It's part of improv man!

  • @C9Xamis yes you are right but I do like them but I like Garrison and Coltrane more. Sorry for being a dick about the John.

  • Someone wrote: Mc Laughlin made to much mistakes?

I was laughing about this arrogant comment.

Just get the ear and the technique of him and come back and critic his playing.

  • breathtaking; incredible by both musicians.

  • John's tuning in between and a few wrong chosen notes.. Luca is a perfectionist, John made too much mistakes!!

  • is there a recording of this performance anywhere? Its sooo damn good I want to listen to it on my ipod all day haha

  • I'm a big fan of both these guys... But I wasn't really digging this, the solo sections mainly. Yea, their hands are quick as lightning, but there were parts that just kind of drug on. Just my opinion though, these guys are great.

  • Amazing to se two so different guitarist to get together for this piece. Their style of playing complements each other.

  • @prolitz

I agree, their styles are so different but both so great. Nice contrast

  • Both the boys know the fingerboard.

  • @Pan3405 Pan3405 has much to learn.

  • @durgaaa I know the music of McLaughlin since 1973.. Machinegunmusic without expressionpower. The difference between Paco and him is so obvious.. I don't think he is satisfied with his performance!

  • @Pan3405 The thing is, John is very happy to know and play, supporting Paco. John has his own skills. Paco is a Flamenco Guitarist Supreme, and is Spanish. John is not. Paco likes John for his own extraordinary skills. Unless you know these guys personally, I find it hard to judge whether he is "satisfied" or not. And don't forget, all musicians have their off days. Anyone who is enlightened knows that he will be learning for the rest of his life. Not everything is a big macho competition.

  • @durgaaa look the vid at 9:42.. there is no communication between these 2 guys anymore They know they screwed up.. Paco is a super perfectionist (ask Jan Akkerman!) they're not satisfied believe me!

  • @Pan3405 Have to COMPLETELY disagree.

  • @Pan3405 LOL. look at paco. he is laughing how awesome john is. every time they play together, john completely outclasses him. for alternate picking, and command of the instrument unlike any other, john is the man. you shudder with fear when you think of playing alongside his phrasing, his unmatched ease with the most difficult of passages, and his almost supernatural intensity. he is in a trance state when he is on. you sit and watch in awe.

  • @Pan3405

You have much to learn my friend!

  • @brianl420 I like to learn! I also watch the vids of John over and over again.. So i come to the conclusion that..I have to write what I wrote earlier..

  • pan 3405, u are a stupid and crazy,,u play this tune?never,never??????post u video

  • @brianl420 yess hahaa

  • @Pan3405 you're joking, right? if anything, john has a wider range and more variety to his tones and chords...of course, paco's playing is not to be sneezed at

  • @Itsmwaaah I'm sorry but I disagree.. John is sooo predictable..

  • @Pan3405 John mc plays jazz fusion usually, stupid thing have you ever listened to his albums?and he plays it incredibly good like in this vid, look for mahavishnu orchestra first before you write rubbish

  • @jbmadhouse I listened in the early 70's to his albums.. I got really bored!! And I still am. Paco is a different story!

  • @Pan3405

Any one who can play this chick corea stuff in front of an odience (or for that metter play whith Paco), doesn't realy have any one to theach him something he/she doesn't already know.

  • @Pan3405 you sir, are an idiot

  • Comment removed

  • @Pan3405 it was sarcastic.

no one can say similar things about john.

  • Why do people insist on this who is better than who crap when watching guitar clips. It's simply superb.

  • wow the timing on this piece is extremely intricate. amazing

  • what's that on McLaughlin's right index finger? is that a finger?

  • paco is unbelievable. frustratingly talented. of course, so is jm, but it's hard not to notice the ridiculous fingerstyle

  • I was in Spain not long ago, everyone mentions listen to this or that. But mention Paco and EVERYONE says "forget about it". The bench is set far too high. Got to love em both. Pure excellence!

  • Stick to flamenco Paco

  • @armandin2048 Exactly what I was thinking.

  • this is a very special clip...i've listened to a shit load of mclaughlin...and i mean a TON of mclaughlin. I have to say that even though he makes a few mistakes, there are some chops here that are technically inhuman.

  • john is a beast at alternate picking. holy shit.

  • @dannyhenderson9779 Its not alternate picking, its sarod picking. Look up Pebber Brown's vid on Youtube about sarod picking. He'll tell you.

  • @AirHendrix91 its not, its oscillation and translation of the wrist, he uses some finger and thumb when changing strings but thats it. He doesnt even rotate his forearm which is what pebber teaches.

  • unbelievable! kudos!

  • paco say : i learn many things with john mclaughlin because,he come from jazz and me no.And, in jazz there are many improvisation and in the begining with him, i don't unterstand all, because the improvisation at that level ask many listen...so ,with his contact i'm more complet now

  • 3:06 -3:20

  • how the fuck does Paco de Lucia finger pick that fast????

  • when you can see their feet tapping you can understand they are keeping time differently...2min in

  • Wonderful playing...

  • Mind blowing! It was amazing!!

    HeyTheChavez42, shut up, son!!!!!!!!! =X

  • that is rediculous!!

    O_O

  • They are both great , top notch playing

  • blew my mind

  • WONDERFUL!!!

  • Paco is God, McLaughlin is the greatest talent to come out of England, believe.

  • O melhor vídeo que eu já vi até agora!

  • Chills!

  • can some1 please tell me wtf john bites off?

  • a bandage.

  • haha looks like a chunk of skin

  • his fingernail. he tore it on a fret.

  • Frissons assurés ! Bravo !

    Pablo44

  • I like it..Spanish...jazzy..mixed up ..wonderfull listening

  • UHH-MAZE-ING

  • ! which year was? !! ;) thanx for share.

    F

  • Great Music.

  • fucking armchair experts......................

  • paco ere el mehó!!!!!

  • wonderful! pure perfection!

  • Amazing you can still hear shades of Mahavishnu Orchestra under JM's playing today....he just gets better and better

  • Mind blowing..

  • albert - don't you have the same shirt paco is wearing?

  • not sure if its been said but i think i know the answer to the finger/spitting mystery. JM injured his index finger really bad moving a tv in his house. ill bet that had something to do with whatever he does with his finger because it was around this time. ruling vid, thanks

  • I guess Paco DeLucia never improvised until he started playing with McLaughlin and DiMeola. Looks like he got the hang of it, huh?

  • @longtalldexter By Pacos own account he bagan to improvise outside of the flamenco tradition when he began playing with Mclaughlin and Coryell.

  • This is just superb. Two of the greatest Spanish guitarists in the world. Wonderful stuff.

  • paco is spanish,not john.

  • WTF >.> como es eso posible??

  • wonderful

  • Those are Jumbo and Dreadnought classical guitars?

  • Paco must have the strongest right hand fingers known to man

  • you should look into some contrabass players

  • tighttritenight , yes Paco is not classical guitar player , but he plays at Spanish{Arab} classic guitar ....

  • Paco refers to John as the old wise one, what compliment.

  • John Mclaughlin is the best guitarist of all time !! Paco de Lucia is the best at classic guitar .

  • He's not a classical guitar player.

  • dude... I don´t play any more... I'm ashamed take my instrument for one more time in the hand ;-(

  • What a great perfomance - i'm grinning from ear to ear.

McLaughlin owns it though, i think it has to be said. Not taking anything away from Paco, but John takes the piece to new places in his solo.

    Great vid.

  • Easily one of the greatest performances in guitar. What makes it truly great though is the fact that two players, from completely different background and genres, can find harmony through the power of music. That's the reason why down-talking another genre of music or guitar style is pointless. Five stars.

  • Thank you. Great moment of music.

  • wow true flamenco gods!!!!!! bravo bravo!!!

  • dude that wasn`t flamenco, that a standard jazz piece by chick corea, paco is flamenco guitarist that`s why he sounds flamenco but mclaughlin is a true jazz monster ;)

  • no mms el nivel de john mclaughlin es imposible de alcanzar :/ me tomara 60 años o mas -.- impresionante

  • You cant say nothing more than these are 2 great players . If you say one is not great you dont have a clue about music or what it takes to be a guitar player much less a great one.

  • i think this solo by paco in the beginning is one of his cleanest. fastest and best sounding on youtube

  • thank god for paco de lucia

  • McLaughlin is a beast.

  • John and Paco are very incredible guitarist.... I don't understand why some people minimize the work of John Mclaughlin... He's one of the best guitarist on heart. Nothing less then Paco!

  • .......what a nice tribute to paco the grea

    t

  • @ guitarwizard: do activate your brain, dude (in case you have some). 4:34 - 5:33 sounds lyrical to me. Pre-practiced speed licks ? John always offers plenty of truly inspirational playing. Paco has expressed his admiration for John's improvisational skills many times.

  • simply amazing perfformance by paco

  • i love how they play it so effortlessly and with so much stylistics =]

  • They both play with beauty, fantastic.

  • whats happen 5:32 ??

    awesome interplay

  • the only one who mix Speed and bieuty is PACO..is one of the rare music tresure, how we can find someone like him

  • "the only one who mix Speed and bieuty is PACO..is one of the rare music tresure, how we can find someone like him"

Bullshit. You must not have been watching McLaughlin.
